When you push stuff off the cutting board, try to use the not sharp side of the knife to keep the blade sharper longer

To avoid teary eyes when cutting onions: Fill a bowl with water and cut onions with a normal knife without a chopping board such that chopped onions fall into the water bowl. You won't have teary eyes that way..

I will say knife skills is one thing I'm very glad I learned at an early age (did culinary arts in high school). The claw technique has always slowed me down a bit, but it definitely is safer and allows you to be more precise. Glad you took the time to learn the skill! Also don't forget to hone your blade before you use it (using one of those honing rods) and sharpen it as soon as it starts to feel dull, which I know is a skill you already learned!

I highly recommend checking out skillsyouneed.com. It's a refreshingly objective, incredibly in-depth, & surprisingly expansive UK-based site where you can learn any life skill you'd like. And what skills are better to learn first than life skills (or what I like to think of as the skills we should already know)? The info is divided into 8 broad sections: All the info is totally free. I love the honesty & transparency of the content creators/writers; they do have Ebooks for sale on the site, but explain in the same paragraph that most of the info within them is available for free on the site- so there's no need to buy 'em if you don't want to. If you do end up deciding you wanna buy 'em, they range from $9-$12.50 each (each Ebook covers a different skill/topic), & there are srsly so many. They also offer bundle deals for Ebooks that have been grouped together based on their related content/info. And if it strikes your fancy, you have the option to subscribe to their newsletter to be notified when they come out with new books, products, & services.

Actually, I just realised that adam ragusea, a pretty cool cooking RU-vidr made a video about chopping recently that may be useful. If you're interested

I don't think I can put the link here for some RU-vid reasons but you should find it easily. Ragusea is not a commun name.

You kinda left out some things to learn for the viewer. I now know to leave the base on onions to cut them, but it took me some years to get that. Go through the most basic stuff and present a nice wrapup on the end. Also I feel like this (One Day Skill Video) cuts are all over the place.

The claw is horrible technique chefs only use it because they aren't focused at cutting they only want to chop as fast a possible u would never cut urself unless u aren't focused they only use it because they want to chop fast which is dangerous so the claw avoids energy but when cutting normally u don't need to do it
