In this writing vlog I tried Margaret Atwood's flexible writing routine! This was one of my favorite writing vlogs I've ever done and am excited for you to see it!!
This vlog includes my initial experiments with Margaret Atwood's writing routine, writing in non-ideal circumstances, and a very fun ending to the day!
All while working on figuring out a new POV character for my next series!
What do you think of this writing vlog? Do you like these more storytelling focused videos? What do you think of Margaret Atwood's writing routine? Let me know down below and I'll get back to you 🙂

@Billy Alarie That's a very broad topic, what specifically are you asking about?

I can definitely attest to the usefulness of writing in odd or new places, it seems to help shift perspectives in my mind when I get stuck on something. I drive truck for a living all across North America, so most of my writing is done on my phone in rest areas and truck stops at odd hours of the night, because I need to get out as much as possible as quickly as possible lol Need world building ideas for landscape? Culture? Histories? Drive around and try to notice what you would normally tune out while you're on the way to the grocery store. Take unfamiliar roads, pull over and look at stuff when something catches your eye. If you already have a character in mind, consider how they would react to that weird art piece the city just put in by the rec center. Character ideas? Just people watch for a while, it doesn't get any more authentic than seeing real people interact with one another. Some mannerism or clothing choice or snippet of conversation can spark so much, if you're keeping yourself receptive to such things.

Definitely, observation is so useful! Also your writing routine sounds interesting, maybe I'll have to do a road trip writing challenge one day!! As writers I feel we're probably more prone to getting wrapped up in our own thoughts than most, so this is a good reminder to look around and pay attention to your surroundings. There's stuff to learn there!

Love your video. I find writing on paper gives me better idea than typing.

Yea, for some reason it flowed quickly on paper, but it might have just been that I was excited about it

@@john_writing_In a section of one of your videos you spoke about creating a wiki where you stored all the information you gleaned from interviewing a character you created.

Interesting! I like seeing trying different routines. Being self employed means finding your own pace that works, trying other things to find something that works better is an important part of that. The book "Daily Rituals: How Artists Work" by Mason Currey is really good. It shows the diversity of work habits and ideas for them.

Happy to hear you found it interesting! Also, Alonzo, a book as your profile image fits very well! You know a book for every purpose :)

Another great video! Just realized I hadn't subscribed yet, so I made sure to change that. I like seeing the different ideas and routines from famous authors. My favorite part of these videos though might be your thumbnails where you replicate their looks haha.

Thanks for watching and subbing!! I'm happy you enjoy these types of videos, because I find them fun to make :) As far as the thumbnails, I'm a little obsessive about getting the facial expression, posture, and lighting all perfect 😂
