Most arcade ft10s in Japan they swap sides after 5 wins just to make sure it’s totally even. In case someone has a better side I guess.

Yeah. I understand this one. Sometimes arcade cabs have better/fresher controls on one side, depending on maintenence. Sometimes the screen display is off-ish(discolored, missing pixels,, flashes randomly for a few frames) on one side and not the other. Then in some extreme cases the lighting around the cabs that reflect off the screen or space can be cramped. But yeah. Arcade sets hit a little different. I've never experienced it in JPN. But I've seen these type of concerns before at my own arcade. Sometimes we used to swap sides because the sticks weren't taking inputs correctly or buttons wouldn't input consistently. It's no fun when you and your friends know one side has an advantage.

@@theWIIISEguy it's also a player thing. Some players are more consistent with inputs and timings one one than the other. I remember hearing Apologyman was actually so much better on P1 side in UMvC3 that he would like rock-paper-scissors the opponent for it prematch.

@@BlueDragon7100 True. That's definitely a factor in most local matches, due to players usually being next to each other. I'm not sure but I think Japan must has fighting game cabs that are back-to-back. But anyway, very true. It takes a while to really balance out your skills for both sides. I still have issues doing SPD's in a clockwise motion. CCW is cake tho. 🎂

Also I think they switch sides every three games just so if someone has a side preference it gets totally negated and it's just one more thing to put everyone a level playing field. Obviously if this were something like Tekken it would matter a lot more, in Street Fighter not so much. But I guess it's kinda like real sports like in both regular football and American football the teams switch sides at half time.

I can almost feel the frustration at the end there. The fingers start tappin' and the gums stop flappin' after a defeat like that Also, I think I know what he gave Mago at the end. A piece of Bubble Wrap style plastic. They say "puchi puchi" in Japanese had to sort of lip read it and the commentator seemed to say it. It's like a stress relief toy ;)

3:19 I believe Topanga League switching sides makes things fair for both players. Why you might ask? Because, of dexterity control between Left & Right. Most players usually have a strong side they prefer to be on like for example 1st player (Leftside). By default that's the side we're most commonly placed in the beginning of a match. So it makes sense. Some might argue that pad players are more dominant on the left versus the right side and Stick players are more comfortable on the right side. Who knows for sure, because each individual is different regardless of what side their on. Or players can be dominant & comfortable on both sides. Lemme know you throughs comment section.

Personally, I feel players who go into a tourney/comp setting and can't perform on both sides deserve whatever loss they get. The rule is whatever and if everyone is fine with it cool for them.
