Today I played Minecraft Version 1.0, my gosh it is AWFUL. THIS WAS A STRUGGLE. Please subscribe and leave a like :) Follow me on twitter!: / smallishbeans
I’m not an OG player of the game but I know what you mean fWhip! (By the way hello fWhip) (I started playing the game for the first time when the game was in 1.16)
kind of crazy how this is completely terrible in comparison to today's Minecraft but back then it was revolutionary. times flies lol, literally felt my bones creak while watching this (also congrats on the MCC first individual, the S in Smallishbeans stands for S tier)
@@adomasjarmalavicius2808 it better load quick considering there’s nothing complex to load. Even the chunks themselves are like a third of the current size.
Not gonne lie, Joel's house might be the best 1.0.0 build I've ever seen. The block availability is so bare it's unbelievable that anything that nice could be built in that version.
I personally feel like Joel tried to build something a little too complex for what's possible. With some more preparation, Joel's house would've probably been better.
It's because he tried to build with the 1.19 style in the 1.0 version. 1.0 has it's own feel and aesthetic balanced to what was possible during that time. While yes the new style is much better, there is still a way to make good builds in the old version that match.
I loved SystemZee's and Pearl's builds on EVO and found them amazing as well. I think those are probably the best builds I've seen in early game versions
I like how quickly Joel gets used to new Minecraft because the whole "Goes into your inventory instead of dropping on the ground" when you exit a crafting table is one of the most recent changes you mention
In 1.0, the dragon was very aggressive and you had to hit the dragon to stop it from ramming into you. The best way to do this is with a bow and arrow. Edit: No matter what version, bring a spare ender pearl so you don’t have to bridge across!
@@dezdanna9297 Small: Doesn't know how to get out of boat, "I can't get out of boats." Boat breaks when you crash against shore, "Boats break for no reason." Equipment takes forever to find, protects you a lot more and can't be repaired once you use durability- Small: Has been doing no effort to avoid being hit to protect his armour. Then complains when it ran out so fast. Like- it was so frustrating listening to him complain about things that were his own fault and telling his audiance not to play it cuz of that.
@@draugnaustaunikunhymnphoo6978why would you have to avoid getting hit in order to preserve armor. that means it’s not good. the whole point is that you CAN get hit in it. the point of fighting with armor is not to..avoid getting hit. avoiding getting hit is for your health. it’s just bad durability that’s why they fixed it💀and tbh i don’t think you know better than the creators of the game themselves.
oh man, i'm impressed at the amount of detail you were able to put into the builds considering your limited block options! i really enjoyed this :D GOD. that ending hurt. and the way they make you wholesale DELETE THE WORLD instead of giving you an option to spectate it...man. GG tho. we have it good in 1.19, that's for certain!
“if you’re nostalgic for old minecraft, don’t be” so true haha. every time he brought up an old feature i just cringed at the stuff i lived without. i remember being so excited for swimming, stripped logs etc.
I hate stripped logs I always accidentally strip them and I prefer no swimming because it’s ridiculous that you can go that fast from swimming without a boat
As someone who rountinely plays Tekkit (Minecraft 1.2.5) and still strongly remembers my first experience with a cracked version of Minecraft Beta 1.8 Joel struggling so much with things I fully expect is hilarity. Even though I do use the one-button run, I still double tap W a lot. Its a skill to have lol. Joel forgetting you have to dismount with right click was also hilarious
Man, I used to play so much tekkit, and watch the yogs too! It's funny that Joel's out here asking about things from 1.8(andesite) and 1.7.5( sprint button) like they've always been in the game.
I personally couldn't imagine going all the way back to 1.2.5 (which also happens to be the version I started on). I recently tried playing 1.7.10, and that was hard to do. Lol. 1.12.2 is the farthest back I can comfortably go these days, and even then, it needs to be a good modpack (recently did MC Eternal with some friends, which was pretty good). The swimming changes alone in 1.13 are a big one for me, never mind all the other vanilla improvements
You weren't taking much damage in full diamond because of a rather comical bug that existed in 1.0 exclusively. For some reason, it does the damage reduction calculation twice multiplicatively, meaning that instead of reducing damage by 80% as intended, it became 96%! (20% of 20% is 4%) The amount of damage you deal with critical hits (plus enchanted items) had a randomised calculation, hence why you also occasionally 2-shotted cows with an iron sword.
I love how many updates and texture changes were controversial when they first came out but now we go back and realize, my god this game really had an ugly phase huh
the amt of detail u were able to put into the builds despite the super limited block choice is so impressive !! i always forget how ugly some of the textures were back then esp cobble n wheat So glad they changed them to not be so jarring
I started playing minecraft a few versions after this (once it became popular among the boys at school. Not that I was a boy, but I had a brother so usually I ended up trying out all the same video games and whatever as he did), but even so, this is really bringing back some memories lol. Also yeah I think that water that was only one block deep, in early versions of the game just did not fully negate the fall damage, so that might explain some of the issues you had with the waterbucket clutching? i might be wrong tho, honestly, i didn't check it, it's just that i seem to remember it being that way. no idea when it changed
Man, got flashbacks to PBG's first Hardcore collab series with that death to the Ender Dragon. Sometimes it just goes straight for you in the old versions and there is jack you can do about it.
24:00 Just learned that void fog is in the end dimension too! (it was the fog and partials that appeared as you get closer to bedrock/the void- it was removed a few updates later)
Funny how most of Minecraft is more complex, more beautiful, more in-depth, and more difficult now, but I do remember the Ender Dragon being really hard to beat, so this seems accurate. 😂 The Ender Dragon is so easy now
I remember so many of these things, like the crafting table spitting out items, the sneaking over fields, the enchantments using all levels… I definitely played much more in older versions!
I like the old textures more than the newer ones it may be nostalgia playing into it but that’s what I grew up with and that’s what I like the older stuff lol
*Oh yeah!* I had forgotten all about the "feature" that cows could jump fences! That's why all my animal pens are just two-high dirt walls/holes. Yeah, before 1.9 Jean would just try to YEET you off the platform almost straight away. You were highly encouraged to build a pill box around the platform and walls on the bridge.
me thinking I didn't start playing Minecraft THAT early but then remembering there were no baby animals, enchanting, npc villagers or strongholds when I first played
The sight of the old nether takes me back, the old glowstone dust texture is so nostalgic. One of my core minecraft memories is bridging across the roof of the nether to get the one blob of glowstone in sight way back in 1.7.10
It was fun to see your reaction to all the old things in minecraft! So much has changed since minecraft was first officially released. I honestly forgot how brutal the ender dragon can be in older versions. Great vid!
I guess you could have built a wall around the end spawn platform before starting to bridge, but that would only slightly increase your survival chances. Ender pearls are the way to go. They used to be quite OP because you could spam them and basically save yourself from being dropped into the void
I actually really appreciate you posting the vid even tho you didnt get to 100 days. You put a lot of time into it, and i don't mind it being a lil shorter of a time period.
As someone who's been playing the game ever since the pocket edition came out (also 2011) but had been watching my brother play on his PC for more than a year (he started playing when the Alpha update came out), this video made me realize how much more I know about 1.0 version compared to the latest. I started playing non PE when chicken jockeys were first added and I'm pretty sure the jeb sheep was a new thing so around 1.7? Anyways, I ended up playing on 1.8 while I was at my peak of Minecraft and didn't start a new world/join a server until like 1.12 or smth. The most recent update I've played (as of rn) is 1.17 so I have much to learn. After all, you can learn only so much from watching other people play. So to hear how shocked Joel was throughout the video and comparing it to the latest update was fascinating to me. There's so much I never thought about that has changed like the sound of walking is now the sound of breaking dirt, needing to shift when walking over your farm and all the recipe changes. I will admit I also forgot how the end worked back then so I was just as shocked at the ending lol. Loved the video man! It's got me wanting to try 1.0 as well
That dragon fight was so intense i was on the edge of my seat the whole time (in all seriousness I wheezed through your reaction of you falling off like that's so unfortunate😭😭)
I played ~version 1.6 for years so many of the mechanics that are really common to most players were revolutionary to me. For example, I only figured out you *didn't* have to double tab to sprint two years ago!!! And the addition of boats not exploding and CORNER STAIRS (bless) was so exciting
The nostalgia, IT IS REAL! I started playing just before 1.2 launched and I recall ALL these struggles and the frustrations that came with it. xD Idk if I would have the patience to deal with 100 hours in 1.0, at least you tried. xD RIP that ending though. Stupid dragon. One other way to stop that is shooting her as she'll turn upon being shot while charging buuuuut yeah, that's still stupid regardless.
Man the old nether had such a charm to it. I kinda miss it. Oh wow and the old enchanting too. It had such a magical element to it. And wow that dragon fight was nostalgic, you had to worry about being knocked off the platform by the dragon and it spawned so far away from the island
@@lordofdarkness4204 yeah, pure refined compacted nostalgia. Out of interest how many in this comment chain played/watched this old version of mc a decade ago?
@Tori Ko I watched, but only started playing around 1.7.9.😅 Old Minecraft had some real issues, but so does new Minecraft and some of the old issue actually were never fixed as well.
This is something new it would be fun seeing him doing 100 days in 1.2 and till 19.3 in this seed only it would be great if you can than please do this great, tall and humble god joel
yoo seeing this i thought it was really old, it reminded me of the 'going through every version' thing you did a few years ago but it's brand new!! this looks fun (and painful but still fun)
I often use this version or similar on the xbox so I was just laughing at how he hated the version I use so much. The nostalgia was good though cause I primarily use that mode for elytra games (i understand it's a later version to the one he is using here, but tbf, it isn't all that different)
Joel: "I don't know if andesite is in the game yet." *Is playing 1.0 Java*. Andesite was added in 1.8, which was approximately 3 years later than 1.0's release. Somehow, I still feel like it's a new feature, lol.
The first few days of this video are basically just giant disappointment simulators. I can't believe that people got upset when they updated the textures. It looks so. . . sosososososo much better.
gosh this brings me back, i think it was around this version or a couple of updates after that I grew up playing on my xbox 360 , it never updated and it was the only one I had for a good like ten years before I got a xbox one where it also never updated but it was vastly different. minecraft was something back then very much prefer how it is now
This video needs to be shown to all of the people who criticise every Minecraft update saying 'it's not like how it used to be', personally I'm very glad its not, this genuinely looks painful to play!
