An ICU nurse once spent 4 hours brushing my hair out when I woke from a coma as they were going to shave it, it took me a while to realise she probably should have been at home in those hours as there's no time for hair brushing in an ICU. I think about her all the time when I think the worlds a dark place, her kindness continues even 10 years after the act

Same here, I never would have considered that. It’s kind of fucked up that they show civilians that stuff. @gaaraxnaru

@amandaleighplans There is really no choice. Experts can be biased, so we need regular citizens who at least have lesser potential to be biased. It sucks. They SHOULD offer free therapy for jurors who feel they need it though. That'll never happen, though.

And thanks so much to you, good sir, for doing the integral, lifesaving work you do! Hope you seek help coping if ever you need it; a friend’s husband teaches EMTs and remains one now. Years back, I hired him to teach a first aid/CPR course to childcare workers and suddenly, while explaining why to do something one way vs another, he broke down in tears. Turns out he’d been unable to save a child and the technique he was teaching (using a device developed since her death years before) could have. To see this loving, funny, but 100% serious on the job guy sob really hit us all - what seeing gory, tragic, shocking things can do to a normally centred (the caller seemed pretty levelheaded) person. I have a friend who was our county prosecuting attorney for years. He had to try a case in which a child was brutally abused and died as a result. He had to try the case three times due to appeals. He said he had to look at things, talk about things, and show things to jurors that were unbelievable. I’m glad we had him in that position as prosecutor for a while, but there’s a reason he’s now in corporate law.

My husband was a juror on a murder trial, but strangely enough, the perp wasnt in jail! he had a court ID monitor collar on his leg, and he did appear at all require court/police appointments. He was being charged with murdering his father. After a morning of court testimonials, they broke for lunch. my hubby followed this perp along the sidewalk near the courthouse when he went to get some lunch, as did the perp. as my hubby walked a ways behind this guy, he observed his body language and the way he spoke to the food cart staff. really rude, in your face, its all about me, etc. My hubby commented later to me, this jerk was a real piece of work! At the trial, my hubby wanted to b jury foreman but a very young girl was elected instead. at the end of the jury session, for the vote, she covered her face and turned away. refused to conduct business. she was the only dissenter, all other jury members voted the dude guilty, she could not bring herself to even VOTE! my hubby informed the court clerk of this, so she was removed and another person came in, was informed of all the discussion and current vote, he was found guilty. My hubby found the whole process interesting, and did not shrink from doing his jury duty.

I was a jail deputy for almost a decade, including being a court deputy. I sat in on trials, and the kid cases were always the hardest. I had to sit there stone faced with a poker face hearing some of the darkest secrets during jury selection of all the horrible things that happened to potential jurors. It broke my heart for them hearing their stories about the worst that had happened to them that many of them had kept inside all those years. Then you'd sit through trials of all the horrible things that the defendants did. Oooh, him saying to write a letter hits hard. That brought some tears for sure. There is one particular case that the mother got 25 to life so if she ever comes up for parole, I will be there to testify to make sure she doesn't get out for what she did to her kid... sounds like I need to write some letters.

This year I was a juror in a murder trial and readily took the position because It was My Civic Duty. I repeated that so many times, proud to be chosen, but following the guilty verdict I questioned my right, being part of 12, to judge the defendant .... I witnessed a murder in 2019. Not a child and not anyone I knew. It haunted me for months, but eventually I was able to turn it "off" in my head - - or at least not playing in my mind until I fell asleep and immediately upon waking. The suspect was caught a short time after the murder, but here it is 2024 and the trial has been delayed again and again and again. So every year, I have to meet with the prosecutor to prepare for the trial and then at the last minute, the murder's lawyer who happens to be a state delegate, delays the trial until the next year. So every year, I have to pull out these memories and examine & discuss them in preparation for the trial that never seems to happen.....

I've learned to just say "yes, I would have a problem with that" when they are filtering out potential jurors with questions to see who should be excused because they wouldn't like something about the case. Sitting on a traffic case made me realize that nobody in that jury room operates under the reasonable doubt assumption and is just putting their own personal experiences into the case - "I've run 10 times as many stop signs as the 1 time I wrongly got pulled over for, so we're going to say she's guilty"

For some reason midway through this video I just started crying. I know this focus of this video was the murder and not her being a nurse but I am a nurse and lost a patient today. I knew she was in organ failure when I left this morning and she died later. She was 54, had metastatic cancer, and had been at home, her normal self, just a few days ago. Over 3 days I watched her slowly die in an obtunded state and her husband just stayed with her 24/7 occasionally tearing up and probably feeling so helpless. I didn’t feel like I was allowed to tell them that she might be dying. Doctors were still trying to find a cause of her sudden decline and I didn’t feel it was my place to suggest the worst. I usually leave work at work but this video reminded me to give a few moments for my feelings to be felt and I just cried for a while. Her husband is having the worst night of his life and I can’t imagine what it’s like.

Judges, clerks, bailiffs, and other court staff all sign up for that when we accept the job. Jurors do not sign up for any of that; they’re just doing their civil duty. Ideally, the judiciary would pay for the therapies (medicated and not) of jurors until they feel safe again. That’s the price the state can pay for putting its citizens through such hell.

@@trudykennedy2380 I am not belittling you at all! I loved all the doctors and nurses I worked around! I actually am agreeing with you ! As you suffer so goes your brothers and sisters in this environment ! I am retired and I found I remember things at thee oddest moment? I watched a little 8 yr old boy who was hungry , left alone (I found this out later) and he had a little change so he chanced crossing a very busy open hiway right in front of me as I drove up in my patrol car to turn! He was hit by a car and I watched it all? Sounded like a gun shot ? He flipped up in the air end over end, above the roof line? Then landing face down on the pavement? I just thought (I had two little ones) he is going to die alone? So I shoooed every one away , bending down next to him ; I stroked his hair saying “ it’s ok little man , it’s going to be ok”? Then he let out a breath and died! So I am not making fun of you! What I am saying is you hv a soul ! That soul was placed into you by Christ and he and he alone is the answer ! One day I will see that little man? And the little girl, and the other little girl, and I forget! Pls I apologize if I offended you! I hope you find peace ! I bet you’re a wonderful lady! God Bless!

I’m haunted by a trial I sat on. We convicted. He essentially got life. I second guess myself often. Did we do the right thing? Will this impact my ending when I meet my maker?

Can someone explain why the US has this system where random people have to participate? (maybe other countries do too, idk)
@PFM719

It's supposed to give the best odds of having a fair, impartial verdict, opposed to having it handed down by the state. Each potential juror is questioned in order to filter out anybody with any biases that may relate to the trial.

I been called to duty for the exact same reason. Matter a fact, twice. Both times i got with the judge and i couldn't continue it. Those were one of the reasons. I then got called for the 3rd time and denied going. Of course i had to write a note for the judge to excuse me. I hope she finds peace. Its not easy.

Remember the Detectives, first Responders, Forensics personal, ME dept, Justice dept, and all the people that have to see this stuff. I have worked with this, for 9 years and it has changed me. But I know 100% there is evil, but there is also good people fighting it. I know it's horrible for the victims, but God is there for them when they leave here. The hell is over for them. Good luck.

To finish ? No one told me I was not suppose to see that? Kidding aside ! I am sorry mam ! I found hope in Christ! He changed my life , took away all those dreams , and filled my heart with his joy and life! Each person has that moment or moments ! Then when you realize there was no evolution , no reason for life except creation ! Then you turn to Christ ! Stay focused on him! The rest is noise except his good things !

I’m a Canadian; are victim’s services units (in police departments, sheriff’s offices, through state or federal justice departments, etc.) not common in the US? These units are usually overwhelmed with too many hurting people and too few social workers, but most police departments here have them. Truly, I’d assumed jurors who adjudicated murder or other violent, gruesome cases were offered psychological help. It’s certainly deserved after 13 (don’t forget the alternate) everyday people devote sometimes months to a gut-wrenching crime - like the one the caller dealt with.

It depends on the state and the court. At a federal court level I'm not sure how it works.

The Bible speaks very strongly against speaking to the dead, so I would caution against writing the deceased a letter. You might consider writing to her parents (no need to ever send it).
@Stphne1968
@Stphne1968 12 дней назад
Writing a letter to a person who's passed away isn't the same as "speaking to" or "summoning" the dead. Letter writing is a cathartic way to heal trauma and grief. It's not a seance. Writing a letter isn't gonna conjure spirirs.

I disagree with your assessment. It didn't go off the rails, it was kept respectful, and it acknowledges the horrible reality through communication and sharing, It gets it outside the body and mind where it can be stuffed and suppressed.

@@LatteBean-mf1qrDr. John also may of been genuinely asking if she saw pictures of the little girls body because this was before he found out they never found her. It is a different trauma seeing the body vs just hearing about it and with John having been in so many crisis scenes he knows that trauma very well.
