the track placements in Red are supposed to create this emotional rollercoaster. It was to represent the same kind of emotional rollercoaster she experienced in the relationship the majority of the album is about. So yes, it's jarring, but it has a purpose
someone pointed out that 22 comes after all too well because of the birthday thing that made her realize she needed to end the relationship. something i saw online that i CANNOT stop thinking about was all the references to her ex being a hipster kind of guy in a bunch of different songs and then in 22 she says that they dressed up like hipsters and made fun of their exes. the song was a way of celebrating being 22 after a bad 21st birthday and getting over the emotions in all too well.
I've always thought 22 coming right after all too well was weird but with the 10 minute version it makes sense. All too well mentions her 21'st birthday and how she sat by the door waiting for him to come and that whole time was very sad for her and 22 Is like I'm happier now I've moved on lets forget about our exes and just have fun type vibe.
I’m so happy you’re a swiftte! I’ve never clicked on a video so fast! Just thought I’d explain to you the all too well/22 placement (I only figured this out when red Taylor’s version came out) It relates the fact that All too well is about Jake Gillanhall . He never showed up to her 21st birthday, hence “The moment I knew “ and the lyrics “It’s supposedF to be fun turning 21” in All too well 10 min. So basically 22, a fun song about enjoying being 22 coming after a song about her ex boyfriend who COMPLETELY broke her heart and ruined her 21st birthday by not showing up is just a MASSIVE F””you to Jake
i picture it happening like a friend trying to console her and being like “hey, it’s not your 21st birthday anymore, he isn’t here, you’re 22 now!” and she responding like “you’re right. i am 22. fuck that guy” and then writing a song about that. i mean the opening line being “it feels like a perfect night to dress up like hipsters and make fun of our ex’s” is not coincidental. the fact that if she had released the original 10 mins it would have been “it’s supposed to be fun.. turning 21” going into a happy go lucky “idk about u but i’m feeling 22!” just speaks for itself
Sooo now we're waiting for the song tier ranking and the folklore conspiracy video? I find it extremely interesting how you ranked the albums since you only started listening to them recently bc i think a lot of my ranking wouldn't only be based on how good the albums are but on how much nostalgia i already have for them growing up basically alongside the stories she tells in them. And I just absolutely love that the two of you sat down, talked about taylor and decided to make a whole video just because you want to :)
Taylor Swift can really grow on you. I remember back when my little sister was all into her, and even after she kind of moved on I honestly really liked her music.
SEAMUS THIS HAS MADE MY DAY THANK YOU😁😁 seeing people’s unbridled enthusiasm (especially for taylor!) is always so great :) i also loved seeing my comments in the video hahaha
OMG I BECAME A SWIFTIE LAST YEAR DURING QUARANTINE TOO!! its so hard to argue with anyone's ranking of taylor swift albums because they're all good in different ways so how can you fault people, but since you like folklore and evermore so much i think speak now will really grow on you because i used to not even care about it at all but now i'd say it's only beat by folklore for me there are def some skips (which is why i think folklore is a better album, it truly has no skips) but it has so many of my favorite taylor songs like back to december, last kiss, the story of us, sparks fly, enchanted, haunted ... anyways, i'd love to hear your top ten favorite songs! everyone's are always so different, and it's so interesting to hear. thanks for the video, i loved watching it!!!
"Style" has a nice 80s vibe. I really like 80s vibes in modern pop. Conan Gray's Maniac was great bc of that 80s vibe & a lot of The Weeknd's music is great bc of the 80s vibe. I'm into that whole retrofuture 'vaporwave' sound.
I'm definitely not someone this video was meant for because I'm just overwhelmingly indifferent when it comes to Taylor Swift, but still this video was pretty funny/fun to watch so hell yea
You're so brave for putting your opinions on Taylor on the internet lol! You're right, there's no way you could do the album rankings where someone wouldn't get upset. Speak Now is my favorite album of all time and I knew going into this that you'd rank it sort of low! Also I assumed that Vegard would play the very beginning of each song when you were guessing! I think that would likely be much easier (for anyone).
My experience becoming a swiftie was VERY similar! I always liked her but Folklore and Evermore really introduced her to me and they'll always be my faves :)
Loved this video My ranking: 1. 10/10 Folklore, genius, spectacular, i love it, but invisible string is a bit too long and loses my attention like halfway through, also bettys third chorus makes me go insane 2. 9.9/10 Evermore- i think this album has better songs than folklore, BUT i think the tracklist is much worse than folklore and is very exhausting 3. 9/10 1989- i really really like it, there are so many iconic songs And i like shake ot off sue me 4. 9/10 Speak Now - I really like all the songs, my fav is back to December but as whole it is waay to long and a litt bit exhausting 5. 8/10Red-love the rock/pop stuff, the Tracklist is bad AND WHY ISNT NOTHING NEW A SONG ON THE OG ALBUM LIKW WHO TF WOULD CUT THAT Also all too well 5 min version is alot better than the 10 min version in my opinion 6. 8/10 Reputation- very good album that is hurt by some cringe lyrics, i don’t rlly like gorgeous or look what you made me do (also my “the song” is getaway car) 7. 7/10 Lover-Is almost really good, but it is just not mature enough and just has some stupid songs tgat make her sound like a trash celebrity only out for money ( Me!, Yntcd, etc.) 8. 6/10 Debut-i like 80% of the songs but the rest…. Are not great and the goods ones arent as good as her other ones 9. 6/10 Fearless- mostly good, not the best and some of the deluxe tracks are very forgettable
I don't think You Need to Calm Down makes her sound like a trashy celebrity, since I thought it was about Gay rights? Am I wrong? (although I do agree with you about Me!)
@@marymohr2799 i could have worded that better.. i meant that yntcd sounds very… artificial? Like she was just looking for a hit and didnt have her heart in it? For example the line “why are you mad, when you could be glaad?” Like, really? She gives much better lgbt representation in just one line in her song seven. And the worst part abt Yntcd and me! is, she knows how to make a hit that still has great lyrics, for example, like, all the singles off 1989, she just doesn’t, it feels.. lazy abt half-hearted to me? I feels like her whole “gay rights” thing meant well but TO ME fell flat BUT i will not lie it is pretty catchy and i like the video and i liked how she put up a petition at the end
@@brysonm1342 That makes sense. I hope I didn't offend or anything. I like the song, but I can see your point. She definitely has the talent to craft some stunning lyrics, and that song really doesn't show that at all.
I just became a full on Swiftie about two months ago, and I relate to a lot of opinions and things that Seamus said in this video. I even guessed the same songs he did at the end and missed the ones he missed lol
Despite knowing next to nothing about Taylor Swift I really enjoyed this video. Seamus talking about something he’s passionate about despite myself not knowing anything is super refreshing.
I had absolutely no idea what you were talking about for like 90% of the video, but this was really entertaining for some reason. I've never really given Swift a proper listen, so I guess I gotta checkout Folklore now.
Yess, Debut has NO skip. Period. That album deserves better honestly. Personally, Speak Now >>> Fearless. Love them both, but Speak Now…. Fell in love with that album ever since I first listened to it. That’s a masterpiece right there.
Haven't watched the video yet, but I'm so excited :D I love her(as you can tell based off of my profile pic xD) and was very pleasantly surprised to see this video :D Anyways, figured I'd share my story ;-; So a year or two ago, I had these 2 online friends right...So I liked some of her music, but never actively listened and only knew the extremely popular songs(Shake it off, blank space, we are never ever getting back together, etc.). So these 2 friends are both massive swifties, like MASSIVE. So we all played this game, and one of my friends and me 1v1ed. And she said if I lost I had to listen to reputation(her fav album) and if I won...i dont remember LOL but anyways, I lost. So basically I'm a stubborn person so I didn't listen and refused to listen for a while...Then we had an argument and I was sad, so basically my way of making it up to her was actually listening to reputation ;-; I liked it, and ended up listening to her other songs :D rep is still my fav album and I'm close friends with her again :D Edit: I like her and I'm still a fan mainly bc first off, just amazing lyrics and just a great songwriter and artist in general. Second off, I was going through a breakup at the time, and it was basically just relatable to me ;-;
It’s so hard to rank her albums. I think my top tier is folklore, speak now, evermore, and maybe red. I think the pop albums all fall in the same general area for me but 1989 is probably the best. All are great though. Fearless TV and debut are my least favorites from her, but they’re still amazing. She’s just a really great artist.
Aaah I love Folklore- it's the album that made me a Swiftie. The Lakes is gorgeous. So is the 1. and the last great American dynasty. So are hoax and invisible string and exile and this is me trying and cardigan and betty and august and mirrorball and my tears ricochet and mad woman and illicit affairs and seven and epiphany.
I really like how everyone listens to music differently, and it is always fun seeing how that affects their experience of the music. Personally, I don't really listen to music according to my mood, or because I just think it's good. I listen to it the same way I'd read a book, trying to analyze it and figure out the small easter eggs and stuff, which is probably why I rank her newer albums on top with her older albums at the bottom, because I've already listened to those to death, so apart from when she re-releases stuff, there's not that much new there. Very fun video!
The way my(a Swifty from day one) opinion on Lover is the same as yours is just proof of you being a proper Swifty, love your passion and I hope you enjoy all the re-records! Very excited for Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) to come out for everyone but especially for you! Hope you get tickets!
I didn't like Taylor Swift when I was in school because it was cool to not like her and I wanted friends lol but as an adult I've realized her songs are the best and I, too, am a Swiftie now.
Honestly I had this exact journey, but I also think a lot of it had to do with learning about how completely badass the move was to re-release her music and stick it to men who tried to control her.
i remember i was just on tiktok and a swiftie came up on my fyp and i just said to myself “i wanna be obsessed with taylor swift.” 3 years, 200 songs and £400 later, here i am :D
Fearless is my fav just for nostalgic reasons and I also don't really like electronic sounds, but Red was the only album I've ever owned. And I can understand not being into the track order, but I also kinda feel like that's what your 20s are like (constant ups and downs while you figure things out) so that perspective on it helped a little for me. But some of her other tracklist orders are also pretty wild
Can I say how much I love this video cause I had a very similar journey literally like a month and a half ago. I am a full on swifitie now. I have been listening to Folklore, Evermore and Lover literally non stop for the past few months, and before then I had the opinion that she was mediocre but that wasnt the case at all. Just finished the tier list and I personally would put lover just under folklore and evermore, but what you say about folklore and ever more are literally my take too. They are absolutely very connected and also basically flawless.
I wouldn't even consider myself a swiftie, I'm more of a casual fan, but this video brought me genuine joy. My face actually hurts from smiling. This was a super fun video. Thank you for being honest about your swiftie life.
I'm not even a Taylor Swift fan but this video is such a joy to watch. It's always nice to see people being so enthusiastic about things they like :) Thank you for the video!
22 was after All Too Well on purpose. This was because her 21st birthday was so horrible from that relationship and so when she was 22, she was having a lot more fun!
I grew up with Speak Now and other Taylor Swift songs so I've always liked and listened to her music but I didn't really become a full-on swiftie until when All Too Well (10 Minute Version) came out. Now I am lowkey obsessive lol
This video made me smile so much! I love how you brought up how she chooses really great tracks to open each album. I think she also does an amazing job with her album closers (I especially love Long Live, Clean, New Years Day, and Daylight😊).
and I was a bit disappointed by the way you ranked lover but I fully understand what you are saying abt it. when I first listened to lover, which was years ago, I HATED it. or I mean, I didn't hate it, I just only liked maybe one or two songs from it at the time and then refused to listen to the rest of the album. same went for reputation at the time. but this was a long time ago and I ADORE lover and reputation now. so they might just take some time to grow on you more!! like for lover... daylight is one of my most favorite songs from her probably. I also REALLY liked death by a thousand cuts. and cruel summer is amazing. but you're not me so if you have a different taste from me than that's fine!! and I didn't love the archer at the time but now it's another one of my favorites from the album and you said reputation didn't have a one song that stood out to you, and for most of the album I would agree with you, but for me the songs that stand out to me the most are the ones that are different from the main tone of the album, which are delicate and new year's day. they also apply more to my general music taste which is more indie and folk stuff, especially new year's day. but new year's day is also one of my overall favorites from her, because it's just so BEAUTIFUL. it's soft and sweet and it's so _real_ in its expression of love, more than almost anything else from her, except for maybe daylight. what I really love about it is it shows that a relationship isn't always sunshine and rainbows, it can't be. it wouldn't be human for Anything to be good all the time. you have the bad times too, for both of you, and the relationship has to stay together through those, for those, not in spite of them. you have to want their midnights but be cleaning up bottles with them after the party. it's just a real, human experience and that really resonates with me. daylight, from lover, also really resonates with me and I think the lyricism is beautiful, but to understand it you really have to have been a long time fan and know what's happened to her in order to really know how meaningful the lyrics are in reference to her past albums and her past experiences. basically the album lover is about her relationship with joe alwyn, and there's also songs abt this relationship in reputation, and they're still together in folklore/evermore and even wrote some songs together (with joe alwyn under the alias of william bowery). but joe is the first real, good relationship she's had that hasn't fallen apart on her, and the first boyfriend that's actually been a good person and the first relationship that's been GOOD for her. she's finally found a real, true love, and knowing that makes all the albums referencing that love more meaningful. but all my arguments aside. I am so happy with your rankings of folklore/evermore, if you'd put them any lower I would be very upset. those are the best albums she has ever made, and probably the best albums I have heard from anyone in a WHILE. the lyricism and the storytelling and the whole mood and this universe she conveys could be like an entire big film series from how good her storytelling is, and everything on folklore gets even better when you watch the long pond studio sessions. I really wish she'd do that kind of explanation movie for evermore but I digress. basically those two albums are absolutely phenomenal and she would have to work VERY HARD to top these. but overall I think you ranked everything very well (even though I'm not sure I agree w you abt red) and it was really fun hearing abt your journey! welcome to the swiftie community! ♡
My view on folklore Vs evermore: - folklore is a better album when viewed as a full body of work, it flows better, has a more cohesive sound and vibe - evermore is a better album when viewed as individual songs, there are more stand out songs - they are both fucking lyrical and sonic masterpieces - if you asked me to make a definite decision of which is better I could ramble on about them for hours and still not come to a decision, i think if I had to my brain might actually explode, every time I listen to each one I’m reminded why I love them so much - they are Taylor’s best two albums - not necessarily my two favourites (that also changes depending on what I’m listening to and is whole other long ramble, I like them all for very different reasons and there’s so much musical variety I find it very hard to compare them ) - but her two best musically speaking
that is the vibe of red, happy free confused and lonely at the same time. the reason why 22 comes right after all too well is because it’s basically a continuation of the story of all too well. jake gyllenhal ruined her 21st bday so 22 is like a breath of relief after her relationship with him...it’s a new start for her
this was such a fun video lol! i want to listen to folklore now so you’ve done your job !! also i think the guessing songs thing is easier if you play a short clip of the beginning of the song instead of a random clip
so ive only really listened to red (TV), 1989 and Lover and this would pretty much be my ranking so I'm thinking id probably love Reputation then, regardless of all that I'm doing as seamus did and listening to all her songs in order
Vegard: one day you were just on the floor listening to folklore through your laptop Me: Seamus has embodied the Lilo and Stitch scene with the 2 characters on the floor with Elvis playing on the record player ❤️💙
thank you because 1.evermore and folklore are objectively the best albums ever. 2. folklore love triangle conspiracy board? possibly sequel with evermore?? 3. speak now WILL grow on you the more you listen to it, especially after hearing the from the vault tracks (honestly same with 1989 the taylor's version is soooooo much better) 4. Albums with black and white covers are somehow actually better? (this doesn't just pertain to ts) 5. Not knowing all too well is all too relatable for me as a new swifty only now really exploring her music 6. MY WORLDS HAVE COLLIDED 7. T(oy story/Turning Red) A(Bug's Life) Y(our Friend the Rat) L(uca/Lightyear) O(nward) R(atatouille) (if you didn't get it, it spells out TAYLOR)
Folklore is my #1, Lover, Red TV, Fearless TV Tier 2: Speak Now, 1989, Evermore Tier 3;: Self titled, OG Fearless, OG red, Rep I expect this to be changed a lot once we get more TV, Rep has REALLY grown on me this year too so it's definitely gonna move up
