I sometimes follow Murphy Napier too, but I was under the impression that Greek myth retellings were hot right now. FWIW, I think lovers of Greek myths (The big Greek myth geeks [myself included]) are never going to grow tired of that genre. PLUS, you're exploring a topic of Greek mythology I've never seen before. There are a TON of Persephone retellings, Medusa retellings, Hercules, and I even saw a retelling with Galatea. All great stuff, but I'd never seen anyone do what you're doing with the Amazons. And you're absolutely right, trends come in waves and circles. You're definitely in good shape. :)

@authoreloisebahr Месяц назад
@@authorjmceli it’s the double edged sword I think… where it is hot but based on how quickly the market is being saturated, I’m sure people will be sick of it by the time I’m done with all of what I’ve got to offer. Ah well, still going to do it lol There really are SO MANY HadesxPersephone retellings… and that’s half the problem is the piggy backing off of what’s successful… you can see the same with any other hot genre. All of the dystopians that came after Hunger Games, vampire books after Twilight, fae romantasy after ACOTAR, or cozy fantasy after Legends and Lattes… sigh. Thank you for your kind words and encouragement, I appreciate it! I’ve actually stopped trying to sell my stuff as “myth retelling” because it’s about as much of a retelling of the Amazons as Wonder Woman is 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hmm that’s a good idea to watch readers ask writers what to stop doing although it’s soooo subjective 💀 I think all genres are oversaturated to be honest 🫠 but every writer has a reader so…keep going Eloise❤ I loved your insights! I don’t want to be tired to seeing fantasy (I’m writing one for crying out loud) but I am over the typical storylines. I want to see it switched up and I want new time eras that can still be considered fantasy. Medieval is just tired. Yes, my book is medieval lololol
@authoreloisebahr
@authoreloisebahr Месяц назад
@@t-helen-price I agree it’s subjective but since I don’t read as much as I wished I did, it’s a good litmus test… if readers are saying “stop writing enemies to lovers” it’s probably because there’s SO MANY done, and if I didn’t watch these kinds of videos I wouldn’t know what’s prevalent in the market 🤷🏻‍♀️ still going to write what I want though 🤣 I think people get tired of the medieval Europe type settings in fantasy because authors apply the same sexist attitudes… like come on it’s a fantasy, we can have castles and women’s rights 🤣

it's a bit of a misnomer since SO MANY of our stories are myth retellings, but yeah, being BILLED as myth retellings, esp Hades/Persephone (see Dark Fantasy category), has had a minute. Onward! Let your love light lead your readers to you 🕯🔥

You write Greek myth retellings? :) I always looked at your story as an emotional journey of characters exploring their life against relatable elements while being dressed up in Greek Myth. You write characters and emotions first and everything else is secondary.

I am also releasing a Greek myth with a twist this year so I feel your pain. It isn't spicy like all the Hades/Persephone retellings so I hope to catch those who are tired of the same trope over and over but still want Greek myths and heroes. I am sick of Cozy Witch mysteries being the almost exact same story over and over and over. Changing the character names for the girl who leaves the city and may or may not have known she was a witch isn't good enough and always putting it by a bay or lake hidden from the world just adds another repeat in the genre tropes. The last series I read got DNF'd despite how much I loved the Great Aunt's ghost who would hang out in the local gym men's locker room.

@@PenumbraMineMMWard I completely understand what you’re talking about! The market gets so flooded with copies of some original success that then the really unique ones have trouble standing out. 😵‍💫 But we got this! 💪🏻 What’s your Greek myth with a twist?! I’m all ears 🤩

@@authoreloisebahr It's called The Spartan Chimera. Here's the elevator pitch -- In the great circular game the king of the gods controls, everything in spiraling chaos. An orphaned Spartan girl with two souls like a chimera could change everything. God of War Ares has only one piece on this round of the game and a bet to stop Zeus’s madness from continuing. If Polluxea and Coresae can bring peace, the repeating cycles of the game will end; if they can’t, Zeus’s egomaniacal desire to have a perfect legacy will push civilization into chaos and destruction.
