"I was on top of my game, I was told to go home," Media personality Jimmy Gathu speaks | History Makers Kenya's No.1 channel for digital exclusive videos. AUTHORITATIVE. BOLD. ENTERTAINING.
My story too at Barclay's now Absa in 2011. Just taken a housing construction loan ,wife pregnant, youngest kid joining class one, 2nd born class eight, 1st born form 4 candidate! Recovery has been tough, draining and hell on earth. But God keeps me going. I believe I am winning just like Jimmie.. God is great!
Pole sana, ....I feel your pain, mine happened in 2013,5 mons pregnant, separated, school loan that I had just taken to continue with my CPAs, custody battle over my other 2 kids, my sick mum who was battling cancer and dependant on me for finances(RIP mum)......but Gods grace is sufficient,....it's been a painful journey for sure
Jimmy Gathu should start a RU-vid show and just talk to us. He has that ability to captivate his audience no matter what the topic. Kibe has done it. Why not Jimmy Gathu?
I would say the same coz she has his daughter as brand manager this can be well taken care of. Many people need hear his story and learn truth about life. He is rising again much more wiser.
Came from successful family, lost both parents at 17, all friends relatives disappeared, depression became a street preacher, they all called me crazy, 12 months later am in America on a sports scholarship.Adopted by Christian family in US, Built church, orphanage in shags, learnt a lot,but those friends relatives can't look me in the eye but I love them in christ.
I remember Jimmi when he was just working his way, Alikuwa anaishi kwa Servants quarter Mugoya Estate, South C in the early to mid 90's. He was good to us young kids at the time. Respect.
Same thing happened to me in 2020 when I was just at the top my career but am glad I found peace in Christ that very yr to date am a living testimony...🙏🙏
God loves you so he wanted to draw you closer. You now have the real treasure, More than gold. Something that transcends this physical world, very few find it.
Jimmy is a Legend...Richard Astar,...waiting for Gathu in CTA..we need to hear more on Impulse....and more he promoted music and entertainment...please..
Being a teen in the 90's was truly epic and Jimmy Gathu played a very big part in that. Great to see that despite the ups and downs, he remains resilient.
Your professional voice on TV and style of presenting news will forever remain in our hearts. These days media 🏘 are jokers. They call comedians news presenters as if all viewers are teenagers. We miss Kathleen Openda, Kasavuli, Jimmy Gathu, Mboya, Mwaura, etc on TV.screens. These fellows were born to read news: voice, style, etiquette....very professional. We are left with Lulu and Nimrod. If they quit, some of us will read standard newspaper. These days newscaster are a big joke. Language issues, lack of etiquette, lack of professionalism.
Fantastic interview. Our generation grew up with Jimmi. We have seen his amazing journey. I was also raised in Kariakor and went to St Teresa's so he is a brother from a distance :-). well done Jimmi. Your greatest achievement is the person you have become, the people and the family that you have raised.
Had a privilege of meeting Jimmy Gathu in the late 90's early 2000's. He is the most hard working, humble dude I know. He never let pride creep-in. Jimmy & BigKev are/were the godfathers of Local Music while at Capital FM. Jimmy is not only a media personality, but a visionary. They demystified Capital FM and made it Kenyan. He is original, can never be copied or replicated. More wins Jimmy!
Jimmy Gathu is a LEGEND. I watched all those music shows plus woke up early Saturday morning for Club kiboko. Rap ‘em and Jam a Delic were my favorite. I didn’t know he did all that in Radio 📻. I loved Lorna Irungu (Rest eternally). I was a teenager early 90’s. I think I even watched Jimmy at a break dancing competition at KICC I think he went by the name Gathu Kid. I stayed up most nights watching channel O. I miss the 90’s.
I suppose we are age mates....your narrative is a moving picture of the high time of our youth. I recall my impressional younger sister asking me what jimmi meant when he said Iam ouraf hia at the end of his shows.
@@irenawanjiru I hope he is getting some type of royalties for shows that are on going and he created them. The radio morning show on classic is minting 💰, hope he is getting some kickback’s from that show and others.
Jimmi was my first crush, seeing him on TV everyday for Jam a Delic, etc MTV came to us. Him and Lorna Irungu were the first legit Celebs for us kids who grew up in the 90s.
This is one of the best interviews I have watched. Jimmy Gathu I remember him from when I was a teenager. He is so real, so authentic and so grounded. I didn't know he was such a trailblazer and one of the most influential people in the recent history of the Kenya radio scene. Jimmy Gathu is the kind of person bright eyed young people need to listen to. He has such a life story. I have learnt so much and I feel so enriched by his life story. May God bless you and your family Jimmy
"PEOPLE LIKE YOU FOR WHAT YOU CAN GIVE THEM🎯🎯. When your action and intetion are good and bad things are planned against you. Trust God you will bounce back. God loves you Jimmy
I lost my business from paying cheques of over 1m to lacking sh.10 fare , events happened and I lost everything . Your true friend is money & family don't forget your parents in particular. Thank you mam you took me from my feet again .
Jimmy the journalist came across as decent, creative, passionate and humble which this interview demonstrates. He often reached out to me for radio interviews on State of the Nation and People's Parliarment. I worked in the area of human rights advocacy then. Among the lessons learnt, employment is not an until death do us part affair. Always have a back up plan and know your worth. However, I understand how blind we can be when we are winning accolades and raking profits for the employer. Learn to live within means, invest progressively and save for a rainy day. Thanks Jimi for being bold enough to share your journey. All the best.
For those who don't know that phrase, this is how it's said... 'Jimmy Jam, Jimmy Jam, Jam-A-Delic'. Jimmy Gathu was our guy every day of the week: Monday - Rap'Em - Gangster Rap all the way Tuesday - Kass Kass - Lingala Wednesday - Rastrut - Cool reggae vibes Thursday - Jam-A-Delic - Pure RnB Friday - Rythmix - Blues for the lover boys n girls Saturday - Club Kiboko - this was hosted together with the late Lorna Irungu. An A-Team it was. We used to look up to Jimmy and Lorna as our role models. I'm now saved and may not listen to those music I used to like, but Jimmy as a person still remains as a role model. God Bless you Jimmy, and keep you and your family. We miss Lorna too.
Yes I remember those days si hio ni kitambo jo..I remember running home from school to watch Akina Jam A Delic, Rastrut and them Don't forget Club Kiboko every Saturday Morning as a kid...those were very good times.
I lost my job in a split second when the company I worked for was placed under receivership,,so I can relate...I went through everything Jimmy is talking about, for 4years...it's so true that you end up with no friends...ever since I've learnt to turn to no one except me..
That is true boss. I lost my job at my best. 4 good friends helped me and saved me from the depression, reminded me I was still alive . I could not pay for anything after I cleaned my last balance. I will ever be thankful to them and God for giving me a second chance.
I thought I would watch just five minutes of this interview and get back to my busy schedule. I've ended up watching all of it nonstop. That's how you know that Jimmy is a media magnet. The ability to retain the viewer's attention with his captivating story-telling is just legendary. Jimmy you're a man to be emulated.
Its a very enlightening Interview, It happened to me in 2003 in Cologne Germany, at the top of my game and a step in months to be a Director, was shown the door for no other reason but I would be a Director. God is real. I ended up far much better after I passed Gods exam. Jimmy you are a motivator. You good. Thanks. God Bless You Indeed.
I remember Jimmy Gathu those years back we used to go to Valley rd church.. Once a winner , you’ll remain a winner regardless of how hard things may seem. I send positive vibes to everyone going through tough times. ❤️🇰🇪🇮🇸🙏
Weee🙌🙌🙌🙌this coming from Jimmy Gathu I respect Andrew Kibe’s raw truths take it or leave, like him or hate him that guy got wisdom..His take on friendships it’s all about what you got to offer to remain relevant in line of friendships.
I am not a showbiz admirer neither do I pay much attention to “celebrity entertainers” No disrespect to the occupation or the people in it; but I always thought Jimmy G. was a cool sober minded down-to-earth kid. He just confirmed it. I wish him all the best in life.
I remember a night radio program that Jimmy used to host around 2002, where Kenyans used to pour their hearts on issues affecting them, it was so popular
I am in diaspora with a very busy schedule but I had to take time to watch this great and amazing interview. It’s all about History in the making interview. Jimmy has touched many Kenyans lives and he is the successful story Kenyans would love to listen to not how you become billionaire within a short period of time with Kenyans taxpayers but how you have transformed Kenyans lives. May Almighty God continue to shine on your pathway to bless you and your family for your great heart of support for many families . You have discovered talents and gifts and the are shining great. Asante Sana JG! This is lovely Tamu Sana Tamu Sana!
It doesn't matter what has happened..Don't look so much at the closed door that it blocks you to.see all the open doors ahead of you, take it as a redirection.
So touching and enlightening. His influence had impact on me doing journalism even though I later changed career, Jimmy is big and that's why he has bounced back. God ni mso for reall
Thanks Jimmy for sharing a beautiful, Sacred part of your life, God bless you. I know you have helped many...l enjoy such stories.... May the Lord bless you and keep you.....
Wow....Jimmy is a phenomenal guy. This are some of the people who's names will always remain relevant in the entertainment industry. Very creative mind too.
Thanks Jimmy for coming out so boldly. I've been in those shoes and lost friends, it's true, happens always. Please start a show on RU-vid to inspire and give hope.
Choosing what was important, family, kept you grounded and sane in the midst of the storm. You are a great person for through you many were raised and pushed to the limelight. I celebrate you, a true definition of a legend.....JG👏👏👏
Jimmi Gathu has captivated me..He literally took me back in time..from days we used to watch the music shows on ktn..kasskass..jamadelic..rythmix..wuee Wacha tu..Only LEGENDS understand...Kudos Jimmi you've done well..
Best parting shot Jimmy Gathu. Indeed you have and are continuing to livea fulfilling life and that is something that we should all strive for. And thank you for club kiboko. You and Lorna made my Saturday mornings awesome.
I really loved this man& another Tony Gachoka. These guys ruled the radio airwaves. History makers indeed. Jimmy, sorry for the journey you've gone through. Many of us can identify. Blessings
This was phenomenal, truly a history in the making.I remember how we used wait for kass kass so that we can dance with my siblings before my parents come home from work 😂😂😂😂😂,good memories.jimmy Gathu truly made many people to reinvent themselves. It’s an honor to hear your story.God is good.
Same script different cast,.........I was bitter, confused, angry etc.....I get you Jimmy, thanks for sharing, and glad you've bounced back....good stuff
This here is a life changing conversation, from a great interviewer to an iconic, visionary interviewee….if someone can’t pick any life lessons from this CTA interview…🤷🏾♂️
Very true reflection on drastic changes and adjustments on equal measure..a chance also on how to have a complete fresh start on life's second chances.
Good interview, Sasa prepare a back up plan, incase sh*t happens again, all the best ...Folks out there always stay paranoid but fearless tomorrow or the next month might be the day you get enrolled at Kenya institute of character development, if you have never tested rock bottom you better brace yourself the future is not always that clear.
good lesson and advice we have learn kosa kazi jua marafiki zako then good people during CORONA period no work was permanent.Just thank GOD Everyway and everyday.
Finally, what does not kill you only makes you stronger. JG has grown and would probably not be the sage he is now with tonnes of valuable experience to share with the next generation of scribes.
Everyone should listen to this... I wish we can get this interview to every struggling soul huku inje....❤❤👍👍... getting people who bounced back and listening to their stories,journey... can someone create such a space ... good stuff, good vibes
I have never understood how state of the nation just went down. My hubby and I listened every morning, then one morning it wasn't there. The interview with Mutula Jnr and Sakaja were off the charts!
Hey Jim... I recall you were part of 5alive group that gave us entertainment way back when I was in primary school saint Georges state house rd.always a pleasure seeing you on set. Kudos
The 1st time I saw Jimmy Gathu on TV was on Club Kiboko, I was a small kid back then. He is such a great positive influence in this country and so much history. Wow
