The gold standard supercar owner. One that doesn’t pose, who knows how to drive at a truly competent level, and being able to interpret what the chassis is actually doing at a greater depth.
Most of the time when I see some of the creators I follow, upload long videos I shy away from watching them! I tend to lean more towards the 10min ones, as I feel i can watch 4 to 5 in a row then just one long one... One thnig that stands out with you and Misha, Robert is that you guys are down to earth and genuine. And are two nice guys who have passion and love what they do. I was actually going to start this and skip along, but instead I watched from beginning to the end and enjoyed the conversation! One day I will visit the Ring, and hopefully pop in and say hello. I challenge myself and see if I can squeeze a coctail out of you or a few pancakes out of Misha! Look forward to the Lusso! Love the content And finally subscibed! Was watching your vids off the back of Misha's channel!
You need to try click bait titles like “I sold me Ferrari Pista for a new black Series!?” Or “I sold me Ferrari Pista for a new VW Golf, WTF!?” The ! Combined with a ? Make it ok as it’s a statement and question or maybe neither.
@@RobertMitchell love it. Negativity sell on RU-vid. Stuff like “I made a huge mistake” or “I crashed my car” and losing money. You will be as big is Shmee one day and I can say I was there from the beginning.
Me saying I enjoyed it is an understatement, no need for screaming like a child and 20K production cameras like some of the "tier 1" media lolz. A chat like this is more than enough.
@@RobertMitchell Dont start selling those Manscaped.com grooming kits . We europeans use the non contract cheap ones from lidl / aldi. Those also keep the spaghetti balls in shape.😁
Excellent video, Robert! I truly enjoyed listening to your thorough explanations for the questions that were asked. I was particularly intrigued with how the 488's handling characteristics were dramatically changed after you had it's alignment specs reconfigured. From too much understeer to slight oversteer just from changing the alignment is amazing to me.
Happy Thanksgiving! Appreciate you taking the time to make the video. I usually click for the curiosity and stay for the clearly savvy commentary on the various subjects. I do get what you're saying about "having too many cars" and not focusing on fixing things. There is a threshold. For me it's apparently 2, lol. Motivation to get back in the garage though once the food coma has passed.
Great recap and love how honest you are about everything. I think Ferrari PR team would also be happy with most of this video. Apart from where you trash the alignment!
If you read Ferrari’s reports you find most mid-engined V8 owners don’t track their cars. It’s the buyers of the V12’s that are track drivers. Hence why a TDF is a real handful because it was designed at Ferrari owners who can actually drive. Ferrari said they could’ve made the Pista even faster but sacrificed a few tenths to make it accessible for a lot of owners to go drive in places like London.
Thank you very much for your insight into the ownership of the Pista and the rest of your fleet, Robert. You are not wrong that such an analytical approach selecting the model, recognizing the enjoyment experienced and then understanding when it is time to liquidate the asset can be applied to automotive purchases and many other things in life. What a refreshing perspective. As an aside, I just picked up a stretch car for my budget, but one which has a decent residual value on the used market. I suspect that it won't be in my fleet forever -- depending on life circumstances -- but I know that I'll enjoy the hell out of caring for vehicle and truly relish the driving experience with capital to re-allocate when it is sold. Cheers from the States!
Imma definitely try that side car drink, it sounds fire. Never knew some good cocktail recipes could come from a (primarily) car you tuber but I love it :) Also what do you think about getting a F12/812? I think those would possibly be good content.
@@RobertMitchell also I really appreciate you for making the chapters, I watch the vids through fully but it’s so nice if I want to go back to a question.
Love the video and a user perspective on the different brands. Great shout out for loyalty to a dealership that takes care of you and building an old fashioned relationship. Great insight to cost of ownership on each brand and how the approach to modification or preservation of original looks is actually affected by the brand. Your videos affect how I look at the use of each car and how someday I may own one. Thank You and Happy Thanksgiving!
For people wondering about race car running costs, according to an article on dailysportscar it would probably cost around €600 per lap EXCLUDING fuel and tyres for a proper GT3 car (based on €200 for an outlap at Silverstone)
Sad to see you bid farewell to the Pista although happy to see you embracing the GTC4 Lusso (hopefully V12 version); I happen to own both and would find it hard to sell either...I've decided to ignore the residuals (GTC Lusso in particular) and continue to simply enjoy the rides!
A Chevrolet SS (Holden VF commodore) would be a pretty good value as a ring taxi. Like the videos dude, I head to the ring for testing regularly. OEMs will typically dial in the chassis to understeer for safety reasons. You will also find that upper end priced cars will tend to understeer more than mid price vehicles.
Thanks Robert for a great video and for answering all those fantastic questions including mine. Good work to everyone for asking all the really good questions, can’t wait to see what comes up next time! Keep up the good work, love what apex is, hopefully can visit next year and buy you guys a beer!
Hey, really good video, watched it all the way through. Small suggestion, maybe it could be cool to add small pics whenever you talk about a certain car...🤷♀️
Don't get me wrong. I like to see you race around the track 😎 But videos like this when you (or Misha ect.) not are on the track, but making videoes like "driving fast in slow cars" and "food delivery" videos just bring back the memories for us that not live at the ring, but it's our second home when we travel there on vacations. Just nice to see some "regular Nürburg stuff" and chat videoes. Keep up the good work. And thanks to you and the Apex team 👍🙂
being honest is the best reputation for every one of us , this make you want to hear from that person and make you trust him when he is sharing his experience because of that this video can flow easily and this was a really cool video. tbh it challenged a lots of my thought on these cars. thanks i hope you keep this format.
From north of Chicago great Video Robert! I agree having fewer that you drive a lot and really get to know is best. I added winters to my GT4 so I can enjoy some b-road exploration over the winter here. Been a blast and really learning a lot about the chassis and grip limits. Hope to drive the ring with Apex someday soon. Stay Healthy!
Insight after insight, again a good one, Robert. No problem for it to be this long of a video. Just serve Stamp a drink next time haha But on a serious note: the things you mention in the end, what motivates you to keep on doing these things even on thanksgiving, those are the exact things I’m here. To learn about cars and in the meantime how to create progress for myself or be thoughtful of those around me. Onwards and upwards, thank you!
Hi Robert, I think this had been my favourite video of yours so far, but your channel is generally my favourite to watch on RU-vid. Quick question and apologies if you have answered this already in this video or another, but when you do your setups of the cars from Factory are they tuned to the ring or a more general track like setup?
Robert, As always Awesome content! Stay true to you; we really appreciate your candor and insights. I am looking forward to the day when I can make it to the Nürburgring. In the meantime, I will have to enjoy the content from you and Misha and the Apex family. Many thanks
@@RobertMitchell just saw it and loved it. Keep ‘em coming. Also, looking forward to receiving my calendar. So sorry I will not be getting one of the signed copies. I was just too slow to contact the office. Diana did send a response immediately. I feel like I know the team based on yours and Misha’s videos. They all seem like incredible individuals.
Robert - great content, very much enjoyed it. While not a track driver, I love my Pista - I think it is one of the best looking modern Ferrari’s. I have a 720s Spider currently as well and have had a 720s Coupe and 675LT Spider, I will say for me, the Italian cars seem to capture an emotional excitement that just isn’t there with the McLaren’s. You’re point of the new car craze and chasing the latest and greatest is so true once you’ve had multiple cars. By the time your newest shiny toy is being delivered it seems like the manufactures have already unveiled the next one. Ferrari in particularly seems to have sped up their unveiling’s, we don’t even have SF90 Coupe deliveries yet in the US and they have already unveiled the Spider. Any thoughts on the SF90 by the way? As an aside, I think your 458 recommendation is a good choice - I believe Ferrari started the free maintenance on all 2012 cars and newer. Best Regards.
Thanks for the drink tip, Cointreau is so cheap here compared to USA, I always have it on hand for margeritas, and now have another drink in the lineup.
Thank you Robert for the video! Very informative and down to earth. I enjoy it when you and Misha just sit and speak naturally to us. Good job, you guys are a lot of fun!
Hi robert, as always super interesting video, without a doubt one of the most beautiful cars this Pista in my opinion. And another comment that i want to tell you totally apart from the video. I noticed that your bicycle have the gearshift with a little bit of tension because is not in the smallest gear and it’s very recommendable to put your chain in the smallest gear when you store it to avoid issues in the gearshift, (the reason to do this is to remove tension of the internal components). Have a nice day!
What you said about the running costs and value depreciation of a race car vs. a road legal supercar was quite interesting (488 Challenge vs. 488 Pista). I was wondering the same thing for GT3 Cup vs. GT3 RS. While I suppose Porsche is less expensive than Ferrari in general, the differences you mentioned probably still apply.
Thanks, not too long at all, because it was entertaining and informative at the same time. The cocktail isn’t for me, but that’s OK. Wishing you and yours a happy Thanksgiving.
Yep, only took one video to appreciate that you are capable of having nuanced opinions and keep an open mind, should teach folks how to be a gentleman. Respect and love from USA
Back when I was a pennyless student I used to change the oil on my beloved Opel on 2500km. Everybody though I was not smart for doing it. You sir managed to surpass me in oil changes.
I’m in college right now studying software engineering and watching videos like this make working my ass off 100+ hours a week worth it. I can’t wait to finally achieve the goal of getting into my first super car, thanks for your content, makes it all the more exciting.
Hey Robert, little off topic but how do you feel about Jackie Ding (a A90 Supra Global time attack driver) statement about the A90 Supra bump steer issue? Really curious because it seems like in North America, A90 Supras are doing really well for Time Attack and I can’t see why people can’t do the same for other racing series.
Hi Robert , really enjoyed this blog, very interesting comments and insight , McLaren are charging 3.5k for the first service on my 600LT 🤨 fairly pricy compared to what you seam to be paying in Europe.
Super interesting, thanks for these kind of videos. Would you enjoy other tracks, or is the Nurburgring, lay out, length, other drivers beyond compare, and does that differ with TF and trackday sessions?
Great video - loved it. Was considering buying such cars but I want to drive it so fuel costs are important. How does McLaren compare to GT3 FS and Ferrari?
Porsche really is genius for making that front splitter out of plastic.. When I see people hitting the track with their fancy CF splitters, I'm like uhhh good luck
Thank you Robert, solid move to actively seek interaction, much to learn and always, good times. I am looking forward to the upcoming arrivals, upon which I have to ask, how about a new rental car garage addition in 2021, that is a bit 'the odd one out', let's say a Weismann or a Donkervoort.
The last few words that you said increased my respect for you even more. Lots of love and respect from India. I hope someday when I'm able I will have some talks with you at apex and have a taxi ride too.
That was a great video, plenty of useful insights and information. I have a question that's been nagging me for a while now. Why did chose a Cayman over a Lotus for Apex?
I can not buy a Pista or GT2 RS (hopes never die), but at least now I can prepare myself a coctail!!👍 Great! Beside that, thanks for your review on cars and ownership!!! When cooming out of your mouth it seems so logical and some dilemas are cleared in a moment!! 👍👍👌👌. Thanks for sharing (not only the coctail recipe). 😎
A buddy bought a slightly Porsche GT3 RS about 1,5 years ago. He ended up selling it after owning it for about 9 months and lost over $15K. He will never buy another Porsche. He ended up replacing the Porsche with an ‘05 Ford GT. He previously owned a C6 ZR1 Vette and a Ferrari 458.
And what’s funny is that 15k in 9 months is a very small loss on these cars. I would consider that a reasonable value retention. If he bought at the right time w a 3RS he could have actually made money.
@@RobertMitchell - Yeah, he clearly bought at the wrong time. He says he misses the Ferrari. Problem with the Ferrari was that he likes to drive his cars and Ferrari drivers tend not to drive their cars much due to loss of value mileage costs. He had always wanted the Ford GT so now he has what he wanted.
Am I right Robert, to think you're saying to all the pista questions every time you think of the memories and glance at your picture on the wall. You fist pump the air and smile while screaming Winner Winner Chicken Dinner?
Robert. If one of your thoughts behind selling the Pista was the prospect of an F8 VS, I hate to be the bringer of bad news. There will not be an F8 VS. The Pista represents the VS car for both the 488 and F8. I just traded my Pista Spider w. 12k km on it for a zero km Pista coupè. Got the Pista w. CF wheels for 15k Euro under sticker, but got 504k Euro for the Pista Spider. If one ever wants to think about value of a Ferrari as a car that will retain some value, not only should one only look at VS cars, but they need to be Spiders/Apertas. Will be interesting to see how well the 812GTS holds value and same for the SF90 Stradale. Hope to see you back with a Ferrari sports car some day. I love my Lusso as my daily, but it is nkt like the Sports line cars. Keep up the good work Robert.
ah the age old question of what comes next from Ferrari:). we shall certainly see soon and I have my hopes for a f8 VS. I did not particularly sell in hopes of one was just done with the car. 100% the open top Ferrari hold the most value. they're the car I want the least however so I stick around w the coupe. I am certain ill have a new Ferrari soon, I just dont like not having one..
@@RobertMitchell Very true. I chose to sell the Spider because I ould not get harnesses in it, not for value. I'm sure I will quickly have a high mileage Pista with a massive depreciation lol. Like you I don't collect, I drive. I think the SF90 will be interesting to follow. I was asked a while back if I wanted to change my allocation to a Spider. I actually declined, despite not having opted for the AF pack in my coupè. Due to the nature of the SF90 it does not have the room the be a good GT like an F8 Spider, so it's a car that is more of a road going toy. For the first time in a while, I'm more interested in the coupè so sticking with that. Talking to a lot of my fellow owners on Ferrarichat and elsewhere, it seems a bit like the SF90 Spider may not for once have as massive an impact on the coupè market as is normally the case. This is of course due to the fact that Ferrari will produce about 1000 of each. There will not be the same massive difference in production numbers there normally are. Regarding the F8 VS. Well, it us true that we never know for sure. But I'm willing to stake a 2010 Pingus on this one. I can't disclose why and how I know, but I know the detailed development history of the F8 in great detail, and unlike the normal M designation, the F8 was in fact ALSO labelled VS. It was basically a car done because of the 720S and it was never scheduled. Marcel Massini alsk backs this up if you ask him. The F8 is essentially a 488 VS "light", not a 488 Modificante or Evo. They are focused on the LB V6 now for the mid engined range, and next year we will see the 812 VS, which unlike the GTO and TdF will not be limited. Low volume yes, numbered? Nope. Times have changed. Where do you see yourself going after the Pista? I know you have the Lusso plans, but was thinking mid engined. SF90 AF?
