@@leonardobaggio2574 I am delighted that you are considering taking this step. From my own experience, I can assure you that I do not experience any discomfort or limitations at the end of the day. I feel great. In fact, I find that working in VR is much more comfortable for my eyes than working on a regular monitor. Although I have not found any studies or articles explaining why this is the case, for me, it certainly holds true. I can work in VR much longer than I could in real life. Moreover, I have tailored my workspace specifically for VR. This means that all components, such as the mouse, keyboard, and chair, are optimized for working in VR. However, it is important to note that current headsets are still relatively heavy, so you need to be able to tolerate the weight on your head. Since I have been accustomed to VR for quite some time, this doesn’t bother me. My wife, on the other hand, finds the headset too heavy and cannot stay in VR for long periods. Fortunately, this is likely to change soon as headsets are becoming lighter and resolutions are improving, which will significantly enhance comfort. You can contact me if you need more informations.

I bought the Quest 3 as I had the Quest 2, and my main purpose for buying them is productivity, specifically pertaining to work. With the Quest 2, the resolution left a lot to be desired in terms of text clarity, so working in VR for an hour or two definitely left my eyes feeling strained and could give me a headache, but the Quest 3 doesn't. The increased resolution combined with the pancake lenses makes for such a good combo, to where it feels like the clarity can't really get that much better. Immersed is definitely the way to go for now, as they allow you to not only bring your real monitors into VR, but also make virtual monitors that you can even increase the resolution to 4k on granted you get the pro version. That said, I haven't found a way to utilize this for better clarity, it simply just increases the size of the monitor/fits more pixels into the screen. Setting a 200% scaling on the monitor brings it back to its regular size, but I haven't found that it's visibly clearer, although some do report that. As an added bonus, you can chill out with random people while you work in Immersed, even fully muted, which gives the working-in-a-café feel to it. This is the worst working in VR will be, so definitely looking forward to what's next!
I want to get a quest 3 for productivity too, my use case would be to connect it to my laptop via usb cable to get virtual monitors in passthrough. Can it be done?
What would be really cool for me, is Blender being hooked up to the app. I can model away as normal on my desktop and with a simple click have the model appear in my room so I can inspect it up close and make slight adjustments. Along with the game engine and my code editor all on the screens too that would be perfect. But I'm defiantly going to try this out when coding up sites using python and so on. I play games on my Quest 2 and now my Quest 3 daily but never thought about using it for work.
Did you try immersed VR? The graphics are sharp enough now that you could easily spend 2 to 3 hours using it on quest 3. You can have up to 5 monitors (4 feels about right) and you can run it in passthrough mode too (you'll probably want to have the quest powered with a battery or cable whilst using it). Since you were looking at web dev, and the passthrough element have you also seen web XR? You could create a passthrough experience with 3d elements of html in your room. I've done that on quest 2 but not tried it yet on quest 3.
How does immersed work? Does it require you to be online? Can you use it in airplane mode or where there's no internet? Also, what is the pricing? one-time buy or is it subscription? The latter seems like it would be too much just act as a monitor replacement.
Immersed is free but there is a paid for tier as well, you can get extra perks like up to 5 monitors. Thigs have changed recently anyway and now there are PWA versions of microsoft office apps available right on your quest, so remoting into another PC may not be necessary@@MaximumNewbage
Did you buy one? After seeing all these videos of people swearing it’s a good experience. I’m finding it terrible. The screens are garbage compared to my 4K monitors. I can’t understand how anyone would pick it over their own display.
Just a small note about the meta quest Browder, you can actually resize that small window by clicking on one of the options along the menu bar just below the window, it's on the left side next to your battery bar
Immersed is the way to go for productivity in VR. The free version is capped at 3 screens, 1 @ 2560x1600p and 2 @ 1920x1080 which is fine for me. If you get the pro version I believe you can have 5 screens all running at 2560x1600. You can also set where your keyboard is IRL and it will have passthrough where your keyboard is if you're like me and need to look at the keys every now and then.
thank you man, i have been searching for this again and again since the quest 3 came out. I wanted to buy a new monitor for work and i am a web developer and was wondering if this is a actual viable options for coding.
I got it, I like it, i feel like the industry is mature enough now since the rift and i am more willing to adopt because of the quest 3.@@CodexCommunity
i ended up getting it thanks! I love it so far took it to work and it was usable since i have a blank desk with just my laptop in the middle with the 3 monitors. the internet matters luckily its good enough for coding and seeing things from vscode and then rendering in broweser. I cant wait for this tech to be better as we move forward in things like Apple's Vision Pro then we will have better resolution.@@CodexCommunity
The quality is great on the quest 3. Better than than the HTC Vive and quest 2. The pancake lenses also make it so everything is clear not just the area in the center of lenses.
Bluetooth keyboard and mouse linked with the Quest allow you to use them in Virtual Desktop. I am using a Shadow PC and I can use it anywhere this way as a PC.
Thats one of the best videos for the quest 3, thanks! The passthrough mode really looks cool. Do you think if you are mainly a programmer writing stuff the resolution is enough too or do you have to get closer a lot when typing?
I found it comfortable enough, it was basically like having 1280x960px resolution. I can definitively say that the quest 2 was not useable in comparison, while this made it feel okay. I'd still prefer 4k resolution monitor however.
I'm frontend developer and the resolution is good enough for work, but the quest is heavy and not replace a standard monitor for now, greetings from México
When you say it would look weird in an office… imagine everyone in the office had a headset on too and everyone was able to see the window you have open… blacked out of course… so then it doesn’t look like your touching random air particles 😂
I design and build websites too and just ordered a quest 3 for these exact same purposes and stumbled upon your video looking for tips. Shot you a subscribe, seems like we have some things in common.
Have you had the chance to use it more, like 8hrs a day? I'm torn in between getting the Meta Quest 3 or an ultrawide 34" monitor I'm just worried about eye strain on the long term with the quest 3, otherwise I would have gotten it instantly
Can you tell me for how long you can do some work with the headset? People complains that the battery is dying and you can't use it for more than 2 hours. My work days are more than 2 hours and having 3 virtual monitor would be great for programming.
I never did a proper stress test, but it felt like 2-3 hours with the battery back extender, and maybe 1 hour without. But I also plugged the USBc cable into my PC to try Oculus Apps and that would make it run indefinitely.
@@diegoeme9838I own Pico4 , I think it is ok to working 3-5 hrs perday but the pancake len of Pico4 give you too much angle of Meta VR3 that mean you will see blur around circle of looking this point Meta3 is suite for working morethan Pico4 less straight focus more relax of eyes. But pico4 still great of their way if youcan pay getting Meta vr3 it better. I think Apple pro will the beat in term of 4 times resolution of pico4 and Meta 3 if you can git😅😅😅
when I was using virtual desktop with my macbook pro, it was quite laggy ... maybe it's just my network connection? Any tips of connecting to virtual desktop for productivity? thanks!
In Immersed app, what if, we took our bluetooth KB and Mouse, out of the bluetooth range from computer and Still Laptop and Quest 3 is connected in same network
You mentioned leaning in closer to the monitor to read. Does it not work well from a normal monitor distance? two feet away? Thank you so much for sharing. Being able to do software development for hours inside VR is the killer feature for me, but I'm still trying to figure out if the Quest 3 gets me all the way there or not.
Basically very much comparable to a 1080p monitor. I have a 1440p monitor and when running "Virtual Desktop" app , I can read the text just fine on it. For context, if you have chrome open and you look at the bookmarks bar, the text will be quite small, its still readable without leaning in but I can see aliasing around it and slight shimmering. Overall, if you are coding and looking at your editor you can 100% code with Quest 3, but you will be more productive with a monitor with 1440p or 4k resolution. But having said that the ability to have multiple virtual screens presents an upside and I can see myself trading off clarity for multitasking.
Do u use a seperate app to integrate your multiple screens or does it goes natively? Any headaches after using it for long time? Im planning to buy one for the same reason.
I'm a lawyer and I need to read a lot on the desktop, as well as use multiple screens. Do you think reading quest 3 is a good way to spend a few hours immersed?
It is very cool. But i would still wait several years to start considering, because I felt ideal VR device should not cover half of face at all, people should live or work in a natural way. 😊
Another user I saw there was a setting to resize the windows you carry around. Not sure if that's 100% true as I don't know if that was an app or something
Wish someone made a video for office work which is 90% of what people need it for (including dev work). All these videos focus too much on graphic-heavy stuff
It feels like 1280x960 if I was to compare it to a traditional monitor, clear, but the windows are around that size. The quest 2 felt like 480x320px so a big improvement.
I bought a playstation vr back in 2016 when it was new.. it was just wow.. so wow i couldn’t think of returning to normal gaming. In my mind, anyone who did not have a psvr were missing something amazing.. but after of couple of months.. i decided to sell it and to return to normal gaming.. having a headset even if it is very light.. is not natural.. think as if you are working with heavy boots , security vest and helmet and harness (if you are a construction worker) or a police officer with tons of heavy stuff to your belt and a bullet vest, or a soldier with tons of heavy gears .. anything on your head and face for long period of times become annoying, you are sweating, your hair looks ugly (motorcycle helmet) in the end you prefer not wearing anything so you can lay down in your bed, looking up or sleep on the side freely.. at night , when my wife is sleeping next to me, i use a earphone headset so she can sleep.. that alone is anoying.. it put pressure on your ears.. so honestly vr is fun but for very extensive use.. it is still a no no.. there are some glasses with old screens displays but they are not true VR.. but are much better for long hours.. the Appele vision pro is amazing, high quality and way more better than the quest3 but also alor heavier and extremely and i mean extremely expensive.. still i don’t think you can wear an apple vision pro all dat at work.. for a short mereting or a phone call or a small presentation.. maybe but all day long.. nope.. so all im saying is that vr headset on your head for very long hours is not there yet
Working in VR is the great excuse for buying Quest 3 😅but we all know the real reason. By the way, can you make the screen in VR bigger and closer to eyes, so you don't need to lean forward to see small text?
I never thought I was a screen resolution snob. I have a mate who is. He’s always whinging about stuff the rest of us simply don’t see. Then comes the Quest 3. I have one, it’s great for the price, but its screens are garbage. I keep seeing videos like this one, suggesting the virtual screens are good, and people do work on them. I simply cannot fathom why anyone would put themselves through that. I’ve used a bunch of virtual display apps. All leave me with the sense of being completely underwhelmed and disappointed. Maybe I’m a screen snob in VR?
