COBRA SPEEDZONE IRONS Cobra's new Speedzone irons promise ultimate forgiveness, distance and feel. Sounds almost like the perfect game improvement iron, let's see what Ali thinks.
I got fitted for these clubs today at 2nd swing. I also hit ping G 410 irons. I went in expecting to just buy the G410 irons. IAM a13 handicap and 68 years old. The Cobra speed zone irons much better for me. They were softer, longer by far, straighter, and made this mid handicapper feel 20 years younger. The best feeling iron I have ever hit.Try it for yourself!
Ali i traded my cobra forged tec in for these couldn't get on with the tec at all. These are outstanding distance, feel and look down by the ball these are spot on. I play off 6 at 50 yrs old so even low handicap players can use these.
Happy New Year! I just got the KING Forged Tec irons in the one-length. Love the soft feel...similar to the p790 I left. Still a work in progress getting a "mentally" comfortable setup on short irons but the longer irons have a much narrow dispersion and are a better fit for me. Better approach shots as a result. It's not all about distance.
I've watched a lot of club review videos over the last few years, and those are some of the sweetest sounding irons I've ever heard, especially for a game improvement iron.
Interesting that you are talking about lack of spin with these, Ali I have just moved from a Lynx package set to a set of Cobra F-Max Airspeed Irons. I have gained 15 yards per club. The reason the guy put me on to those clubs at my fitting was because I was generating too much spin, and losing distance. The degree of loft is about 4 degrees per club less from what I originally had. Maybe the less spin is a Cobra thing , then.
I have mixed feelings about these irons. As was the last couple of sets of Cobra irons from the back they look cheap - that large name/logo on the back just screams Sports Direct to me. The carbon in fill top line though is an interesting idea and from the front they do look nice. Then there are the lofts, the 7i is only a degree weaker than my 5i. For players with average swing speeds (say around 75 mph with a 7i) I am not convinced that the 5i will be a functional club particularly in the summer. Add in the issues with gapping, as other YT reviewers have also pointed out as a problem, this becomes a problem. Completely agree with Ali, this is a set of irons where you buy 7i-PW and then when the set arrives do a full gap test and have the lofts adjusted.
I just tried these in my local golf shop and was amazed at the distance I got. I didn't buy the set but came home and compared them to my current Callaway blades, and guess what.........the loft on this 7 iron (27.5 degrees) is between my current 4 & 5 iron! The 5 iron at 21 degrees, is almost the same loft as my existing 3 iron, which sits at 22 degrees. So in a nutshell, it's not so amazing a club in distance and feel. With a similar loft, I actually hit my blades further, and have more feel to boot! I think too many people are amazed by the distance they get from these clubs, but hey, it's actually all about the loft. Do your comparisons carefully before you part with your hard-earned money for these "not so amazing" clubs!
I dont completely understand why people are so put off by lofts being lower. If you hit a 7 iron and it flies 7 iron height and spins at 7 iron spin...goes 15 yards further than your normal 7 iron, then why do you care what the actual loft is??? My understanding is the CG is so low that if they had traditional lofts in this club you would hit a 7 iron as high and with as much spin as a PW which you wouldn't want. So for me if you give me a 7 iron and it flies and spins like a 7 iron I could give a hoot if the loft is 10 degrees or 40 degrees as long as it flies and spins like a 7 iron should and the same for the rest of the clubs.
to be fair when you went easy your swing speed dropped to what should have been a senior shaft....109 carry 7 iron is a punch shot..hard to look at numbers with a senior swing stiff shaft....
as he said----'' game improvement " well, why wouldn't you want, or why wouldn't every iron manufacturers design irons- ALL be game improvement? that anecdote is misplaced, misleading and means nothing or would you rather purchase an iron that game deteriorative?
