Uh..you realize most of the actors in the Japanese version are really prominent (because they're good!) & are a whole bunch of characters that don't sound all that different...right? Like Mamoru Miyano is in a *bazillion* major roles. This is from someone who may not b a fan of the *show*, but loves VA's in general. I'm not defending anime companies' practice of paying for only the cheapest VA's possible. But it's honestly silly to say that Japanese VA's are *so* good, they're unrecogniable in any role.

Greg Ayres makes a great shota boy, as most shota characters are voiced by women. And I think a woman voicing a guy in an anime full of borderline gay boys would be silly. And for anyone claiming that Rin's VA is an asshole, please provide a source. You can't make a compelling argument without evidence to back you up. A tweet, a post of his, anything that shows Vic directly being a douchebag. His voice for Rin is fine. It's deep enough to match Rin's voice range in the dub, and he's consistent with it. J Michael Tatum is the classic megane voice actor, no surprise there. Also helps that he is gay.Johnny Yong Bosch, I must agree, is not as innocent as Japanese Makoto. But I still think he's okay. He can certainly pull off a dorky "I'm kinda embarrassed by this situation" voice, which is good enough for me. AND SHUT THE EVER LOVING FUCK UP ABOUT THE "REEN" THINGTHAT IS LITERALLY HOW IT IS PRONOUNCED IN THE JAPANESE VERSION. THERE IS NO SHORT I SOUND IN JAPANESE. IT IS ALWAYS PRONOUNCED LIKE "EE". TL;DR, the dub is fine, Vic isn't an asshole, Rin = Reen
+Monique Kalu I'm so glad someone else thinks this way! I mean sure there are some rough parts or awkward pronunciations but I actually loved the English dub. For me it translated their friendship and emotion better or maybe it just struck me more because I was hearing it in my native language. Well "dude" and "man" were way overused but still, they were buddies in high school, it makes sense that the studio would try to make the dialogue suit its English speaking audience and all the weird phrases kids say nowadays - is that where we got that amazing "backstroke for days" line? I love it :D I like the dub so much more because when listening to the sub I never overly liked Haru because it seemed like he we a lifeless blob but that perspective finally changed when I saw him in the English dub where he became more moody, mysterious yet still aloof and keeping to his character compared to how I previously thought he was so apathetic about everything. Also I adored Johnny Young Bosch and Tatum! I thought they both did splendid and portrayed their characters wonderfully, revealing masculinity while still being either a little shy or more refined and eccentric instead of cliché pushovers. I also don't understand why people have problems with Vic, he's a very accomplished voice actor who seems to really reach out with his fans. Like you've said, I haven't seen anything he's done that should upset people and even the one video I saw about him not wanting to sign yaoi material was done respectfully and people should respect his boundaries as well. But back to Free! Ah I just don't why everyone gives it so much hate. Its much better than most dubs out there and thankfully they keep on improving since anime has expanded into high demand. Let's hope funimation dubs the whole thing and keeps giving these VAs roles
I personally enjoyed the dub too and think the dub vs sub war needs to just stop. Some people are gonna like it and others don't, we all need to just leave it at that.
Nagisa is Sunohara from Clannad, Rei is Okabe from Stein's gate, Haru is Death The Kid from Soul Eater and Makoto is Ichigo from Bleach. It's so weird to watch all those anime and then hear the same voice actors play a different character in another anime, FYI i think you would like clannad if you haven't seen it already.
+CrimsonSuoh !_! I'm glad that there are some people who think this way! I personally like and prefer watching dubs (But I can just as easily watch subs as well) and while there are some cringeworthy moments in this dub, it's still very enjoyable

this is literally a bunch of really good voice actors all stuck in hell together. these are some of my favorite voice actors, and I adore free! but oh my gosh what did they do to the script did they just write "NO HOMO" on it over and over and improvise or something?? like STAHP
REEN, REEN!! I hate the voice for Gou, it should've been a little more childish, she sounds like she's 24 it really creeps me out. P.S. Nitori sounds like a monster truck. Overall, the show is amazing.

Wait, ok... But... this is Todd Haberkorn, J. Michael Tatum, Johnny Young Bosch, Greg Ayres and then Vic freaking Mignagna is Rin???? Firstly, yay for the Hitachi twins, Kyoya and Tamaki reunion!!! But seriously, these voice actors are like at the top of every anime dub list! Why do people hate this dub so much? Personally, I haven't watched the dub other than this video - I didn't even know they'd made a dub. But I don't think it sounds awful... Does it sound awful? Only thing I can think of is that Vic is a bit of an odd choice for a character like Rin. I wasn't thrilled about Vic as Zero in Vampire Knight, his voice is just too soft and sweet, but Idk I haven't heard him as Rin. Is this really as awful as people say, and if so, why? How is it possible with a cast like this?
I don't get why so many people don't like the dub. I mean I know that it isn't the best but that's just an opinion. Personally I love the dub, it's hilarious! It may not be as good as the sub but if it can entertain me I don't care~

Yes, Nagisa's voice actor is the same guy who played Youhei Sunohara from Clannad... Sorry, I don't know the voice actor's name, but I know he's played many other characters like (the guy who is sort of like Youhei, sorry, forgot his name) from Kanon and the main protagonist (sorry, forgot his name too...) from Deadman Wonderland...
+Sayaka-Chan I've heard a lot of female fans talk about inappropriate sexual attitudes with them, from just 'tenderly caressing' hands to getting drunk and trying to bring back girls to hotel rooms. A lot of people also claim he's shit to work with. One handler literally had to deal with him running off into the crowd.
