Being a hockey goalie has been a dream of mine, ever since I was a little kid. I never played hockey as a child, and that's where I left that dream. But at 44 years old, I'm finally realizing that it's not how old you are when you start, it's just that you start. I may be too old to take a shot at the NHL, but that doesn't mean I can't strap on those pads and just go have some fun.

While this is all in good fun, there's something I want you to keep in mind. I'm pretty lucky, in that I got to play a lot of organized sports as a child, even if I never played hockey. There are families in our cities who simply can’t afford to enroll their kids in organized sports. Whether it’s the fees or the equipment costs, it’s sometimes just out of reach. That’s why organizations like KidSport are so important. Kids who qualify for their programs can get up to five hundred dollars per year to help offset those costs - that’s up two hundred dollars from just last year, and it’s the most KidSport Calgary & Area has ever been able to offer. They also give kids access to the Calgary Flames Sports Bank, which means they can get the equipment they need at no additional cost.
