YOO - so about that question I asked around what kind of creator I am...would love to hear your thoughts! 👀 This director of social media at a HUGE agency said that she pitches me as a "lifestyle creator with an emphasis on career". Someone else in the comments said i'm a "pathfinder" or "compass" content creator! taking notes here!! tysm 🙏
I know that you two are still somewhat newly married but it made me uncomfortable how you needed to justify your income and contributions to the home. As a couple you share a lot including funds so I don't think a bad thing if you weren't fully supporting yourself or if he contributed more during this period of time. I think normalizing this is important. I know not all couples have joint accounts but I know I was recently laid off I was so thankful to have the support of my husband's income and a healthy amount of savings to ride this wave. Being able to not assign my worth to my (lack) of personal income was huge.
hi alex! aw thank you for sharing your 2c. i appreciate your perspective as someone who is further down the line in marriage. i think you're right to normalize that it is perfectly alright to financially support each other. in retrospect, i wish i added a line on that. kevin and i are still in the middle of figuring out how to merge finances. it's been such a busy year that we haven't made much progress, but hoping to prioritize it in Q4 before the end of the year. "Being able to not assign my worth to my (lack) of personal income was huge." this line totally hit me. i feel like the "badass corporate girl" dream is so ingrained me that it's hard for me to detach, but gotta remind myself that it's okay to let go. thanks for sharing that sentiment!
@@rosquared yoo can i ask - what was your experience like navigating this? o_o to an extent, i think i know my worth, but that's only above a certain threshold. i feel i still subconsciously subscribe to the notion that your value and worth are tied to your career, money, and character. 🥲 more inner work is needed for sure.
Chloe, for me, you're a "pathfinder content creator" or "compass content creator" as your content helps people navigate life in general. Since work is such a big part of life, hobbies, family, etc. which you show in varying amounts in your content. WHICH I LOVE
OOO i've never heard of anyone call my content or me that before. i kind of love it, but i also don't think i would know what that means if i didn't already have context on my content. D: it would take a few more explanations and examples to describe what that means. i totally get where you're coming from though. i do think i cover a *lot* of topics x_x. i wish it could be more consistent and predictable, but life be like that sometimes! thank u for appreciating the variety ~
Hey chloe! As a product manager myself, who has also been laid off, i have always looked up to you! It was so hard to get back up after my lay off, almost a year until i could get another job, so i am glad i was able to have you in my back pocket. Love your podcast by the way! Please talk more about product management and being in the tech world! And as well as money management! I would love to have more insight in how you have navigated all that!
hi sarah!! oh man we are in this layoff club together. i really hope you find the next job that takes your career in the direction you want!! and im so glad to hear that you enjoy the pod! :D i want to figure out how to tie in product more in my videos, but i lowkey feel like i don't deserve to talk about it anymore since i'm not currently employed as one. 😓 hope to figure this out. the money management piece is something i def want to get more into! it'll be an arc for me later this year ~
Your hair looks great! I found you from the layoff and l had seen a few of your reels before then of you cutting fruit. My girlfriend of 3 years broke up to me a month or two before your laid off video. I mentioned this on an earlier video and you had a really nice reply that was very helpful. Thanks for that. Your journey, positive energy, and advice has also given me some guidance so thanks for that too
aww michelle - i feel ya. seems like you're going through it. and if you are - YOU CAN DO IT!! COMEBACK ERA LET'S GO! stay focused - 2024 is not over yet!
@@chloeshih You know its been a year. This is so sweet, thank you! Sending you a big hug! Congrats on all the success with the JOMO podcast, ive been religiously watching and its great. As a viewer, I've loved watching your content evolve and the design is DESIGNING!
Love the video ❤❤❤ plus just a tip choose a darker foundation, it’s very pale compared to to your hands and neck which has more of a yellow tone vs the makeup on your face that has no color at all similar to white paint
I stumbled across one of your PM videos a few months ago and also saw your layoff video. Then I found your JOMO channel(I love the content btw) and now this video. You said a lot of interesting things about your life and perspective on things, but the thing that stood out most to me was when you talked about hiring your own team and that whole experience. I’m also a very tech/planner girl, loves content creation(gave up a lot but kept coming back because I love the whole process), and also think think my “creative” side is too weak compared to my strengths so I feel like when I watch your videos, it’s like watching a version of my future self(if I were to go down a similar path). Your journey is truly inspiring and it reminds me that it's possible to create a path that aligns with my passions. I appreciate your honesty and the insights you share; they motivate me to keep pushing forward and embrace my own journey in content creation. Thank you for being such a positive influence!
🥹 aw thank u so much. i try to be as real as possible. always have to gut check myself if i'm writing some fluff. i really try to imagine how i'd say it to a friend over a catchup dinner. i'll always serve honest POVs! 🫡
This video is exactly what I needed, a kind and gentle reminder that it’s ok to take some time off for myself I’ve quit my job in tech a little over 2 months ago now because I was so burned out and just couldn’t continue anymore And basically ever since I have been having constant internal dialogue whether it was the right thing to do or what is the right thing to do next. Anxiety creeps in like that slowly from time to time. And then I remember, ah, it’s OK, I will find something that will truly resonate with me. And in the meantime just enjoy a lot of me-time and rest Thank you Chloe ❤
noda, i'm so glad to hear this. congratulations on quitting your job! i know it was the right decision for you, and it's 100% okay to take some time off for yourself. no one else can do that for you but you. anxiety does creep into us all, but hope you know that i completely support your decision. you've put in your time and effort. you've probably very likely overworked there, and now you deserve your well-earned break. your break will bring even more opportunities to you!! sending love from LA ~
ah omg i did the same thing I quit in june cause I was so burnt out and my mental health was not great and now I'm unsure if it was the right decision especially given how tough the market is these days. the pay was good and i couldn't summon the energy to study for interviews or change careers so i felt like i had to stay. enjoy your me time and hope you find something that works for you!
@@sagekaho dear, thank you 🙏🏼 the pay in tech is usually indeed good, but there comes the time when even money won’t motivate to get up from bed and work, that was for me a turning point and I thought it cannot continue like that I’m sure we will find something else that will interest us and financially compensate as well 🤞🏼🙌🏼🤓
Thank you for highlighting my question! Really love hearing your perspective and seeing how things have changed in just a few months! You're a rockstar
aww thank you for sending me a question! really helps me see what areas you're more curious about, so i can craft the most helpful response to you. really appreciate it
You know what, the journey up to this point is quite beautiful. I'm always in awe. And - I do think you are a compass content creator. However, in the agency world I do see them pitching you as a "lifestyle creator with an emphasis on career" as that would make sense for the corporate people
ahhh thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions! I really appreciated + valued your answers 🥹 they were all so sweet, kind, and well thought out best of luck in this latter half of your gap year!! you got this Chloe!! WOOHOO!! 🥳
Ahh thank you Timothy!! Appreciate your questions and following along the journey! This year is ending so soon 😭😭😭 need to buckle down and push things out!
I find it interesting that before I found you, I was a product designer for 3 years and loved it! And now I got picked up by the CDC to be a product manager lol. So far so good with the role but your videos did scare me A LOT. I’m 3 weeks in so let’s see how they treat me!
Why would your husband not support you financially? When I was laid off my husband was holding down the fork financially for our shared mortgage and when he got laid off I was holding down the fork financially - we are a team , this is what marriage is through wealth and poverty we go through this together - love gives freely
Your vids are so good, I can’t just listen and multitask, I gotta have my eyeballs on every second of the video 😆 loved the update and incredible journey you’re on!! Also I got so excited to see my question up there!
AWW thanks girl 🥹 and thanks for submitting a question! appreciate you contributing to the Q&A and helping me figure out how to outline this video. hope to create even better videos from here on out!!
Guys, we love her. The video is packed with key points after another. No BS, super impactful and heart warming, and even goes the extra mile to help reframe viewers Q&A questions to address their true concerns and desires. She’s not just answering from her pov, she empathies with the questions deeply. Chloe, thank you for all the effort. Been binge watching Jomo lots. Your content truly helps people feel seen and grow. 🫶🏻
JULIET! YOU ARE TOO SWEET!! imma cry 😭😭😭 thank you for this comment. i feel so much hype and support. thank you for appreciating the answer breakdown. i almost felt it was almost too straight-forward, structured, and a little boring? D: but thank you for this positive comment - made my day! im also so glad to hear you enjoy JOMO!! it's brought out a whole new (savage) side of me that i was always too scared to bring up on this channel haha. hope you enjoy all the episodes to come in season 1!!
@@chloeshih IT WAS TIMING, LUCK, PREP, AND YOU 😂😂😂. I WILL CONTINUE TO REWATCH YOUR VIDS AS MUCH AS I NEED TO 💓💖 It's been crazy for me too. I left the first job I got into because of the environment and misalignment, which led to demotivation, poor health + performance, and I got kicked out 💀. It was depressing and all of a sudden, even tho I saw it coming becoz I dont really like the role they placed me to ( I came from > 😉 with a Dev role) But then this opportunity appeared, I applied and prepared A LOT. 50% of what I learned from your videos helped immensely. No shit 😂 I'm so grateful and thankful for creators like you, specifically YOU 🥹💖. I enjoy tech, and I needed to find what's meant for me. I don't really want to build things myself but still want to be part of the decision process-the "whats & whys." So yeah, THANK YOU 🎉🎉🎉🎉. I hope you get back into PMing 🫶🏻. I also enjoy watching your personal life; it makes me realize there's so much more to life than just work. Upskilling is great, but traveling with friends and family, and doing NORMAL life things, is so much better.
Hey Chloe! So nice to get to catch up with you 😌 glad to hear you share more details even tho I’m following you on IG. I will admit I haven’t gotten around to listening to Jomo but am planning on it soon! 😊
thank u for joining on the catch up together, esther!! :D i do share a lot on IG already haha, but youtube is where i get to go more in-depth. and JOMO has been awesome! the season is coming to an end tho, so that gives me more time to come back to my main youtube channel as well as IG!! :D :D hope you've been well~~ 💕
aww sharon - thank you! man the tech/corporate girl identity is still really ingrained in me. i feel like everyone can smell that energy off of me in the creator space. they're always like "wow you're such a product manager". it's been a bit hard to figure out how to express or share those parts of me. i lowkey feel im not allowed to do that anymore since i don't work as a tech girl in an official capacity atm. :/ still figuring things out! appreciate you watching along! hope you've enjoyed all the other stories of 30s life ~
i know, valerie!! it's so interesting how i started JOMO bc i felt i couldn't express more nuance in my regular youtube videos, but now that i've done about 20 ish episodes of JOMO, i feel i don't express things the same way i used to on my normal videos here. they're all so different ah! glad to be back~
hi chloe! I’m also at a career break from my last toxic job and how the company betrayed me and my efforts. Could you share on how you process your feelings and how you keep yourself motivated in the same industry? Also can you share a simple comparison between product manager vs project management? Trying to break into one these roles from my healthcare marketing background.
As someone who's passionate about content creation and considering offering services in social media and content consultation, I find myself struggling with confidence when it comes to promoting myself and setting my rates. What advice do you have for overcoming that fear of charging what I believe I’m worth, and how can I effectively attract clients to find me? Thanks for your insights!
hi jems! are you looking for more tips on interviews and breaking into product, tech news overall, or news on a specific industry? i'm lowkey starting a newsletter around career and life advice centered around my experiences as a tech product manager and content creator too 😳 just wanted to get more color on what you're looking for!
Hi Chloe! I am catching up. I have a question for you, currently I am in the digital construction sector, I work as a Project Coordinator and my role has a lot of managerial activities. I´ve been searching for new jobs as a PM, but no luck yet, I´ve been thinking in jumping into the IT field where I can use a lot of the experience that I have, but I am not sure what would be a good starting point, do you have a suggestion? Thanks in advance!
OMG THE ENERGY FROM YOUR COMMENT!! i love it 🥹 and im so glad to hear that the videos help you through your days. that means the world to me. sending lots of love and positive energy. hope you slay in these next few months of 2024 ✨
I want to focus on my youtube full time when I am done with my college(hopefully in June) while looking for work. I am not sure if I would want to freelance. Goverment takes a loooot of money in taxes. Almost feel like I am being ripped off 😂 I rather spend my time on RU-vid. If I could make my money here that would be great 😊
HEYO!!! omg i really need to visit singapore T_T my youtube analytics says it's one of my top regions in the world. hope to meet you one day in singapore!! THANK U FOR WATCHING :D :D
TT can you be my sister Chloe Shihhhh? Jk but I’ve been watching ur videos for quite some time for the great edits, ur story telling and everything ur doing or have done But pls keep continue doing these videos cuz it literally feels like a sister talking to me and trying to help me in life Thank you Chlo💓
Ok, as a graphic designer who loves animation and has been seeing whats been happening all 2024 in the industry i wanna ask.... who's gonna tell her? 🥲
omg i don't think im actually gonna get a job in graphic design, design, or animation. they're really skills i've always been interested in for my personal hobby. i guess think of it as like taking pottery or singing class? i just wanna make stuff for funsies haha! thanks for watching out for me though
