This is a perfect example of “occam’s razor”…(the most obvious explanation is true).. meaning watch the water flow, it doesn’t “pulse” like a hammer pump.. there is no (visual) movement other than him “priming”.. the water flows steady.. there is a Battery powered PUMP inside one of the tall parts.. THAT SIMPLE!! Make this out of CLEAR components.. Then we will talk!

I suggest that anyone trying to duplicate this "water pump", not permanently glue all the PVC joints together. That's because they will definitely want to return the PVC fittings to the store for a full refund after they repeatedly fail to get this "water pump" to work as indicated in the video. It takes considerable energy input to raise water from a lower level (at the inlet) to a higher level (at the outlet). What is shown in the video is simply not possible without some sort of energy input (like a submersible pump attached to the end of the pipe that is in the pond)... But the video trickery does make for some interesting viewing. Ed Schultheis, PE Mechancal design engineer & manufacturing consultant for 35 years Schultek Engineering & Technology, Inc.

Is it just acting as a syphon? I think once you got it primed (once the water is filled up to the highest point it creates suction as it fall down into the first big tube.) As long as the outlet is lower than that highest point, I believe this would work, as there is a pressure head due to the height difference of the two top pipes. Pretty cool.
@rafaelbarreto5833
@rafaelbarreto5833 Год назад
No, it wouldn't work since the outlet is higher than the inlet. For it to be a syphon the opposite should be true, outlet lower than the inlet.
@boblee37
@boblee37 Год назад
@@rafaelbarreto5833 I completely disagree. The outlet must be lower than the highest part of the closed system. Pretend we have a small piece of hose and we are trying to drain a pool. One end of the hose(inlet) can be at the bottom of the pool. If we hang to hose over the side of the pool, and only down half way on the outside. I can still suck on the outlet to creating the negative pressure necessary to draw the water up and over the side of the pool. Once gravity takes over, it creates its own vacuum due to the falling water.
@rafaelbarreto5833
@rafaelbarreto5833 Год назад
@@boblee37 In the case of your example I agree with you that the water would flow, but that is because the water level in the pool is higher than the outlet height, therefore doesn't matter if the hose is at the bottom or at the top of the pool, as long it is under water. Nevertheless, in the case of the video the outlet is clearly higher than the water level in the lake.
@argonaut6386
@argonaut6386 Год назад
No, as a Syphon has to have a lower output than input causing more weight of water on the output side. The higher weight due to gravity will suck the water from the higher side. This can't work in the opposite direction as they are pretending it does here.
@argonaut6386
@argonaut6386 Год назад
@@boblee37 The output end of the hose will need to be lower than the depth of the hose in the pool. If you lift the output side to the level of the hose in the pool the water will stop flowing. This is called the point of equilibrium.

Looks exciting but can't work in real life! The first law of thermodynamics cannot be broken! Energy has to be conserved. My take is that a means of pumping the water is hidden in those two vertical pipes; may be some batteries and a small motor in the suction pipe to turn a small turbine.

Nice cut at 8 seconds. Edit: Oh, I see the second time you play the clip you cut it. I'm guessing you've either got a submersible pump in the first big PVC tube, or someone connected a hose to it off to the right-hand side as you were kick-starting it. I expect it to be a pump because I don't see ripples in the water. Edit 2: Okay, I see the lack of hose at the end. It's possible the fitting you used is concealing something but it's looking more like an internal pump.
@observer950
@observer950 Год назад
Idiot it's a foot valve at the end it's a simple siphoning
@ThisRandomUsername
@ThisRandomUsername Год назад
@@observer950 Nope. There's way too much water coming out for it to be siphoned out of the bigger chambers, and you'd expect it to slow down as they empty. Also at 3:10 he puts a pipe on the end and the water continues moving. That's not how siphons work. What's actually seeming to happen is he primes the pump by ramming the contraption into the water and then it can pump until he takes it out again.
@diyathomevn

a new project, you have helped a lot of people without electricity to still pump water but scientists don't know, you have invalidated the laws of physics, your project should be awarded an international award, you make the water column higher than 3m, then run a generator, get free electricity and sell it to households for money, you just need to pump a few, soon become a billionaire.
