Gran Turismo 4 was probably one of the most exciting games I ever played as a kid. Found it by playing at my friend's house and I never forgot how fun it was driving in the ford gt
Gt4 by default has some pretty stiff racing suspension, making low-speed weight-transfer difficult. If you bring the springs down 15% or so and the dampers down 50% or so, raising the ride height 5-10mm, it will help moderately. Even with good suspension tuning, wheelspin under 40mph isn't very great, but it's still an enjoyable experience.
Back in the day I was lucky enough to be able to use my G25 connected to the console to play GT4 and have always felt the FFB was fairly incredible given the majority of players would never experience it. You could really feel the weight transfers and grip levels.
I remember playing Nascar '99 on the N64, then GT3 A-Spec loving that game. But GT4 blew my mind when it came out, it started and defined my love for sim racing
GT3 was the first GT game I ever played, but GT4 was the first one I owned. 14 year old me sat on my parents concrete basement floor way too many hours with that game.
I originally bought a Logitech G25 just for gt4. I had that G25 for about 6 to 8 years before I donated it to my brother. GT4 was awesome with a wheel.
My dad had this game on PS2, I was probably like 4 playing it, not on release though, I was 1 when it came out, but this game definitely started my love of racing from young
I actually met one of your reps from Abruzzi yesterday at Vroom in Brighton. The guy was brilliant and so knowledgeable with what to get and all that. Im super glad you told me about Abruzzi from your videos. Thank you for that :)
I'm so glad you finally got to try this, with a wheel GT4 is like a whole new experience. The cars all rotate and feel incredible even though it's almost 20 years old!
Hey Jimmy, the issue you are having with the brake peddal is you didnt bind it the way it should be, try pushing the pedal at 100% then hitting the bind button, then releasing the pedal, it should say full axis, instead of axis only, that fixed it for me.
@@dixalicous While you have the game open with a car on a track, try to switch from Axis+ to Fullaxis, one of them has to work, i dont remember which ended up working for me but i had to change them with my game open for it to get corrected, hope it helps
I just bought an open box R3 bundle for $247 shipped on Friday after being on a G29 for the last ~8 years. The Spec II streams definitely had some influence on that decision lol. Racing is probably only 30% of the overall gaming I do so I can't really justify spending much more than that on more serious hardware but I'm really looking forward to getting everything switched over.
This was an intro to racing when I was like 6 or 7 years old through my uncle. I recently learned about emulators and played through gt4 (to the championship) which was something I never was able to do before my uncle got rid of his ps2 way back when. It was so so much fun. When spec II dropped I had to figure it out and I’ve been loving doing another play through so far. Gt4 is one of the few games I’ve been able to enjoy time and time again and not just play them once and move on. It’s so good.
I have flashbacks of when the game starts up with the operatic version of the GT theme tune, followed immediately by Kasabian assaulting the earlobes - fantastic! And did I tell you that I still have the GT4 official guide - all 290 pages of it?
It took me a minute to get my wheel set up with gt4 on pcsx2, but I found having the steering, gas and brake inputs set to the analog sticks worked best for me as opposed to the standard inputs like the triggers or face buttons. That way, when I turned the wheel or used the gas/brake, it was registered as analog instead of digital input on the controller to wheel emulation.
Bimmer falling in love. :D This was fantastic to see. I never tried it, but I've been told time and time again that the old GT games were oddly great to play with a wheel, that the cars felt way better than you'd think they should. "The Real Driving Simulator" and all. I guess there's some merit to that, this looked legit. :D
When I first saw you streaming this on gamepad, I assumed it was because the mod didn't support FFB wheels or something. Now that I know it has both, I definitely need to give this a shot for the first time.
See? Much better isn't it? ^^ I felt the same, when i used my DD PRo playing Spec II. Man! It was a great game then and it is even better today. Good Stuff!
Not had a direct drive wheel but I did play through much of GT4 with my old Thrustmaster T150 wheel and I would be a sweaty boi after doing some of those endurance races lol.
I bought a xbox 360 years ago to use my momo racing logitech wheel on forza, only to find it wasn't supported, I gave the xbox away out of frustration, first and last time I purchased a microsoft console, went back to PS and PC, no problems
I remember playing GT4 with a wheel way back on the original hardware. It was definitely better, honestly I think it's entirely different physics. I believe this mod uses updated physics for the multiplayer mode though, which may be even better?
There is no multiplayer here (the online aspect is not working in the Spec II mod to avoid mismatching issues). Physics is not changed, but some cars have tweaked/fixed stats. There is a little difference between PAL and NTSC versions physics, though. This is NTSC.
@bduddy55555 I'm not aware that there was a different physics planned for the online (but I've never tried it). But I don't think the single player uses it anyway, if that's the case.
Honestly this lowkey feels like Forza Motorsport 7-ish on wheel and I think the only reason that Jimmer says he likes it is because it's GT4. If this was Forza he'd fucking torch it like there was no tomorrow lol It's better than it has any right to be given the source material don't get me wrong, but yea.
I wonder how he set this up. I tried setting up my fanatec dd with gt4 and it sucked, it only worked sometimes and it didnt really translate the centering at all so it was very floaty
enjoying the game quite a bit. wish there was something modern with the same campaign / career style, no paid DLC sh|t. Anyone found any decent visual mods or UI overlay resolution improvements? Or higher fps without running the ps2 engine at 200% also??😅 AFMF2 works pretty well for fake 120fps
Both! They're super cheap these days. If you have the triplescreen rig for it, get 3 PS3s and 3 copies of each game. It is a technological marvel to play 5 and 6 on triples. Been considering getting rid of my ultrawide and going back to triples specifically for those games as I still have 3x copies of both from back in the day.
I could never get into the GT franchise. The physics always never felt right. And 9 times out of 10 to win races, you can just ride the walls since they never slowed you down. And don't get me started on ramming lol
