Fallout 76 had a VERY rocky launch, and like a lot of people I had seen all the negative press the game was getting and all the bugs and issues that were constantly being highlighted. Six years later, I've finally decided it was time to bite the bullet and play Fallout 76 for myself so I could form an informed opinion based on experience rather than internet rhetoric.

I personally don't have any issue with the building and I think it's one of the best building systems that any game has. No it isn't perfect, nor is it for everyone but I personally enjoy it. The leveling system IS weird at first, I do agree. Although, I did come around to it once I figured it out. I like it because it allows for a lot of diversity.

If you enjoy building things, I gotta recommend Enshrouded. The building in it is fantastic. Though I'd say give it some time to cook and let the devs work out some of the other aspects. But it has an enjoyable building mechanics, and I feel it is implemented far better than 76. And I could definitely see the potential for more diverse builds with the way the leveling works. Definitely something Bethesda has been sorely missing as of late.

5:18 the only reason I'm okay (not thrilled by but ok) with this feature 1) as a game mechanic it is here because 76 is trying to be a new type of group multiplayer game which I respect the need for having players have the right stuff 2) from a lore stand point the largest amounts of pre-war ammo would be in more abundance only 25 years after the war verses 200 years after the war so tripping over the needed ammo is less offensive to me in 76 specifically but it has some major draw backs. Hi I've been playing 76 since it first released

That was my biggest complaint about these RPGs, the dialogue. The misunderstanding of what you were saying based on what you clicked on. It was never what you thought it was. I also hated the card part. Bummed me out and I quit 76.

Vats and building in fallout 76 blows, that's for sure. Idk I quickly went back to fallout 4 with mods, 0 point for me in playing 76. After years there are so many mods, I can transform 4 to what ever I want to and it never felt better. I absolute hate 76 and Starfield - but 76 is the biggest crime they ever let lose.

Idk going from fallout 4 to 76 at launch was abysmal didn’t play after level 10 now though just started replaying and I’m enjoying it a lot, the building tho on pc you can press q and that shows you everything you have not the locked stuff and the door frame was the same as fallout 4 so if you built in that you should’ve just guessed right away but I see there’s other walls with actual door frames so I get the confusion there.
@M1cromanag3r
@M1cromanag3r 21 день назад
I tinkered around with the building in the most minimal if aspects in 4, but even then, I remember the building mechanics not being super straightforward. I'm a long fan of survival crafting games, so I'm no stranger to building in games. Just felt clunky in fallout 4 (But I'll say unmodded ARK was much worse, lol) I'm glad people are out here enjoying things, though, and not letting others tell them what is and isn't good. We all like what we like. I just enjoy sharing my thoughts, and in the case of this video, I just feel better knowing for sure about where I stand on the game, instead of just assuming.

Great video, I love the way u articulated your views and mostly agree with u. I read some of the responses as well just to read the room- your fanbase seems pretty cool too. I see your issues with this and fallout 4 as one word - Bethesda. 76 is just fallout 4, rushed/better dialog tree/predatory in nature/mixed up non broken perk system - update for no reason. They were trying to create their own GTA5 online and it actually morphed into it's own thing. It's a pretty cool community if u hangout for a few. However, getting back to Bethesda, they are, what they are. I didn't really like Fallout 4 as a Fallout game, but i loved the way it tried. I too loved the legendary Fallout 1 and 2. The grind and hold it had, which translated to 3 and New Vegas, differently and diverse. When 4 came, it was difficult for me to accept it for what it was. When I did, i loved it. We actually are kindred spirit, for i too shook my fist to the clouds; but it rained on me 😮. If u are willing to die on that hill, i will respect your choice good sir, but i say that our expectations are our premeditated disappointments. Nice work though and I hope to catch one of your live streams.

9:46 yea most things are locked by default in the start of the game, most of it you have to unlock by finding schematics and or completing a quest, and Vats needs a perk card to target specific points on an enemy. I personally like the leveling system in 76 because of how I can completely change my character build on a moments notice. but if it wasn't a online game I don't think I would like the level system. as far as 76 goes it only gets better with friends

Just stumbled across this video, and while i agree with some of the things youve said, 'mainly the positives' i disagree with others, the fast travel costing caps is to give players that 'i dont wanna spend caps to travel, gives players a choice to do so, if the fast travel was just free then people would just fast travel anywhere and ecerywhere and there would be no sense of exploration, which is the best part of Fallout imo. Theres needs to be some kind of detremantal negative to fast travelling and the charge is fine. Also, the base building is great! One of the best im my opinion. Playing the game for the first time and almost instantly expecting all of the building plans available is just silly. Almost every open world mmo/rpg with base building doesnt give you that, especially not entirely open world ones. This game has come a looong way since launch, and i agree, the lack of npcs and dialogue made the game feel empty, but from what they did, in the time they did, fair play Bethesda. Also, the in game 'Atom' purchases, arnt mandatory, if you want to buy it, buy it, if you dont, then dont, no one is forcing you to, Again, every game has microtransactions, lets not make out this is a new thing. To finish, and i hope you take what i said lightly and that i dont mean any hate towards you and your opinion, as i come from the point of view that, any critisism, is good critisism. Give it a good chance, this game is incredibley fun, and if you enter the world of 76 with an open mind, i believe thats what youll have. Sorry for the long reply, just a few things i wanted to point out and say my piece. Peace.✌️

I'd like to say I appreciate your candor and the fact that you understand that opinions are just that. I will never state my opinion and an objective truth. (or I try damn hard not to imply as such) but I do know my own taste and even after just under 5 hours of play time I could tell this was generally more of the same from Bethesda. I played juat enough to see key features and how they are implemented. As far as the fast travel, I can definitely see where youre coming from, but I guess at the same I have had experince playing open world games and online games (albeit most often solo) and fast travel was always meant to backtrack faster to places previously discovered and save time. In multi-player games in the past, and to prevent abuse, it was usually attached to a timer/cooldown, but it wasn't always behind an in-game currency. And to say microtransactions are in every game is objectively incorrect. I could probably find 30 games from the last 2 years that don't, and t9 see fellow gamers just resigning to acceptance about a practice that was never needed in the industry for many years beforehand and is now IMO a symptom of a much bigger issue in the gaming industry. At the end of the day, though, I will always accept that people will continue to like things that I do not and vice versa, and while some people refuse to understand that when I'm just stating an opinion, I'm doing just that, nd not making an attack on them for the things they enjoy. I can tell that you are a rather understanding person in this regard and wish to thank you for not getting defensive or angry and instead choose to engage in a civil discussion. It's something that has become far too rare these days. And it definitely happens far too often whenever I state a dissenting opinion on bethesda games. Thanks for being decent.
@Texturising
@Texturising 24 дня назад
@@M1cromanag3r ofcourse, its easy to hide behind a keyboard and talk trash to people, although i have a different opinion, i value yours. But, again with the microtransactions, to me unless its a pay to win item, then yes, i agree the in game purchases are predatory and dont belong in any video game period. But, things like building plans and skins where they add no benefit other than to look cool, i see no problem with, and again at the end of the day, they are optional, you can earn loads if atoms in the challenges tab which you xsn spend wherever and on whatever you like, and there are 1000's to earn. The fast travelling stuff is subjective. Iv explored the whole map more times than i can remember and sometimes whizzing around from place to place is easier and you guessed it 'faster'. Time on this earth is precious and limited for some. So if fast travelling isnt your style, then best reunforce those shoes i guess lol. On a whole, i appreciate your approach to my response to the video, it could have been way easier to deny/ignore what i said, but you didnt. I hope you give it another try, and play it for what it is, but if not, then i can understand and respect that decision. All the best my guy!

The building was great and I really liked the Vats implementation. Felt a little more realistic to what it would be IRL. The leveling is the way it is to give an extra reason to grind, which is stupid. Unless you look up a build and follow it as you level, you will be screwed as you hit 50 and realize you have to now grind another 50 levels to make the meta builds.

But what I really like about your video and opinion, you actually did take the time to play it. Thankfully without having to pay money for it thanks to Gamepass. People really should try it for themselves and see if the first ... let's say 8-12 hours have fun. It is a big game and world so the first few hours might be needed to learn a bit more about the game. Unless you played Fallout 4, then it should be evident within the first 3 hours or less since the games are so similar in how things work.
@M1cromanag3r
@M1cromanag3r 25 дней назад
Yeah, i played a ton of 4. Once I started to feel the similarities, I didn't feel I needed another 5 hours to realize it wasn't for me. It honestly took me years of playing around with Skyrim and Fallout 4 both to slowly realize that it wasn't the same for me as previous titles. They aren't objectively bad. The devs just have taken the games in a different direction and, as such, moved away from things a lot of older fans enjoyed. But thank you for being respectful and seeing what I was doing here. It was less "I'm gonna make a video and crap on 76" and more of a "I'm gonna try to challenge myself to try things and form my own opinion" We can agree to disagree and still be civil, and your comment proves that. Even Bethesda acknowledged, "voiced protagonist" and "always exactly 4 dialog-options" were no good ideas. @thedarklordsknigh there are some things that must be left as mystery for sure. Hidden treasures, optional bosses to find, content tucked away to reward curiosity and fuel the urge to explore and discover. But needing a game guide to cover the basic features of a game implies bad game design. A developer should want their game to be intuitive on the basic level. Whether through a straight-up tutorial, tool tip pop ups, or a guided beginner area to establish mechanics disguised as part of the game. One of my all-time favorite games (Graveyardkeeper) does a pass poor job of explaining how and where to gain the blue experience points. I love the game but will still criticize this flaw. Just because you enjoy a game doesn't make it immune to even your own criticisms. If we just sat back and willingly ate up everything devs through at us without contention, we'd end up with pure slop because they know we'll buy it regardless.

I really dislike microtransactions in general and feel they are a big part of the failings of AAA studios. I can definitely see why folks are accustomed to these practices when they have spent more time with modern multi-player games. It's just very jarring from my standpoint as an older solo gamer, where everything in the game has always been accessible through in-game means and not a weird secondary currency. Personally, I think base building in FO4 was born out of laziness by the developers. How many fully realized and self sustaining settlements are in FO3? Big Town, Little Lamplight, Megaton, Underworld, Rivet City, Tenpenny, Paradise Falls, etc. Compare that to the list of fully realized and self sustaining settlements are in FO4. Diamond City, Bunker Hill, maybe Covenant? Why bother putting effort into creating settlements when they could just have the players do it all for them? Give the player some shitty plots around the map, a handful of assets, an NPC that sends you off to 'help them out' as part of a boring and repetitive series of radiant quests, and the player will do all the work! There's no need to develop interesting settlements when we can dupe the player into doing by disguising it as a gameplay mechanic! Then they realized that they could make money by shoehorning it into 76 and marketing additional assets as micro-transaction.
@M1cromanag3r
@M1cromanag3r 26 дней назад
This! I never looked at it from that angle, but this makes a LOT of sense. I played F4 enough to now realize there really weren't that many established settlements. Far less than F3 from what I can remember. The constant soulless and unimaginative fetch quests are pointless and rather irritating filler, something Bethesda seems insistent on cotinuing. If they do, release after release will see more and more fans leaving as a result. Honestly, I don't know how people continue to forgive them and support every title they release. They should just quit the dev side of gaming and stick to publishing and hand ES and fallout to far more capable studios IMO
@Jess_Tyr
@Jess_Tyr 26 дней назад
I agree. Unfortunately I don't think we'll ever get to see games from Bethesda of the caliber of ES3 or FO3 again. They'll only continue to dumb down mechanics, whittle away RPG elements, and add more boring and repetitive radiant quests to pad out play time. I understand them wanting their games to appeal to a broader audience, but they're sacrificing the souls of beloved franchises to do so. I doubt they'll ever want to sell the rights of ES or FO to another company, but giving other developers (Obsidian) the opportunity to create new installments is something they should seriously consider.

I have to disagree with the assessment that the outpost building system in FO4 was a 'lazy mode' for the development. It took a great deal of development to make it (almost) work well. It also provided an avenue for the player to take charge of the future of that wasteland by setting up and managing the workshops... and thus contributing to the rebuilding of civilization. Or, not building them up and contributing little to the world (or just being a wandering mur-hobo). The radiant quests... yeah, I don't have much to say about the endless Preston Garvey 'a settlement needs your help' quests. After a time, time, there isn't much to do that is new and engaging, or even challenging as the player is eventually far more powerful than anything in the game. Thus, the modding scene to 'fix' the game. And some mods do indeed fix base game issues, just to be clear. Bethesda has been trying to implement micro-transactions since Oblivion. ESO and later F76 provided an avenue for it. I am not a fan of it in a multiplayer game, and feel it is a shame that it has invaded the single player field, too.

I live this game, im pissed i listened to yourube. Im sure its improved but from talking to the amazing community thats been there for tears its pretty clear that the core of what it is has ALWAYS been there. Im never listening to negative algorthm monkeys again. I liked cyberpunk on release too. The gameplay and bugs improved but it was always thT brilliant game from release.

This is exactly why I played the game and made the video. I've never listened to the, as you put them, "negative algorithm monkeys", but instead based my initial assumptions on live game play. I watched CohhCarnage live day 1 for a few hours to see what the game was all about, and from what I saw, I didn't really dig. But I gave it a chance to form a more informed opinion. This is Something I feel everyone should do with any media. Theere are numerous times I didn't watch a show because I was TOLD it was bad only to watch it later in life and enjoy it. That being said, keep enjoying what you enjoy!

Fallout 76 was good for a new experience at launch but was HORRENDOUS at Launch. From what i see now (im not giving sony a extra penny outa me) its aged very well (from launch not so much as fallout game)

Ok that one was funny and so incredibly ironic. So just popping out and into existence is not emersion breaking but paying a fee to travel which we do in RL is?
