ADDITIONAL REVIEW NOTES:
Context: I live in what some might consider a noisy area… I live next to a fire station, some guy who plays saxophone at 2AM on weekends, a big intersection with angry philadelphia drivers, and train tracks which host both the SEPTA, and a big ass freight train which goes by at ~2AM. I am a heavy sleeper, but that is no match for the 90 decibels I measured from the freight train horn. The windows are thin and this building construction sucks. For reference, a construction site is normally 100 decibels
Some battery drain
Sleep score average for days prior to test
Does it work without a phone connected? Local storage?
Can you load your own sound files?
How long is the battery? Will it be that long in a few years?
Wireless charging on the case?
Do ears get hot and sweaty
What about side sleepers?

I think the majority of people wouldn't buy this product. Why wouldn't anyone just buy comfortable headphones they like, and fall asleep to whatever music they want?

@@douglepong I definitely see where you’re coming from but I think this product is something you need to try to actually understand it. I would like to think that a big majority of their buyers are people with spouses that snore. My mom has always complained about how loud and much my dad snored. She always used earplugs but they never really worked. We got these for her birthday one year and believe it or not it actually changed the way she slept. She was able to sleep peacefully without always hearing snoring. After we got her those she never complained about my dad again. Definitely not the same as a pair of headphones lol. These don’t fall out for her and the noise cancellation is amazing. Would recommend for people that genuinely have a good use for it.

@@hatimworld2249 I don't think you get the purpose of these. You don't want to listen to music while sleeping, that disrupts your sleep. You want something that drowns out all the noises that keep you awake and that's what they do. If you don't have trouble sleeping, then stay away, they're clearly not meant for you. Hi Mike, I really appreciate your review and agree with everything you have said. I got this product for my wife, who is a very light sleeper. She got used to the earbuds very quickly as she already has Bose QC earbuds which have identical silicone eartips. It drastically improved her sleep quality and volume around 20-25% is more than enough to mask common noises like the floor creaking or a snowplower passing by. And yes it does fall out every now and then but overall, I think it is a great product for those who are also light sleepers. She is so happy with it and uses the earbuds every night. I agree that it is a pricey product, but Bose had to overcome multiple engineering challenges. In the tiny earbud that has to be flush against the ear canal, they had to fit speaker, wireless connection, internal memory (soundtracks are stored inside the earbuds to improve battery life), and battery that has to last all night. Also, significant noise dampening had to be used so touching the exterior of the earbud does not transmit a lot of noise into the ear (one of the major complaints on their first version).

They are amazing. Have both gens. Gen 1 was a fail with charging issues. Tip for everyone. Just before putting them in your ears, apply a small bit of silicon (from a silicon earplug) on the underside towards the back end and squash it down, moulding around that area. Just needs to be a small amount. This prevents any discomfort when sleeping on your side completely. I was like some others who woke up with a sore ear from the pressure on the ear ridge. Might also add that these are extremely effective and you don’t need to turn them up very much at all. Noise does not loop and sounds are high quality.

I have used these since version 1, remake of version 1, and now version 3. They do work for me and I have a lot of problems sleeping, which is not related to noise. I just have trouble sleeping. This latest version is smaller and more comfortable. But I have smaller ears and am a side sleeper, so I do feel them. It’s just a matter of getting used to them, and using a pillow with a depression to rest my ears. Thank you for your good review.

@@sonogiaponeze1761 I have used all versions: 1 and 2, and refurbished 2. I was okay with 1, but Bose wanted me to trade it for 2. And then 2 stopped working, so they sent me refurbished 2. The main problem is the battery- Bose is worried that the older batteries may heat up in the ear. Mine never has, and Bose has never charged me for replacements because I contact them before my warranty runs out. If you cannot sleep, try them. I don’t think they will do version 3; and they are not real comfortable to wear at night, but you do get used to them.

I usually sleep with a white noise machine going but my wife can’t stand them. This isn’t usually a problem because we sleep in separate bedrooms because of snoring, different schedules, etc.) but we were going on a two week trip to Europe where separate bedrooms were too expensive. So, I bought the first generation Bose Sleepbuds about 1.5 years ago. They worked perfectly. I got the white noise and she got quiet. Worth every penny. Bose stopped making the first generation because of battery life issues but I was fortunate and never had a battery problem. The only drawback I found was that the ear buds would rub against the pillow and would produce a scratchy sound. Bose put a smooth surface on the back of the second generation earbuds that supposedly solves this problem.

It is my understanding that using a masking sound similar to the tinnitus generated by your brain is the way to go. Over time it is supposed to help train your brain that you are getting sound in that spectrum and it can encourage your brain to cool it on the sounds it generates. I bought a phone app that had sleeping sounds but they were all crap like rain noise, meadow sounds, birds, etc. anything other than white noise or tunable tinnitus sounds are going to be useless for those who suffer from tinnitus.

Or if I could find the right white noise for me in the app. But at 250+ tax, and it doesn't play any other audio other than what's on the bose app. Makes it a hard sell for me. I've just got my QuietOn 3 (I ordered 2 sets in the kickstarger) and the noise cancelling doesn't work. The feature of placing the case with the magnets next to the buds and detach does not result in any "snap" to check that they are working and it doesn't do as the leaflet says - no tone is produced to confirm the ANC is working and ive tried all of the foam sizes. This device is exclusively using the foam expanding to fill the ear canal to block noise and its not utilising ANC. I have the QO2 and those were too bulky but had a switch to turn on ANC and there was a clear on demand difference. QO3 is clearly slimmer but both sets aren't as described in the leaflet and don't have ANC. This "magnet" and "snap" is bogus. Really quite infuriating to have a supposedly upgraded device(s) which is not operating as described and are solely utilising foam expansion

I sleep much deeper while using them, I too live 50 yards away from rail tracks, I now cant sleep without them. well worth the over bloated price, but I know that money was spent on Research and developing. I'm a side sleeper and most nights they don't fall out, I to should try the larger size in the one ear. Good review.

Really wanted to try these but they've been discontinued. Then I had a thought -- why not use regular noise cancelling earbuds? They'll stick out a bit but couldn't you wrap a headband around your head to keep the buds from falling out?

On Android the volume buttons DO change the soundlevel for the buds. I have weared them every night for 2 years now and never had them fall out. You are using the wrong tips IMHO or the wrong cushion as you found out. The naturescapes do not mask external sounds as much as the noisemasking sounds as they are designed to do so and are using specific soundfrequenties. You should set them to the soundlevel where they block out the sound. It will take some nights but you will adjust to the sound and sleep even better. Don't stop using them for 4 to 5 nights as it will take some people longer than they think to get used to them being in your ears. I missed them (SB1) when they were returned with the battery problems and don't want to miss them for a single night. Never slept better and I don't live I a noisy area but they also mask tinititis 'sounds' and the snoring of my significant other.

I see everyone buying these is playing those sleep sounds for sleeping. I am however not interested in sounds. I only want to cancel external noises. Can you put it into noice cancellation mode without sound? And how will that perform?

Have them aswell, my experience these buds makes me not go all the way in REM sleep, which results that i can wake up fresh and early. When i dont use these i fall in sleep very deep and wake up all F’d up haha. So if i know that i have to wake up early i put these in For me they work the opposite of what they should do but im fine with that.

Make sure to sanitize them every night though. Otherwise you might have bacterial infection and major earaches in the future. Because ceiling off your ear canal for 8 hours of sleep can help the growth of bacteria in the ear canal. I've have had this experience. Since on average I have earbuds in my ears at least 4 hours a day.

If you could play your own audio they'd be perfect. I like to listen to asmr or creepypastas to go to sleep, but my wired sleep earbuds are a bit of a hassle to deal with cause I do move around a lot. My regular buds are too big for side sleeping comfortably, and my headphones aren't great either. These were almost my perfect solution.
@zaxio5336

Yeah, apparently listening to anything other ambient noise is actually bad for actual sleep. It may be helpful to fall asleep, but as for the actual sleep phases, it’s terrible.
