🆕 JOIN The Cool-op to get the inside scoop on the next Scene Remixes, talk The Wire, and/or just stay up with what's happening on this channel! discord.gg/AcABuQedxq 👀 What do you all think? After I showed you I can be like Tommy Wiseau with how I edited McNulty and Kima talking to Omar in the cemetery, I thought I'd earn respect back from The Streets by doing a concise Scene Remix ending with the scene of Slim Charles' most legendary line if not one of the most legendary. RU-vid prevented me from including more than an extra 4 minutes of content on this video so I had to trim it down by removing the scene of Avon and Stringer discussing what to do after both saw Marlo's street presence, and I will try to do an extended cut removing enough material to avoid the censor or just put it on another site entirely.
@@Surgeon806 If the Barksdale organization was a mafia, Stringer was supposed to be the consigliere, the number 2 in the group. He's not supposed to the King, or a potential threat to the throne. Stringer would've been successful if he only focused on keeping the group operating, instead of trying to innovate.
@wesleywallace4426 That's what a number 2 should be doing. If you want a yes man, hire a soldier like Slim. Avon ruined his e entire organization not listening to stringer who was right about everything he said. He may have gotten robbed by Clay, but that's part of the game. The streets is temporary and has no future!
@@wesleywallace4426 But Michael Corleone wanted to innovate. Remember, he talked about in 5 years most of their businesses would be legit. Joining the co-op was a smart move.
They were already short Bird, Bey, and I think Savino was already locked up or soon to be. Avon really didnt have any muscle or any business starting up any wars.
The names in themselves are funny then there’s Avon’s reaction and Slim’s delivery 😂 Oz has a similar scene where Adibisi is interrogating DANIELS of all people and asking him about number of gangster’s names to see if he’s a police informant or not (I won’t spoil it 😉)
@@100barbelve nobody, to King, and back to nobody when those two corner kids at the end of the show didn’t know him, then probably back to King when he takes the streets back
At this point Stringer down deep in his heart knew that his grand plan to get Avon to see beyond the corners was not going to work. He should have taken Avon out now. Don’t wait.
Congratulations to Shorty Boyd for turning his life around. Maybe that's who Ice Cube and the Lench Mob were talking about when they said "shorty joined the Nation and he don't drink no more".
Reminds me of Chris trying not to let Marlo know about Omar talking shit. Stringer knows yhat Avon's obsession with the street shit is only going to set them back
I just noticed something about this scene's direction. It wasn't a 2-shot because both men are big. But since Slim is so gigantic, the only way to communicate Avon's higher position was to sit Charles down and put Avon in a bright colored shirt. This show was magnificent. Each episode was a feature film. I mean I hate that it had so many Black people killing each other. But that's life, I suppose.
This is like a street chess with Avon going to get his corners back against Marlo with only just 2 Knights, one pawn to scout and a Queen with restricted moves. He almost won in the end but Avon lost by the time to be caught by the police just like force resigning because of the chess clock.
The scene with Rumble Tumble Slim talking about how he couldnt get any of the OGs to work as muscle for them is one of my favorites, so I'm gonna watch again here, and then leave this comment, on a Sunday morning...
@@k33p1tc00lhad cutty killed fruit the entire show literally changes. Bodie lives, McNulty doesn’t go back to MC, Randy isn’t labeled a snitch and thrown back into the group home, little Kevin lives, Marlo, Chris & them don’t get locked up and Snoop doesn’t die
No at the moment he look stupid because these corners don't match what Stringer was telling him while he was Locked up. Stringer is all Cap! And his ish caught up with him, not just bro and O. The Avon and D and his Ex. He had to go.
Them corners was givin in a package deal string should’ve just said something he was in control while Avon was gone that’s how they survived and made more money i dont think Avon would’ve had a problem with that but he think yall gone ran off the corner by a pup who wouldn’t go to war after that
Plot twist: none of those guys ever existed. Bell and Slim Charles invented them ALL and put them on the payroll to get the money. Their whole "muscles" was the guys in the room and Cutty.
This just goes to show how little knowledge Stringer had outside of simple manipulation and Avon had outside of being a "street soldier." A simple history lesson would have shown them both (especially String) that in war, you need ALL your generals and troops on the same page. The minute Bodie and those guys started questioning why Stringer would say one thing and Avon would order another was the beginning of the end. Simply put, Marlo and Prop Joe didn't have a number 2 problem. When Joe finally did with Cheese, he was gone smh.
Evidently, it was mispronounced. Most of the people on that list are actual, street dudes of some capacity. But I'm told that it's actually "Shorty Boyce". I believe in the scene when Charles popped Cheese in his melon. He's the 1 who said, "this sentimental motherfucker just cost me money". That scans because whoever that is would definitely be described as extremely short. Anyway, he didn't exactly clean his whole ack up. He did, however, retired from wire. He saved some money from the street life and started a career as a professional gambler. I think he died 2-3yrs ago. That's the lore from what I gather. I have a friend who's from B-More so most of that checks out. I've done some amateur internet sleuthing to find out what was what. As you already know, The Wire was written by David Simon, an ex-police officer. The character "Prez" is based on Simon's homie, Ed Burns. I'm told that Eggy Mule (Edgar Meuller) was an Araber. I still don't understand exactly what that means but from what I've pieced together, it's guy who peddles fruit from a cart. Evidently, that gave him autonomy to move in the streets and stay relatively undetected by detectives. This all came from my trying to find out about who the hell Eggy Mule is. I think the name sounds cool.
Avon - "So that's it.. no leeway, no compromise?" Eggy - "You want compromise? How's this.. Five years in the can. I wanted Lake Trout. I compromised. I ate Tuna Surprise from the prison cafeteria."
Somebody help me understand. Was Avon and stringer equal partners or Avon was higher. I certain Avon wasn’t lower though but other than that I’m confused
In season 1, Avon was the boss, and Bell was the underboss. Much like Junior and Anthony Soprano. And like in The Sopranos, when the boss gets put in jail/house arrest, the underboss assumes all power and responsibilities. So by season 3, Stringer is the street boss in command, but Avon still has power to call shots. I believe that's one reason why Avon allowed the stringer bell hit at the end.
Avon was definitely in charge. Stringer was his number two. That's why Stringer tried to run his little coup when Avon went in. If they were partners, wouldn't need to cheat hin
It always seemed like Avon was number 1 because he had the direct line to the supply, and even in the first season when D'angelo asked Stringer if his uncle approved him being moved out of the towers...but I think not only were Avon and Bell close, but Avon was aware that at times he needed Stringers "business" knowledge. Another time it's obvious is when stringer tries to get slim to kill the politician (I forget his name) and Avon basically shuts it right down
