For my 40th in 2010 I received a 40yr old Douglas Laing, Old Malt Cask Secret Speyside (Glenfarclas) distilled 1967 🥃 Couldn't bring myself to open it once I realised what the wife paid for it... £140! Oh, how prices have changed over the past 13yrs 😕

The Signet has been a bit of a birthday tradition for me the last few years (not just my bday, but I bring it to my friend's as well). That bottle is sadly finished now & I'm debating buying another at the higher current price or move on to a different tradition bottle.

Congrats! I'll pour a dram of my AD/ Paul Lanois 2023 to celebrate your 40th. Great stuff indeed.

Very cool lineup with a nice mix of styles. FWIW Glengoyne 21 or Balcones' 15th anniversary bottle are high on my list as my next gift-to-me bottle. A Glenfarclas Family Cask bottle is forever my white whale.

Had a taste of that Ardnamurchan Paul Langnois Release a few weeks ago - truly remarkable stuff, very specific (and different) nose and taste and surprisingly tempered for a CS bottling.

What a night, Geoff! Seems your invite got lost in the post! I am pleased to say that I have a number of those whiskies in my own collection - even the Longmorn, which I was delighted to see. So, I'm not too jealous. When my son visits, we normally have four - sometimes five - different bottles to choose from, so your 12 actually made me more comfortable with our celebrations. Happy Birthday ! In September joined the 60 club and opened some special bottles I had been keeping for something special. An indi Longmorn 21 bottled in 2012 that was from the old coal fired stills. A indi Benriach 23 that was old enough to come from there in house malting floors. anCnoc 24 that when I worked back from the tiny bottling date on the back was distilled in 1995 when I was in Yorkshire on vacation so at least close to Scotland. I love the way Whisky is a time machine in a bottle like this. And finally the Tomatin PX distillery hand fill I got there in 2022 that was a 21 year old. Cheers

Happy birthday Geoff! I turned 40 about 3 Months ago. My friends aren’t the biggest whisky lovers and the largest bottle (travel retail, 1L) I had was the Caol Ila 12. And that’s what we drank. :) It is and also was a crowd pleaser. My wife also says that the good stuff should be smoked and drank to make a regular day special and I really like that idea.

I am very jealous of your haul 😅 As for your posed question as a fellow Canuck who just turned 40 a couple of weeks ago myself my wife and sister in law bought me The Dalmore Cigar Malt. I couldn't be happier with it, she said it was a dead heat between that bottle and the Craigellachie 17. I think I would have been pleased either way! As for my present to myself I picked up the Loch Lomond 14 which I am pleasantly surprised with...thanks for sharing your spoils with us lowly peasants 😅

Happy Birthday Geoff. Great list of birthday presents. On my 40th birthday i got a bottle of Port Ellen. Opened it at my 50th celebration diner. Nowadays unaffordable to get such a bottle as a gift, but back in the day it was about the price level of a 18 year old single malt in the current market. I am a lucky b...... Still have some old and special bottles that i like to open on a couple special occasions.
