The real answer to the question of why bonds are better than a high yield savings accounts, besides potentially bonds having better rates, is that with bonds you can lock in that higher rate for the entire term of the bond, whereas HYSA rates will go down when interest rates go down.

3:27 Idk if soulninja44 is in this comment section but I live in Japan and have a bit of extra perspective for this question. It depends on your spending habits, but 4.4mil JPY is a totally livable salary in Tokyo imo if you're young and single. Your company will very likely pay for your transit fare for your commute, so you can circumvent higher rents in the city by settling for a farther apartment and not have to worry about the cost of trains on weekdays. If you settle for a dingy and small room it can get down to about 40k yen a month for rent (like $270?) but I think a more realistic expectation would be 80k~110k for somewhere that gets two of: close to station, thicker walls, close to city center, a little extra space. For reference I commuted to Shibuya from about a 25min train ride + 15 min walk for a year, and my apartment was 1min from the station with thicker walls for 100k JPY. You don't need to be worried about living in Japan at 4.4mil, and you'll most likely either save a decent amount each month or use it to explore Japan on the weekends. The only financial issue concerns visiting/moving back to the US, where your savings will suddenly be slashed, so if you're planning on only staying a year or two I'd suggest what Atrioc says and just use your cash liberally to really enjoy seeing the country.

I’d love to see a Marketing Monday analyzing the past/present/future state of the job market. Coming from someone second guessing their engineering degree in their sophomore year, I’d love to see a researched take on how people are responding to the current climate.

I applied to around 200 jobs and heard back from none of them affirmatively. Got super lucky that a recruiter messaged me on social media and I was offered a job, even though it wasn't one I had applied for. Definitely wish I'd seen this video around application 100 to know that it wasn't necessarily a problem with my resume/skills. Thanks for talking about this

I got a 50k a year entry level IT job a couple months after I graduated with degree in cybersecurity. It’s not close to the 80k+ jobs that I applied for but my manager is extremely supportive in the team leaving new IT skills and taking time off. I needed to hear that last part, life isn’t that bad for me.

Networking really is the way, I applied to so many internships and found nothing. Spoke to my professor and he got me a job with a company even after their hiring window had closed. Companies really want someone they can trust, and someone they can benefit from at the get go.

I really appreciate the way atrioc talks about things like this. Its really nice to have a creator who is so knowledgeable about these things, but also funny, and really cares about people. GOAT.

I think a better way to phrase his "invest in yourself and not a savings account" is more like, you shouldn't feel bad or anxious about spending money on reasonable things like a car / suit / training equipment / therapists, because long term they are expenses that will have more of an impact than blank depositing the same money into an interest account. Certainly it is always good to save money, but it shouldn't feel guilty to spend money on things that will make you happier now, instead of waiting until you're 50 before you can have dividends pay for half your wage and be happy later. The 10-30k that gets spent on random expenses for whatever car / training / hobbies / therapy is not going to be the make or break difference between affording a house. And especially if your goal is to be a multi/millionaire, it's not going to come from working a default 9-5 job and putting all the money into a savings / investment portfolio. I feel like its a pretty good faith interpretation (from someone with extreme financial anxiety).

The job market is awful rn. I'm currently in a more blue collar manufacturing job, and although I've been wanting to leave for a while, there just aren't any other real opportunities. Entry level jobs here are asking for 5 years experience. So for now I'm just sticking around since it pays 40k a year and I can afford to live alone

got a marketing internship for the summer, graduating next year. I got super lucky but ultimately i created all my opportunities through my network. About 40% of my friends were able to find summer internships and only one of us has a job lined up after graduation, but hes a dawg. Its wild out here and we a top 20 business school 😂😂

Government bonds are only as stable as the government supplying them. Like Ukrainian war bonds are a risky option. If Russia wins they all go to 0. That said, buying them is a way to support Ukraine financially, while also potentially making money if they end up pushing back Russia.
