Does AliExpress give you the heebie-jeebies? Me too! But I've seen many fellow watch collectors on RU-vid picking up some pretty good bargains, especially for those of us collecting on a budget...during a pandemic! So, I decided to give it a try. My target was the most extreme case for a test watch; a $20 automatic! Seems impossible, right? Perfect guinea pig.
This is not a TRUE unboxing, as I did take a peek inside to see if the watch was even worthy enough to document the experience. It was! So I shut the box and started filming. Is this $20 automatic watch worth it, though? We'll find out in the video!
The purchasing experience was simple and easy. The waiting was the hardest part. It took my retailer 2 weeks (the AliExpress deadline in this case) before they even shipped it. However, it was a Chinese holiday during the last week of the allowable two week processing period. It then took almost 3 weeks for the package to arrive on the east coast of the United States from China.

I am impressed. It is the cheapest mechanical watch I have bought ever, but surprisingly it is a real self-winding and It is more accurate than other automatics I own that are more expensive. Was a surprise when I unboxed and watch was running. If it continues working this way and glass breaks in the future It will not be crazy to replace glass with a Sapphire Crystal. Why not?

Not bad, huh?! Well, the case is alloy...that’s why I decided not to replace the crystal. I bought a new case and crystal for it, but it was so nice that I felt like the dial was cheap now! Just a big salvage project in limbo! I haven't had time to build the SECOND watch based on this one, but for all intends and purposes this very watch out of service. The dial and case are the only usable parts left. But I feel like this watch would still be jammin a year later had I not broken the crystal!

Still working the same way, even though I have given it a bad life, running, washing dishes, sleeping with it. I changed the back glass that broke.

Ordered two of these for 54 Euro, so 27 Euro each. Unbeatable price for an Automatic. Will try to avoid door knobs.

Haha! Those door knobs will get you every time! My movement died during a transplant. I’ve got a Miyota 8215 that’s going to replace it….but nothing remains of this watch now. Only the dial…I saved it.

Now in 2022, I bought the exact same watch for a similar price and am just as surprised and happy with what I got for my money. Although, the first time it was shipped the watch arrived in bad shape with hands broken off and the movement broken. Looked like it had been in a tumble dryer for a few days! However, the seller refunded my money in full and paid for the dead watch to be returned. I then got another one shipped out (to Australia) and the second one arrived in perfect condition. I have to agree that the strap is a standout feature. I'm quite happy wearing this on the odd occasion and still quite stunned at the value for money.

The Dial in the Listing pictures Looks more Textured . Maybe they changed the dial since you bought it. They have different color options as well. I and a 12 6,9 dial Layout . Nice Looking

Yes, I just checked...it does look much different. It has more of a sand textured look to it. That may help reduce the plastic (because it is) look about it. I was happy with the watch, but after the crystal broke I decided to salvage only the strap, movement and hands. I hope to build the "new" watch in the coming weeks, as I have the case and new dial now!

I have a day date one of these on the way……looked cool and for 23 bux… hard to complain even if you ruin it…..take a look at the Parnspe brand you can get those with nh35a movements for about 60 maybe cheaper during a sale….

If you keep your expectations that it's an inexpensive beater, you're generally ok! Yes, amazing that there are some NH35a autos with decent cases/dials for that price range!

After 11 hours the watch clocked in at +1.6 seconds per day. One of the glass shards stopped the second hand after that, and now it gets hung up at that spot and stops the movement. Update: I have the movement out and running in a holder. It survived just fine! After 24 hours it clocked in at +7.7spd so it appears to be going through a run in stage. I'll update after at least a couple of weeks. I'm considering putting this movement in a new case. So I got a nice nato strap AND a movement!

I recently bought a similar (again Ochstin) in yellow and black with a yellow leather strap with black stitching for approx $40.00 AUD. The watch itself looks and performs pretty good for the budget price but the strap was rubbish. I solved that problem though with a yellow and black silicone strap from (again) Ali Express for all of $4.00 AUD and now have a pretty decent, nice looking very affordable automatic, that actually gets plenty of positive comments.

Well it was lookin fairly hopeful until you forgot you weren't wearing a G shock....🤣 oh well!. That rotor spin would put a miyota 8 series to shame haha. Good luck with any future Ali E purchases to be fair I've not had any problems so far but I always try to use "official" sellers though don't be tempted by getting something for a buck less from one of the many drop shipping sellers on there. 😁

Yes, exactly! I think I would buy it again for that price, though. My AliExpress shopping experience was positive. I'm buying at least a couple more watches on the 11/11 sale day.

I was going to buy this as a replacement for my Hamilton khaki but I have to seeing how cheaply made it is. I think I’ll stay with my Hamilton.

Not keen on the look but hacking and hand winding for $20 is bonkers. Any idea what the movement is?

No, I haven't figured it out yet. I've got the movement out of the case now and have it running again. There was a tiny piece of glass debris that made it's way into the gears. I fished it out with Rodico and we're back in business. I'll let you know if I find out the caliber manufacturer/number. Thanks for watching!

Ok, from what I can tell it's some form of DG2813, which is a copy of a Miyota 8215. I said "some form" because there are numerous Chinese manufacturers of xx2813. The "real" DG2813 movement is made by Dixmont Guangzhou and is about $50. So, I can't imagine this watch has that movement. Mine must be a Chinese copy of a Chinese copy! After 24 hours back online, it came in at +7.7spd, for a new average of +5.8spd. I might try to find a new case to set it in...

@@dnk4533 Well, read my comment ahead of yours. That’s the best I can tell, based on just visual inspection and comparisons. But again, I can’t imagine it’s a REAL DG2813 based on cost/value.

@@WatchWitt yeah ochstin use 2813 model but not the high-quality from Dixmont or Nanning , ithink it come from Beijing manufacturer. I Got one and the accuracy is good then my Tuna 😂😂, first time try accuracy test the tuna comes +20 sec what the heck

Got the same watch with nubuck strap for 3 years. Feels good after all this time. No problems with it at all 👍. Try for the next time the brand Paulareis. Same price range. Better glass and automatic too 👍

Great to hear! I've been attracted to a nice orange watch from Paulareis before, but the logo was a little over the top for me, and I was reluctant due to the extremely low price. I'll have to re-explore them...thanks!

Just checked them out...great value! Probably the same or similar Chinese movements, but most of their watches use a stainless steel case instead of alloy, like this one. Thanks for sharing!

I thought about it, but the case is of lower quality, so just decided to get a nice case WITH domed sapphire crystal for $36! Which turned in to, “Well, I might as well improve the dial!”

Yup. You can get much better alloy cases than this one. I would recommend a black colored case if choosing alloy. This one is poorly done.

It's an alloy case (ewwwwwh!), I can't remember if the crown was plastic. I feel like it was SS, but just can't remember. Crystal was mineral glass.

No, it was an accident. The watch hit a doorknob. I loved this little $20 watch. I wouldn’t deliberately destroy a watch...I feel the same way you do.

If you have $20 and an open mind, yes. If you are expecting quality performance out of this automatic, no. There are plenty of better automatic watches in the $50 to $80 range.

It depends on the style you prefer, but I would suggest a Vostok Komandirskie or Amphibian, Cadisen 1032 or Starking AM0184. Those are a few that come to mind.
