Jere Van Dyk was sure that his Taliban captors were preparing to end his life. They told him as much. The mock-executions, and the trauma of begin held captive for 6 and a half weeks in 2008 is still clearly affecting the former Afghanistan Correspondent for CBS and the New York Times. Jere's story is enthralling, and shows the true nature of the Taliban and what they are capable of.
After landing in Kabul, Jere and his fixer were tracking down a lead for a story, before being taken. Betrayed by someone close to him. The Afghanistan Taliban captured him, and threatened to take his life. His harrowing story is a must-watch.
Jere Van Dyk has written a fascinating book about his ordeal. It's called 'Captive', and it is a must-read.

Sometimes it takes a man to cry, to admit he was scared and vulnerable. I want to go and give him a giant hug to comfort him. He literally looked death in the face and lived. I 100% understand why he will NEVER set foot in Afghanistan again. Don’t blame him in the least.

yes, in Islam the person who investigate you is a human/person who has direct connection to his Creator. He would not cheat nor be bias against you as the Creator know everything. Once found out he was just a reporter not a soldier, he had to be released. Case called - wrong guy at the wrong time and place. Islamic soldiers do not hurt non soldiers, women children, elderly, place of worship...they observe this strictly to in order access grant blessing from God. Opponents will have to face them as they already offered lives to die in God blessing. So your concept of hero and their concept of HERO is VERY DIFFERENT. They die i order to get the HERO title whilst you need to survive to be one. btw consenting women wear hijab coz Mary wore it too. Islam honor Mary by following her way and Jesus way of life. Mary didnt expose her valuable dignity to all men eyes did her?

Jerry is not a hero, just like John McCain was not a hero. They were survivors and there's a big difference. Heroes do acts of heroism.

What atrocity was that? They suspected he was a spy, held him to verify his story, and released him without harming him. No one invited him or tricked him to go there.

I can promise you the military absolutely didn’t want to be there. We don’t care what happens in Afghanistan. Still don’t as long as they leave us alone we should leave them alone.
