I tried Starlink internet in remote Scotland. I’ve tried many different vanlife internet solutions over the years but nothing has been perfect. Ever since Starlink satellite internet launched, I’ve wanted to try it and since I will be off-grid and travelling in remote Scotland, I deliberated a lot but finally decided to get Starlink.
Starlink internet doesn’t rely on a mobile network or wifi like many other internet solutions. Elon Musk is behind Space X and Starlink and they launch satellites into space, and you connect to the satellites in order to get internet.
In this video, I share with you the Starlink set up, the speed tests and my Starlink review after having used it in rural Scotland, UK for the last few weeks.

WHO AM I?
If we haven't met before... Hi, I'm Ruth 👋 and I recently bought a campervan to travel my home country of Scotland after living overseas for 12 years. I’ve hardly seen anything or been anywhere in Scotland and now is the time to change that!

I have Starlink like yours on an off grid house at 8000 feet elevation in Golorado. The dish on the roof of my house just withstood 80 mph winds for two days and nights. The Starlink worked perfectly.
@trevr10
Starlink is becoming popular on boats and ships too. The monthly cost on their 5Tb package is $5,000 per month then $2 per gb over. It sounds a lot but considering 5Tb on VSAT is around $85,000 - $249 per 3gb, you can see why it's becoming popular on yachts. There is a cheaper Starlink maritime package which is $250 for 50gb. So all in all your monthly Starlink cost isn't too bad. Not to mention Starlink Maritime equipment is $2,500 but VSAT equipment is around $35,000.

£85 per month is a bargain for the flexibility and speed. Have it at home or bring it in your van, your onto a winner. Van dwellers and travellers have dozens of semi permanent soloutions for van use. In remote areas while traveling this really is a game changer.
@wilf18
Thanks Ruth. Will be getting one
@Lpreilly72
For a fraction of the price I got a Verizon hotspot. I can use it when I’m driving,so I can listen to podcasts, there’s no need to set up an antenna, and the reception is great. Buying starlink is like buying a Tesla. A lot of money for very little.
@jaymata1218
Those are wild speeds.
@maiguozeinmsl5824
That is so cool
@hager1974
Well done you are amazing

Is there no limit to your talents x
@JimAllen-Persona
You know, it sounds expensive but my cable company/ISP is charging me $139/mo for 300 down/35 up. If I wasn’t part of a package it would be $189/mo. They have a monopoly in my area. If prices go down, I’ll seriously consider it.
@corrzyLAD
Very sick video, I loved how informative it was. Such a cool setup driving around lovely Scotland with high speed internet!
@egeegee7146
Having the most awful trouble in Italy with internet. The normal function is fine to stream a movie and general desk duties but having had trouble with the supplier and a breakdown and now being two weeks without internet I am considering Starling for the house. Thanks for sharing your experience. It is now a definite
@ericlee3421
That was excellent, unusually you actually demonstrated the set up / down/upload speeds. Reading the comments you have drummed up some interest in Starlink maybe you should receive some sponsorship. Good luck with the channel. 👍

I had significant problems when I was living in rural Highlands. Did not had star link then. Very useful video. Thanks.
@RaymondCalloway
Your downland speeds are amazing and comparable with internet service one gets here in the States. I lived briefly in Thurso back in 2008, in the days of 3G cellphone service and I didn't get speeds any where near your numbers today. My sister lives in southeast Alaska and Starlink is very popular where she is. It's a Godsend to those who live outside of the larger towns. Good luck with your travels and be safe.
@belchnasty
Excellent video! Thanks for sharing all this info. I'm interested in getting one for our caravan.

Ruth, your channel found its way to my RU-vid recommended list, so as I enjoy van/DIY/tech/outdoor stuff, decided to take a look - and am so glad I did. I have this evening binge-watched many of your episodes, and will continue to do so over the coming days. Love your approach, your frankness and honesty, and your fabulous desire to learn and just get on with what needs doing. One thing I might add perhaps as thought for the future... maybe consider getting an amateur radio license and use a small handheld or even a car installed amateur radio (or both). Appreciate this might be for another time, but might be worth considering as there's many of us amateur radio users about. Keep up the great work. John (GW3JVB)
@gosomewherenew
Thats a decent download speed. I agree with you saying its necessary for work. Definitely worth its weight in gold 😊
@tachsh266
I was wondering how you are doing since you and shots separate traveling. I’m glad you are doing great!! Keep traveling and sharing your journey with us❤
