I didn't even think about that there could be a meaning behind that dress. I see it in a whole new light. Holy crap. I like this dress more then I did. I wanna make one of her dresses. Probably the dress/coat from the Dragon episode. I love Yen so much. Her character arc was my favorite. I CAN NOT wait for season two.

ya, that was my interpretation, but yes I think it fits for her character. Best of luck with your Yen

@@Jedimanda the interpretation makes sense. I never really thought about a costume having meaning. I'm gonna have to watch the series for a third time and see if there's more things I'm missing (instead of ooggling Geralt hahaha).

It is insane how much work is put into these costumes. A lot of us just take it for granted. Now I realize why the replica I saw online was over $500. Your creation is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! This is my favorite dress from season 1. Yennefer is such a vibe.

this looks amazing and I can only imagine the fun movement it has when you walk! Have you considered melting the ends of the ropes? That should keep it together and stop it from fraying. If it still wants to untwist you can do a stitch or two to keep them together. I had to do that on a project for a company I used to work for and while it was tedious it kept everything together and the actors didn't destroy it
@Jedimanda
@Jedimanda 4 года назад
That's a great idea! But I did try that. The center of the rope trim was a natural cotton fiber and it just burnt up. I wish it was all poly and would just melt. That would have made everything so much easier.
@crinolinegremlin
@crinolinegremlin 4 года назад
@@Jedimanda I've accidentally made slow burning fuses with that on accident. It didn't end well. I think we ended up wrapping the ends in a matching thread and then dipping them in glue to seal it. I just remember the designer was VERY adamant on not having tape on the ends which made us all want to cry.

Beautiful dress!!!! Great job on adapting the pattern you had to fit for you! Question/suggestion about sealing the end of the rope. It's rayon and polyester did you try melting it with a lighter?
@Jedimanda
@Jedimanda 2 года назад
I did try yes but I hated the look and ultimately it didnt seal it well. I just went with invisible tape, it's an ok choice but it's working out.

What was the of this foot that you used on your sewing machine for this cosplay and what fabric can I used this foot on please ?
@Jedimanda
@Jedimanda 4 года назад
I think you are speaking about the walking foot I'm using. You can use that foot on any fabric that sometimes doesn't play nice underneath a typically sewing foot. The walking foot helps push the fabric under the foot so it may be stitched down nicely with no puckers resulting from the tension of the regular sewing foot.

I’ve watched this video multiple times, and each time I am just amazing at how stunning you made the final product! You are so skilled and inspirational! Watching this has definitely given me the confidence and tools to consider making this in the future! One question though: In an interview the costume designer for Witcher (Tim Aslam) gave he mentioned that that dress in the show was a “corset bodice” or a boned bodice. Although this rendition is not boned (and still looks AMAZING!), do you have any ideas as to how a maker may add boning to the bodice if they were to recreate it in the future, while keeping the general silhouette of the dress? (Mentally I’m plotting out some potential boning positions that do not create a separate bodice for the dress (thus making a waist seam, which I would want to avoid), but I want to consult the master on this!)
@Jedimanda
@Jedimanda 3 года назад
Honestly, the amount of rope that you will add on will act as a boned corset. HAHA, the dress can stand up itself. But if you want to add bones, you can to the front princess seams and the side seams. Use the seam allowance has boning channels or buy bones already with channels and stitch them into the seams. Easy way to add structure with having to alter the shape. Hope that helps!
