For those, like me, who were hoping for a tab...this may help; I've gotten most of what he's playing (most chords are partial, just top 3 or 4 strings) - Intro is a vamp around a C-shape F# Major chord. The root note changes from an F#, to Eb, to B (D string, 9th fret). That climb up is F# (D-shape) | Bbmin | B | Db - Verse is Db, to Ebmin7 - Pre-Chorus chords are B (7th fret shape) | Ebmin7 | Db | B (2nd fret shape) [...you'll work out the sequencing...] - "When the night falls" is B | Ebmin7 | full open barre at 6th - Chorus same as intro - Middle vamp chords are Ebmin7 | Db | Abmin | Bbmin - Key change just pushes up all chorus chords by one whole step (two frets) - He adds a few double stop fills in, plus a couple of licks That's it! :)
Hi all - A few people asked about tabs. I don't use tabs really. I used the sheet music for this tune and adapted it around position 6. That's what it sounds like to me on the record. When playing tunes like this in a band, you definitely don't want to be playing big booming chords. Especially when competing with keys and horns. Comp the triads. A chord just using a few strings is still a chord. Keep it funky. Good luck!
I have to learn this song and there's no way I'm going to enjoy playing this as much as you. Great version. Best I've found, but man I wish I didn't have to learn this song.
Thank you! Really appreciate the compliment. BTW - I felt the same way when I had to learn it. It was a bit of pain. But now I really enjoy playing it. Good luck with it.
Fantastic! I tried to copy you but it sounds horrible. Are you using a different tuning? Any other settings or tips? Thanks, this looks like so much fun to play :)
