Use a cordless drill with a brass wire wheel instead of a Dremel. For one, you simply don't need the speed or power of a rotary tool to remove surface rust, and secondly you can run a much larger wheel to cover more area quicker. Another benefit is that longer wire is softer, the little wheel at high speed could remove more material than desired. I use as soft a wheel as I can and it cleans up anything.

Your correct in pre-filling a new oil filter, instant oil pressure on cold start up, OEM filters are the way to go ... I've used hundreds of 303 K&N filters, never seen one fail, hand tighten with a nip from a rubber filter strap, welded nut is for lock wiring & removal only ... For those VFR owners that aren't aware, when u delete the Flapper valve & "PAIR" u can totally remove all the pipework, elec pair valve under left front airbox, plenum canister under right front airbox, elec solenoid near to it, all u need to do is cap off Pair valve inlet in left front lower airbox & seal off the Vac hose that feeds it all from the right side of throttle body, an M5 bolt works a treat or a plastic screw from a lower fairing clips if you've any spare... also leave the snorkel well alone, it'll run better on a cold air intake, does nothing but increase intake roar if removed, it actually kills a couple of bhp if removed ... soak fuel pump assembly & level float assembly in white vinegar, all rust will disappear overnight, good for shifting rust inside tank too... new fuel pump gasket every time, they're so cheap, why risk a leak, u way over tightened pump base plate, use hand tools not a power tool.

Hi there,love your VFR updates...if i had this fuel tank problem, i would definitely bring it to a specialized shop for radiators and tanks to restore it and thus, protect your gaz pomp and injectors/carbs. Also, since the VFR runs hot, fins on both radiators should be thoroughly cleaned, again if too much gummy, the same radiator shop could restore the coolant rad as new if the fins are healthy...another trick, disconnect the coolant rad and soake it in 100% CLR cleaner and leave it overnight,it works wonders, trust me. Well best of luck my friend with this wonderful project of yours and thanks again for keeping us updated. 👍🙏

VFR’s with the side mount radiators are all prone to run hot. Best solution is to change the fan with a VTR 1000 superhawk fan. Changes the direction of the airflow

The fuel level sender does have a built in delay, probably to stop it having sporadic readings when riding up inclines and stuff, mine has a delay from being on side stand to sitting on the bike of maybe 10 or more seconds before it displays the proper level of fuel

Please check the hydraulic Clutch, especially the piston. Otherwise your clutch will not go properly and your clutch will burn out. My old Lady (VFR 1993) had this issue. It is easy to remove the dirt on the hydraulic piston and it is cheaper as changing the hole clutch. Love to see you bringing the vfr back to life. Greeting from Germany 😁 Auf Wiedersehen!

GREAT JOB at cleaning that airbox and turn-signal!!! Those look like their working again at peak performance!!! Well done. As for that K&N oil filter,I've bought and used that SAME EXACT K&N filter (I even use the same model-number #303!) for years and the MAIN PURPOSE of that nut on the end,is to help "REMOVE" a stuck and/or seized oil-filter!!! NOT put it ON the bike! ANY oil-filter (regardless of it being an auto/truck/motorcycle,etc.) should ONLY need to be "hand-tightened" only! Of course,trying to REMOVE a stuck on filter is more of a task,so YES.........that is what that "nut" is there for! Afterall,who cares if the filter leaks AFTER you remove it from the bike? Lol. Great Video Man!!! : >)

Been running Rotella in my 99 R1 for the last 30K miles. I love the stuff. Mine likes the 15w 40, the 5w 40 makes the transmission too notchy. Love this VFR and I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out. Thanks!

i only use the k&n nut when im taking one of those off. i can always get the filters on good enough hand tight. I just make small corresponding marks on the fillter and on the bike so i can me sure it hasnt moved.

Nice progress. I do ALL my motos maintenance and know how frustrating it is, when a gasket/bolt/filter/pump/switch is not working or fails. The wait is as bad as the failure. :-)

If you get a new fairing bolt kit can you make sure to recommend what you use. I'm very tempted to replace all the fairing bolts on my 99 VFR, whatever this go for would be good enough for me

Hello, I still have a VFR800fi I rescued some 16 yrs ago probably a bit better than yours after 4 years outside unused. Great to see a bike being brought back to life. I use mine only rarely, I have had a few of these over many years, terrific bikes. Sad to see such a fine machine reduced to an unused existance and poor condition..... deserves a new life. When its done you are going to love it, the v4 is pure class, especially these older fi models. Good luck 👍

@8:24 the previous owner couldn't even be arsed to install the half shell bracket for the clutch master cylinder mount with the arrow and the UP word facing up. That tells me all I need to know about the care it received during his ownership.

Good job! I recommissioned a 4th gen (in metalic blue) last year. But it was in 'mint' condition compared to yours 😊. Oil is an interesting subject for heated debates. I do use motorcycle specific oils on my bikes. Expensive? yes. Is it better? no idea... But I like good food, so my bikes are entitled to the same. Also always use premium petrol. However, in 55+ years of changing oil on cars and bikes I never filled up the filter before mounting it...

Make sure you solve the dreaded ground block issue. Its not on any wiring diagram. It’s wrapped up in the harness under the rear fairing, you’ll see a bulging rectangle and when you remove the electrical tape it’lI be in an orange block. I recommend soldering all the points together onto an 8 gauge wire to a good ground point. You can do your own research on what other people have done to solve this issue.

Check the Starter Solenoid Connector. Those things can corrode and have issues. Honda runs the charging current through them too, so if they go bad, the entire bike won't charge.

Oil filters should be hand tight. Not sure why you would us a wrench tightening an oil filter. But as a rule, I don't use KN filter.
@Flatule
@Flatule 9 месяцев назад
About overheating. You probably know every VFR run hot. I run Evans high performance coolant in mine. It doesnt run less hot but it boils at at 190c (375f) so your shit wont blow up. I also have a Spal pusher fan. Since its a pusher, put a grill for rocks. Also you can cram a small Spal computer fan on the right side. Rc51 oil cooler is twice as big and direct bolt on with some pipe bending. All this with a with a lower temp fan switch and you shouldn't fear traffic.
@Flatule
@Flatule 9 месяцев назад
Oh and since the fan switch is at the top of the rad,. If you have a coolant leak, the heat wont reach the switch and the fan(s) wont start.
@ShutterUp
@ShutterUp 9 месяцев назад
My FJR1300 does NOT like Rotella, outside of that bike, I use it on the others. These bikes run hot especially with the side mounted radiators. If you stop, the heat will rise quickly. I installed a fan switch when I first got mine, now I rarely ever use it. In traffic it will go to 215F quickly and the fan will kick on. 220-225F isn't rare but I wouldn't want to see it go much if any higher.

@@mikaelkanerva1591 Unlike most car oils, Rotella doesn't have friction modifiers, which tend to ruin the wet clutches many bikes use. I run Rotella T6 15W-40 in my '07 VFR800, used to run it in my '07 ZX-10R years back too, no complaints or issues.

"Hose' down the rusty parts w/ WD40 or other brand....let stand over night...offers better results .. NOW regarding the K&N... you oversaturated it..by A LOT .. in fact we don't use ANY filter 'oil' .... which is a money maker for K&N...which is why it comes in a 'kit" so they can charge you more give the filter a good degrease, let air dry.. Install... We run dry filters on our Carpenter Racing installed 245hp and 265hp kitted Rocket IIIs and make huge HP on the dyno w/pod filters.. In fact from dirty to clean filters, NO filter oil, 20 hp + can be gained.. Now this is a kitted 2300cc triple mill.. not a VFR in which has a very restricted air box .. regardless.. it will run and sound better sans filter oil....no worries about filtering particles .. if you are, go look at a Sprint filter ..

Lol just remove the filter altogether then. K&N don't filter anywhere close as good as oem stuff, not even when oiled

Because it was apparently sitting at the bottom of the ocean, I would be very skeptical of things like: Wheel bearings, Master cylinder seals, those calipers. Things that can seize or fail under stress. 🥷
