Quite frankly...the Sexsmith camp was out of line...and not by a little bit. You're doing fine, I'm absolutely sure your initial video (profoundly dissed by Sexsmith) was up to your usual standards...which are, from what I've viewed through the past couple of years, impeccable. You're doing nothing wrong...DID nothing wrong and, unfortunately, by even making such a request, Sexsmith only managed to accidentally show some who oppose people like Carlson can fall into the trap of being just as callous and shallow as he seems to be. Keep up the great work, my Friend.

I have been a Ron Sexsmith since his debut album. I am a longstanding American fan of this underrated Canadian songwriter. I am always surprised that my muso fans don't know his work. Too bad he was offended, but it IS Tucker Carlson (ugh!) we are talking about...having said that, you are a gleaming light on RU-vid. Your taste in music is mind-blowing...and you love SPARKS! ❤

I'm so sorry that you had to go through this experience. Bringing awareness about someone that I personally had never heard of and then being treated this way is like a punch in the stomach and soul destroying but you are a strong person and in time this hurt will fade. It's a shame that Mr. Sexsmith doesn't appreciate the time and effort that it took to you to make the video. Larry, I appreciate you communicating how you feel related to working to help out an artist and it fails. Something like this is painful and there’s nothing to be ashamed of. You invested time and effort in making something you were proud of and expected him to be appreciative of it, and he reacted in a way you hadn’t anticipated. I know when I’ve had someone misunderstand my intent, it can be devastating. I get over it too, but often things like music associated with an artist is then hard to enjoy. So I don’t blame you at all for saying you can’t listen to his record now you previously enjoyed very much. I’ve been there, and it sucks. Sorry this played out this way. I enjoyed your video myself.

Hey Studmuffin, I don't know how I came across this video, but I'm glad I did. I like your musical sensibilities and I'm subscribing. This was a tough video to watch and it must have been tough to make and post, and I admire people who feel deeply and tell painful truths. Sexsmith may be a great musician but shows a terrible sense of humor here. It just shows people can be brilliant in some ways and stunted in others.

I had never even heard of Ron until you started posting about him. And now I’ll never be checking out his music so it’s his loss I guess lol

I didn't know about Ron Sexsmith, I hadn't heard of his music; but not only am I more interested in this video you made and your content relatively speaking, but the attempt of cease and desist has only made it that much more enticing for me to want to watch, and thus has the opposite intended effect where i'm even more invested in what your video has to show than what music Ron has to show (all promotion of it notwithstanding). Funny how that works :P With that said, I am sorry you had such a huge letdown like this. I guess your high quality entertainment was much too high a quality to process.

As I said in a previous comment, I can't imagine how anyone can take offence at anything you say or do. You did the right thing and it's maybe an opportunity lost for Ron.

I'm Canadian, and I have never heard of this artist until you mentioned him. It sucks your hard work was wasted. RU-vid content makers like yourself giving them free publicity should be jumped on by these artists. The day will come when no one talks about them at all and then what for them? If I was you I'd put that CD back on your shelf under S and forget about it for a time or a long time and then pull it out when these bad feelings have long subsided. Nothing should ruin the enjoyment you get from a piece of art. Keep up the good work.

I like that no matter how annoyed you are with this confrontation you still have the respect and admiration for his latest album and the quality of his music. That's very mature and honest. I hadn't heard of Ron honestly. I think that he did ask politely but still could have gone about this in a better and more transparent way with you and at least acknowledge all the other stuff you sent him - you probably would have respected that more than a half-assed excuse about his wife. I saw the original video and don't understand what his objection is to the video, honestly. It's as if he never even watched it. I can certainly understand your newfound distaste after praising him and putting effort into a funny video relevant to his own social commentary only to be shot down like this. Maybe his outlook is why he's not more well known than he is. That's just speculation though.

I get it, Larry, and I agree with your point of view on the situation. As a sensitive person myself, I would probably feel the way you do. All I can say is try to let it go and move on. There is a whole lot of great music out there to listen to and waiting for your reviews.

It honestly makes me think he didn’t even watch the video.. and instead saw it had tucker and assumed the worst but what do I know. All I can say is in my opinion whether he asked politely or not…the way it went about when it all was clearly to promote his music was misdone. I appreciate that he asked politely, but being so politically sensitive that you can't tolerate seeing your opponent in even a mocking context is pretty embarrassing, especially if you're raining on the parade of a fan. And maybe this is a petty point to make, but saying "my wife and I" at every turn doesn't read like the words of someone with very independent thoughts, which is a worse look than any comedy video could ever portray. I also am one that did not see the video. I don't necessarily think you should have taken down the video because the artist has to realize that not everything that is said about them on social media are they going to like or feel comfortable with, and what you did was just to have fun it wasn't meant as anything hurtful. I appreciate you being very candid when you say that because of that you cannot listen to their music anymore. You are not a baby you are just very upset and hurtful by what happened and I still stand by you. I stand by you in no matter what decisions you make because you are doing what you feel is best for you at that moment.

Maybe this is simply a case of (with apologies to Dave Mason) "there ain't no good guy, there ain't no bad guy." My guess is that Sexsmith sees Carlson as a malignant little man whom he finds repugnant, as do you, but where you lampoon ol' Tucker, Ron would simply rather not be associated with him in any way, shape or form. Don't toss the album Larry; in time you'll be able to listen to it again without being reminded of the momentary disappointment, relatively speaking. Give it a chance to heal over and maybe there's still room for you to be a fan of his again. Anyway, it shows your depth of character that you have remorse or concern where the feelings of others are involved. Stay you Larry; your fans like me will still be here awaiting your next video, whatever it may be.

I think its simply that Ron Sexsmith/his manager are not familiar with your RU-vid channel and they are not familiar with your humour. They didn’t really understand what you were doing and they focused on the Tucker Carlson thing. That’s a shame Larry and I understand how you feel about it. Ron has made it clear he is very rabidly political, he wears those colours openly and anything like that , he’s not got a sense of humour about it. Shame but that’s how it is.

I'm late to the party but I'm definitely with you here. In context of the actual video it's clear you're not supporting (or criticizing) Tucker. It's about as Neutral as a highly political subject can get really. I applaud you for taking it down and all, and sure that's his prerogative to ask you to remove it, but ultimately it is still BS. You don't want to be around someone like that, who lashes out because of who you associate with.

Hi Larry. I can appreciate your hurt feelings, but hope you will work through it. Ron's message was very polite, reasonable and respectful. I can understand a hard working artist with many years of work not wishing to have his work associated with a person he disagrees with politicaly. I understand your point too. You intended no harm and just made another of your quirky comedy videos which we fans of the channel have enjoyed for years. I do hope you can listen to Ron's albums again someday as he meant no malice against you. It's just that politics these days are so toxic and divisive it may be best to avoid the topic. I've been invited on many live panels the past few months and one thing generally avoided in the discissions is politics. Anyway just wanted to let you know to not take it too personal and not feel too bad. Maybe someday invite Ron on for a chat either with yourself or a panel livestream. Might be fun! 😄

I'm a long time fan of Ron Sexsmith since way back with The Unknowns. Rod Stewart covered Secret Heart from his self titled debut album in 1991. Michael Buble had a hugehit with one of his tunes. Steve Earle produced one of his albums, and I started out with Other Songs album, his 2nd CD - Of his more recent offerings, find his Late Bloomer CD. Elvis Costello and Paul McCartney are big Ron Sexsmith fans. I first heard him solo at the Junos when another act cancelled (Kim Mitchell from Max Webster?) and he went on solo with his acoustic 12 string and played his song Nothing Good. I must have 10 of his albums - He's right up there with Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Ian Tyson, & Ian Thomas as far as great songwriters from Canada.

I completely understand his point of view and, by the looks of it he was really polite about it. Maybe put yourself in his position. You know that saying - 'never meet your heroes as they may disappoint', I get it that this isn't exactly the case here, but you'll get my drift. So I can totally understand how this experience has tarnished your admiration for Ron and his music and makes it difficult for you to enjoy his music in the future. Hopefully the hurt you're feeling now will diminish over time when it's less fresh. Also really annoying how much time you spent making and editing the video, but you'll bounce back with more great content - of that Im sure. Incidentally I was introduced to Ron Sexsmith a few years ago when somebody suggested I should check him out because he sounded like Paul McCartney. I am a Tucker fan, but I can completely understand why he wouldn't want his name associated with Tuckers. Tucker is a political commentator and in this day and age, people will hate you based on your politics. Sometimes it's just better to steer clear of any politics. And if Sexsmith is a Lefty (more than likely) I can definitely understand how the video would make him uncomfortable, not in a "snowflake" way but in a legitimate way. I haven't listened to his music yet and I don't know the guy but I hope his wanting to not be associated with Tucker would not be a reason for anyone to avoid his music.

I was under the impression that Ron was actually in the video. Like as though you took an interview of his and transposed it into your Tucker Carlson Show video. But, I can see how even his album and name being shown and mixed in with Tucker could have been a worrying proposition for Ron. If you were already in contact with Ron, it would have been better to run the concept of your video by him first. He would have said not to do it. Ron just didn't want to be associated with Tucker Carlson in any way. And I can understand his thought process in that. It's too bad that you worked hard on the video. I can sympathize with your point of view as well. But, you have to be careful when using a celebrities' image and likeness.

I wouldn't take it personally, Larry. You tried to do a good thing. Some people are so self absorbed with their political beliefs that they can't parse out nuance. I was willing to give Sexsmith a pass because I know the creative community is largely liberal and to have your name associated with anyone/anything conservative will get that side to start throwing stones at you. Even in the context of humor! But it seems like for as much of a sense of humor he's displayed, he's crippled by his hatered of the right. Sad. We can have different stances. I lean right, but if I got rid of all my music by liberal artists I'd have to throw away two thirds of my vinyl and CD collection! I have quite a few Ron Sexsmith albums and he is an outstanding songwriter/artist. That isn't going to stop me from enjoying his music. The world is headed in a very dark direction. I only want what's best for humanity and for everyone to lead as joyous a life as possible. I am against genocide and the globalist movement. If I say anything remotely "political" it's because I want to save people.

Apologies in advance for this somewhat lengthy response, Larry. A lot of the comments here are simply baffling. I think people need to learn about boundaries and why they're important. Folks are making this more complicated than it needs to be. If you're doing something that affects (or could affect) someone else, and they ask you to kindly stop doing it, then the sensible and reasonable thing to do is stop doing it. Ron very politely requested that you not affiliate him with Tucker in any way, even in jest, and you acquiesced. That should be the end of it. If Ron had wanted to be vindictive, he could have reported the video to RU-vid and said his likeness was being used without permission, which might have resulted in the video being taken down or worse...but that's not what he did. I think everyone that has followed you for years knows your heart always seems to be in the right place and that you never set out to offend or harm anyone. You were clearly hurt by this, which is unfortunate, but is it conceivable that he and his wife were also hurt in some way and that's why he asked you to take it down? You said you are a sensitive person, and he clearly is as well. I'd never even heard of Ron before this incident, but all these comments saying he's "out of line" and "tyrannical," or whatever, are ridiculous. People need to calm down with the histrionics. The funniest comments to me are the folks who act like they are somehow above politics, but their level of ire over situations like this (always aimed in one direction) makes it very clear that's not the case. It doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure that out. As for being put off of his music, I had an awkward incident meeting one of my favorite bands back in 1994, and as a result I couldn't listen to their music for a year or two. But I eventually came back into the fold in a big way, especially when I took a step back from the situation and tried to put myself in their shoes. I eventually realized that, in my youthful indiscretion, I had crossed a line with people I didn't even know. I agree with the few commenters here who've said the best way to patch this up is to invite Ron on for an interview. I'd love to see that. Best wishes, Larry.

Larry, I know tour intentions were good but try seeing it from his point of view. Would you object to someone taking your work and them incorporate it into another piece of work without your prior knowledge or being asked about it first. I think Ron or his wife has every right to be a bit miffed. Just like you he works hard at what he does and to have someone come along and trivialise his product (even though you didn’t intend to and only wanted to promote it) is probably a little hard for him and his wife to swallow. 🙂

At first I thought a regular user say someone like me had asked you to remove a video because he/she did like Ron Sexsmith or Tucker Carlsson. Never give into that. Nobody should give into stuff like that. Though when the actual artist or person you have in the video is asking about. It it a more difficult question. He is very polite and does it in a good way. He is still getting free publicity though and most people watching it will understand it is sort of joke. The whole "culture/cancel"-thing and big distance between the political parties is getting out of hand. It has to end at some point.

You are a very good and kind person to make a change based on someone else's sensitivities. But I think you should just be yourself (you always are, and we love you for who you are, your comedy, your musical insights), and... stand your ground once you've posted something, especially as you never try to offend anyone. Artistic and creative people often have sensitive egos, but the world can't walk on egg shells all the time, if someone doesn't like what you say when you've only been honest and not vindictive in any way. People need to respect and understand and appreciate each other and not "cancel" or try to censor others. AAAAAaaaandd... probably best to steer clear of politics, people are extremely divided in the polarized world of today. I almost never mention politics in my videos, not because I'm afraid of others having a difference of opinion, but I'd rather not deal with the anger, the division that comes along with it. My vids aren't about politics anyway, so why bring it up and invite the hate and anger that comes along with it? But that's just me. Again, I know you are a very good person and would never intentionally say anything to anger anyone. Hey! I found you from you and Molly’s H & M Parodies! Firstly, I want to say you’re both wonderful! I didn’t see the original video you’re talking about here, but it’s bothering me enough to comment. You are a content creator, this is your art and you pour yourself into it. Not everyone is going to like your art and that’s ok, but people don’t get to choose what your art is. Unfortunately the world is in a bad place and people are very divided on so many things, and some people don’t want their name’s associated with certain things or certain people. With that being said, no one gets to choose what your art is and what makes other people laugh and smile. You seem like a good guy with a huge heart and nothing I’ve seen thus far has been in poor taste. It’s unfortunate that this guy didn’t like it, but that’s not your problem, it’s his. I feel that he asked you because he knew you were a fan. Do you think he asks his “haters” to remove their content? I highly doubt that. He played on your emotions and used your praise of his work to make you feel guilty for yours. When you hit that submit button, don’t ever hesitate and stand your ground. People post a lot worse things than a comedy skit promoting someone’s album!! Sorry this happened to you.

Is it possible that he didn't want to associate himself with Tucker Carlson "fans"? He might not want any hate mail from them. Anyway, I hope this doesn't deter you from doing more Tucker Carlson interviews with other artists because they're very humorous.

I'm sensitive, but, have opinions on mostly everything. How's things. Wish content creators would offer more variety. I like your comedical videos; I need to view em, more than once, because, I not realize your joking @ 1st. I find it refreshing when creators like you, encourage diverse opinions, and dialog. (Some RU-vidrs, are unfortunately, rigid and can be immature, usually I leave them.) Wish RU-vidrs would constructively, vent more. This demonstrates vulnerability and being human to me.

Dictate your own stuff, LG. i dont know the RS deal. Artists are not above us. They dont get to control the world wether their work is out there or not. Art is like a balloon, once you release it....

Hi Larry, I have watched your videos for quite a while but was never compelled to comment. I have to say I do get why Ron isn't comfortable with the video. At the same time, I completely understand your frustration. I would say the real lesson here is maybe before you put in 5 plus hours of work on a video about someone else, perhaps you should ask them about it. Sounds a bit much I know, but I think if you made a few regular videos mentioning Ron before, then messaged him about your idea for the video, you might have been able to find out if it was worth your time. All that being said, I would feel the same way you do know, upset and not interested in listening to his music anymore, for now anyway. Maybe that the hurt will go away in time. Cheers.

I also am one that did not see the original video, but if you deleting the video is what you felt was best then that's okay. I am not a fan of censorship and I don't think you needed to take the video down because even though the artist does not like mr. Carlson the whole thing was basically just to have fun. They have to realize that

I sure am sorry that you were hurt by this experience--I know it stings to perceive a negative response from someone you admire, and how that may turn you off from the person's work, at least for a while. I wasn't familiar with Ron Sexsmith before watching this upload, but from what has been described, it just seems that he had his own personal perspective on the situation, and asked that his qualms be honored, which you indeed did, and promptly. I have a feeling that Mr. Sexsmith doesn't have any personal grudge against you, and probably would continue to appreciate discussion of his work, as long as he's not associated (however he may see that) with a public personality (Mr. Carlson) he finds distasteful. I hope the hurt feelings pass quickly, and that in time you are able to listen to Sexsmith's work and maybe even wish to discuss it again. You seem like a really nice person, and I appreciate the passion and knowledge you bring to your informative presentations. Keep going strong!

Your channel is your channel, just as Ron Sexsmith's album is his album. If he doesn't like your content, tough sh*t. It's not like you're playing his music, or even running him down in any way whatsoever. Quite the opposite. Sexsmith trying to crush your creative effort to praise him makes him seem like the kind of authoritarian figure that Carlson would actually like.

That's too bad Larry. I didn't see the video but I'm sure if Ron would better understand what you do, he'd have less of a problem with it. I guess he really hates to be associated with Tucker Carlson in ANY way... and that's the crux of the matter for him and the reason he reached out to you. I'm sure he wouldn't want you to not enjoy his music. Hopefully the hurt you feel mends over time; it's understandably disappointing to have a negative reaction to a video that you put a lot of care and effort into though. Perhaps it's the kind of thing you'd resolve in a personal eye to eye in a matter of seconds... Honestly, I'd struggle too to appreciate an artist's music the same way, if they had personally made me feel I'd somehow "wronged" them, while trying to be supportive instead. I have only one album by him, called Retriever from 2004, which I really enjoy. Talented guy for sure. Maybe a teensy bit oversensitive when it comes to politics.

No big deal, Larry. I'm sure Ron doesn't think it is a big deal - just my guess. The thing that continues to surprise me though is how touchy and divisive politics is in today's world. I suppose it always has been, but its much more of a sensitive matter these days with the internet, social media etc. BTW I saw him open for Elvis Costello & the Attractions in 1996.

I didn’t see the video, but Canadian Studmuffin is a bigger name than Ron Sexsmith. He should have been grateful for the positive review and additional exposure you gave him. Making it political was foolish of him IMO.

Ron seemed to misunderstand the humor, but I would not take it too personally. The artist should be lucky to be promoted on your excellent channel. As you probably know, Tucker Carlson gets a lot of ratings in the USA, but the right-wing firebrand commentator is controversial, so this Ron guy overacted to your well-intentioned way of promoting him and yet also add some humor to it. People are so sensitive about politics these days.

For a person that has no problem blabbering on social media how much he despises Trump and Tucker Carlson, Ron seems to have a pretty thin skin, and I see that a lot with people who are very politically outspoken. Had I been in his position, I would have took your video for the comedy that it is and went on. If he has a problem with that, then it's HIS problem, not yours. Heck, put that video back up and tell him to have a nice day. 😉

Extreme views boggles my mind whether on the left.or right. That's crazy no sorry I will never even listen to Ron now. Ron and his wife are doing more damage to his music career. It would of been a better look if he would of accepted it and went with it.

Even if I were a fan of Ron Sexsmith, I wouldn't have felt offence that you were having a go at the artist, as you'd made it perfectly clear you liked his work. I'm not a fan of Tucker Carlson, but it was obvious you weren't having a go at him either. So, our Ron's just being way too sensitive.
