Great video, been watching for while now. One thing I would suggest about your videos is consistent audio. It's a little bit annoying when your zoomed in talking then zoom out talking its always quiter. Maybe look at getting a mic you can wear or something so the sound is more consistent.
Great for those needing a little help. Beautiful top line. I couldn’t go near them though. I need help with spin not power but I know plenty of people who would get loads out of them. Top review.
I’d deffo like to see Mark test these. With the Arccos, you really get best value from it after you’ve played 5 or so rounds, then the caddie suggestions kick in.
I think it would be interesting to have 3 different golfers play a round together with the same clubs and give feedback afterward. By three I mean high, mid and low handicapper. Thank you for the video.
As a club repairman, I would great concern attempting to alter the lie or loft about the top carbon insert irons with conventional jigs. The possibility of cracking it puts me off from taking the risk of liability for this club.
Yes please a mid handicap demo. Also comparison of super game improvement irons, would be great. I'm creeping into that category. ...getting old is not for sissies! LP
Actually, I should have said 8-iron! I am a sixty year old that has witnessed Tennis and Racket Ball both ruined by manufactures removing hand eye coordination from the game.
I believe the market is focusing too much on distance lately. It's cool to hit a 7 iron 200 yards but it becomes more difficult to control the sub 150 yard shots. A PW at 42°?
Would be good to see a round with Cobra Connect. Mark should enjoy these, providing they didn't feel too heavy for him. I am in the market for a new bag full very soon - could it be Speedzone throughout? Have to find out where my local Cobra fitted is.
I really don't like clubs who makes it increasingly difficult for a middle handicapper to hit the "correct" distance with all the irons. (8-10 yards longer with the next club). In my worlds if way better to have week lofted clubs. (Think i210 retro specs, 7 iron 35°). I; a low/mid-handicapper (am bad on the green) plays really old irons because of this (Tommy Armour Silver Shot 845s from 1992.) The7 iron 36°, and they have a 4° different between all the clubs. That set give me around 9-10 yards distance between every club from 3 iron to SW. In comparens I have more "modern" irions (2014) like TM speedblade who are not the most strong-lofted but still gets to strong when we tries to get the right distance between the 3-5 irons. (The 7 iron is 30,5°) I struggle with the TM although is a egoboost to hit the 8 iron (36,5°) 155-160 yards. In comparison; The Tommy Armour 8 iron (40°) goes 140-145 yards. The big difference is that I hit the 3 iron just as easy as I hit the wedge with Tommy Armour clubs but it get increasingly more difficult to hit TM long irons. (The 3 and 4 iron goes similar distance most of the times.) Another big difference is the lateral and longitudinal distribution.) The Tommy Armour have a very narrow distribution in all the directions while the TM have a wide longitudinal distribution. (They have similar lateral distribution although the Tommy Armour is way easier to control high/low and/or to work from left to right/right to left.) And to me that's way more important than the particular distance the 7 iron goes in any given golf-set.
Not sure why they bothered putting numbers on the bottom! You need another gap wedge before a sand wedge! Or do you just give up under 100 yards? Definitely for distance but will they stop on a green with those spin numbers. A higher handicap might get distance but they might be frustrated with the ability to hold a green. Mark or Foxy input might be interesting!
Love to see a comparison of these with the KING Forged Tec. I have them in one-length and really enjoying getting accustomed to them, especially the shorter irons. Feels very similar to my old p790's.
My opinion is stay away from Cobra. Run fast. Run far. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere. My opinion is also 3 years in the making. This will turn into a long comment (story) but here goes. I went in for a complete fitting, after weighing all my options i decided on the Cobra F6 irons. Within a few rounds of hitting them the cavity cover broke off the 4 iron. I went back to the fitter and it was repaired. Within a week it broke again. The fitter returned it to Cobra it was replaced. About a month (4Rounds) later the 5 iron cavity cover broke off. It was sent back to Cobra and replaced. I again had the same issue with both the 4 and 5 iron. Finally Cobra decided to replace my entire set with F8 irons. I wasn't overly excited because I simply just wanted what I paid for. So, the F8 irons I was given came and they were stock off the shelf. My fitted F6 irons were 1" long 1 degree toe up 1/2 degree more loft. Instead of complaining and being without irons for however long it would take for this to be fixed I went through the season with them and my game already bad enough regressed but I was trying my best. Towards the end of the season my 7iron snapped the head off right at the shaft. I returned to the fitter. They deemed it to be under warranty due to how and where it broke. So after much talk we decided being end of season to take the time and get them fitted to my specs. So again 1" long, 1 degree toe up, 1/2 degree more loft.... so excited to be hitting some pure shots again. Felt great. Ball flight was perfect for me. Yardages felt right. Finally this had a happy ending and I could golf with some confidence at address instead of so much doubt in my equipment. NOT SO FAST !!! This past Saturday (1/11/20) while golfing at a simulator the cavity cover snapped off of my 7iron. So my saga continues with Cobra. I will admit I feel as if my club fitter and Cobra both have tried to work with me to resolve this issue. The customer service has been good. But I do question the quality of Cobra products. I am by no means a good golfer but I do not consider myself bad enough a golfer that clubs can't hold up to my game. I typically shoot in the 80's.
Just bought a set of these 2nd hand, excellent value for the money. Specially as I am only now getting back into the game after 20 years away and didnt want to fork out Huge amounts of money until I am happy with game.
You refer to mid-handicap when referring to a 12 handicap guy, Go out to the first tee at your favorite course and ask for their legitimate handicap. I would guess you would find that mid-handicap (easy math) would come closer to 20. Your comments?
These Cobra's remind me too much of the original King Cobra Oversized Irons...you know...from the mid 1990's. I sold my set because the gaps between how far I hit.....say an 8 iron, 155 yards, and my 7 iron...which I was hitting 195 yards...well...I had nothing I could hit from 160-180 yards. So, I with had to really stand on an 8 iron or try to hit a three quarter 7 iron. The distance problem was more than I cared to try to fix, stto I sold them and got a set Lynx Black Cat Irons that I played from 1995 until 2010. I purchased a set of Nike Slingshot Irons, Driver ( which I seldom use...I prefer my 13° 3 metal ) and 3 & 4 Hybrid's...with Senior Flex graphite Shafts that actually give me almost the exact distance I was getting with my old clubs without swinging as hard.
I went for a fitting in Sept. and after trying 4 different brands of irons I bought the Cobra F9 5 iron through LW. I was very impressed withe feel and consistency of the yardage no matter were I struck it on the face.i am 66 years old play to an 8 handicap and these maybe the best feeling irons I have ever owned.
Not a fan I'm afraid the lofts on most irons are getting silly now heard tm saying they increase lofts to help high handicappers who aren't able to get proper launch angle or something like that I call bs on that think it's marketing so people say ooh I hit the new 7 x yards further I'll stick with my maltby forged endless possibilities of shaft ect if you know what you are doing
Nice looking clubs. I’m a high handicap player and could see how they might help my game. Let Mark play a round with them to see how he does. Would also like to see you play a round with the cobra connect to see how helpful the info is
Do you feel theres kinds of irons are aimed at people like myself who flip at impact? I hit my irons really high with lots of spin so having that lower launching lower spinning set up might suit that flipping action?. I know I should just be sorting my impact out (I've been trying for years) but this could be a option for someone like myself ? What do we think ? Thanks as always for the content
Play a round with both cobra SZ irons. Standard length and single length using cobra connect arccos and see how each round stats look. No drivers just irons.
changed from old TM to these Speedzone, ive dropped 9 of handicap in 2 months, I hit it further straighter and more consistent. Once you sort your distances out with them. Even Rickie Fowler uses a game improvement 4 iron as a driving iron.
What about putting these up against last year's F9 Speedback irons? I've enjoyed (somewhat surprisingly due to the size/shape) gaming the F9s in getting down into single digits, but I'm also a pretty high-spin player, so the F9 helped tame that, somewhat.
I played Cobra for a couple years but I've gone to Taylormade P790's. I hate to be the negative one here but I think they look a little cheesy. So many gadgets and diff colors. Hope they work for some mid to high handicappers. Great video, thanks.
I like the tech. Very well thought out. We've lost sight of helping golfers. Blinded by distance. It's false to call a 7 Iron a PW, we have 8 Iron loft on 7 Iron bounce labeled "PW" for what other reason than to say, "My PW goes X distance?" A 7 Iron has 7° of bounce. A 9 Iron 9°. We need those skid plates, especially those who have trouble with contact. Which is where this club is marketed? And those of us who practice regularly and make good contact, we need those bounces for varying lie and conditions. It isn't always dry, 72°, and semi ruff on the golf course. Mid to high handicappers would be better served with the wide camber sole clubs "Lunchers" as they're now marketed. And no one should buy these at all. They look like a toy and are not suitable for beginner play.
Nice job James. High handicapper here and to be honest I wouldnt want to play those. Neither would I play the M6 or Sim irons etc. They just dont do anything for me visually and I hate the stronger and stronger lofts that we keep getting. Would much rather work on my strike and go for a better looking set of irons with nearer to traditional lofts. Ie. P790s, Wilson D7s or the Srixon Z-Forged.
As usual the Cobra irons are really ugly from behind - they feel the need to shout with extra large logo/name on the back but from the front they look fairly nice, not sure about the carbon strip at the top, will decide when in the flesh. I rather ignore the number at the bottom and look at loft (the 5i is about a 3.5i loft), but even taking that into account the spin rates are about a club's worth less than I would have expected (8i about what I get on my 6i). At this time of the year they should be playable on height and descent angles but in the summer on harder greens I have concerns. They we have to consider the gapping. There would need to be a fair amount of adjustment of lofts to make the set game-able and the problem with that is most club fitters will not have a full set for us to try before buying
Could you please do a video with the Arccos system? I’ve always been curious about them but have never tried it. I actually game a Cobra F9 3wd but I had it re-gripped almost right away and forgot to ask for the AARCOS to be kept so I’ve never tried it! 🤗 These 🐍 irons look really really cool! I’m going to have to take a look at them some time just for fun.
Thanks for sharing. So if you have to choose between Cobra speed zone irons and Taylormade sim max irons, wich ones would you buy? Remember, yo need to choose 1 between those 2. Cheers and greetings from Mexico.
Not for me James, I'd be going with their Forge Tec irons. Pulling things a little left I see. You need to start exiting left after contact. Should straighten things up for you and add some distance. (like how I did that)
Great vid James. Nah for me. Big and gimmicky with silly spin and yardage numbers. Good set for a senior maybe but anyone looking to improve there is likely alot better out there. Enjoyed the review though.
the look is ok , looks kinda good but im not sure it can beat the taylormade p790 in terms of forgiving irons looks , my advice would be go for a player irons right of the bat, i made the mistake of buying forgiving irons and i ended up buying some ap2 1 year after , they did help my game even if im not what you call a low hdc player
Would be really good to see you Foxy and Mark have a full 18 hole game using the cobra connect wow you could get a weeks content out of that 🏌️♀️⛳🏌️♂️
Great content james, but may I ask why you talk about total distance? We want to know about carry, it's good hitting it far but it could roll out 40 yards but that rolling out 40 yards could be water you've hit
Let's see Mark, Foxy, and your Dad test them, since they're the target customer. Also, yes, show us the Cobra connect system please. I know the theory, but never seen it really used.
Great vlog James! Like Cobra irons but not a fan of that top line. May look better in person. That lofting is crazy strong too - go for miles but cannot hold a green.
I have paused that at 1:16 just to let you know with that I am being fitted in February and funny enough our pro shop is getting Cobra in this should be interesting 🧐 with that in mind will post another message at the end of 14minutes lol 😂
I traded my cobra forged tec in for these couldn't get on with the tec at all. These are outstanding feel, distance and looks behind the ball are spot on. I'm off 6 so even low handicap players could use these 👌
What annoys me about a 21 degree 5 iron is that the 1 iron (if it were to be made) would have to be about 7 degrees, therefore the numbering isn’t legit.
I have the sz driver just came across these irons on the cobra website can’t believe how inexpensive they are compared to the other brands yet they out perform a lot of the other brands also
Great review James! I'm a really big fan of Cobra irons and have been looking forward to this review. I'd love to see you take these clubs out and play 18 with them using Arccos. I hope they sent the putter sensor, too. I personally game Arccos and love the data they present. Keep it up!
Yes mate use these in the course with the cobra connect. I’m intrigued. Thinking about getting these as a mid to high handicapper. I tested them out along with a few others and although these going in was not at the top of my list I come out with more interest in these than all others I tried.
Exactly why I had to change from F8 irons soon after getting them, great irons but occasional shots going 10+ yards further than expected and guaranteed flyers from rough lies! Hit a 180 yard PW downwind out of semi rough once, thought I'd be fine playing for a slight flyer to pin 160 away as stick PW was 140 but nope airmailed green and hit the clubhouse 🙈🤦🏻♂️😂
