OH MY GOD so my best friend reilly's boyfriend andrew's got one hand, and then his right arm goes up right to his wrist. so he's an amazing athlete and he pitches with his left hand in baseball. but when he got moved up to college baseball, they thought he would be no good, so he didn't get put in the game at all until about a month into the season when he had to be put in as pitcher (it was a makeup game so they were short a lot of players) and he KILLED IT, he struck out every batter but one and oh my god it was amazing and everyone was cheering when he took his glove off his wrist and he showed that he didn't have a hand i almost cried. but yeah that's my story i make andrew tell it all the time to anyone who asks him how he lives with one hand omg

THATS SO RIDICULOUS not even the fact that they were like "oh sorry i thought you couldn't have used a knife and fork because you had one hand" and THEN GAVE IT YOU like they were literally like no you are UNABLE to receive a knife and fork from us. woah i'm so baffled by this. but u handled it super well, i would've lost it honestly

I would have taken the individual's name and reported them for discrimination, because that's exactly what it is.

Not a story about a restaurant but I remember when I was out getting new shoes, I have a prosthetic leg and it's always quite a stressful process as I can't always get the ones I like, but my dad had promised me a pair of converse so we go into the shop and explain the situation and the lady just says no I won't help you, she has one leg, she can't wear normal shoes, despite me being in what I called normal sandals, so I try and explain again and She keeps saying that she refuses to serve a disabled costumer and that I should not even try to have the shoes I want. I handled it way worse then you and cried right there in the shoe shop

"I realize what I'm missing. A FORK AND KNIFE"

I would have said "I know what your gonna be missing after this meal ... a tip"

So, one day in school, when I was a teenager, I was giving my first name to a classmate to write down in a paper for a group project, and my classmate misspelled it. "No big deal", I told myself, I'll just correct and all will be alright. Apparently that would not do, as my classmate took the paper back and cancelled out my correction and rewrote the incorrect spelling. And that's the day I discovered sometimes people can be incredibly stubborn in their errors.

If this were me: "You don't know what you're missing cause you don't have two hands" "Listen here, I know I'm missing out on eating my dinner because you won't give me a knife and fork. You don't know how rude and discriminatory you're being, and I can sue and get this place shut down before you can clap your two hands together. Now get me my freaking cutlery"

As a waitress, in that situation I would have given everyone at your table a knife, fork, and spoon so no one felt excluded or isolated

When he said you don't know what your missing you should have answered with,'yes I do, I'm missing a knife and fork!'

this made my day but i think i can top your story. i went into this restaurant once about two weeks ago and i had a plaster on my finger and the waiter was like 'aw what happened' and i was like oh i has making a salad and i cut my finger with the knife but its fine now just a bit red. i then ordered my food and they gave every one cutlery and when they got to me they gave me one of the children's knives, so i went up to the guy and said like "haha nice joke mate but please can i have a proper knife to cut my food' and his reply was 'no sorry it seems your too clumsy and we can't have you cutting your self and suing us, my manager would prefer it if you used that' this is no joke. i had no words i just borrowed my mates knife instead of trying to argue!x

I (19 years old) went for a meal once with my parents, my sister and my nephew who is 14. We were at some sort of Croatian restaurant so it's usual to get like a small glass of alcohol before you leave. And the kids get a lollipop. Here in Germany you can drink alcohol when you're 18 ( I don't know when you can do that in the UK :D) so of course I thought I was gonna get a small glass as well. Nope. The waitress placed a glass in front of my NEPHEW who is freaking 14 (well, he does look way older) and she gave me a lollipop saying: 'Ah, you're not having alcohol yet, right?' So basically my nephew looks more grown up than his aunt. Okay.

You two are so kind it's unbelievable. I would've LOST it.

What the actual heck. Those waiters were insanely strange. How on earth would they know more, and think they know better? Those sorts of people REALLY annoy me. I don't know how you guys stayed so calm, I would've exploded

I get that some time with my disability where non-disabled people see me in my wheelchair and seem to become so overwhelmed by their own sadness that they lack the ability to put on any kind of poker face or to realize "hmmm... how would this feel if i was on the receiving end of this" lol and just say things like "I am so sorry." *looks at chair* *looks at me* *chair again* *walks away* some people are just clueless as they pass me they will actually say to whoever they are with *shaking their heads* "Would you look at that. What a waste. What a shame." It's like I HEAR YOU what the hell? You know what's a shame. Your total lack of empathy and manners lol

What they were doing is actually against the law... they can't discriminate based on personal factors like that! Anyway, they don't know what they're missing out on, because you are beautiful and the two of you brighten up my evening so often! I get so excited when I get that email from RU-vid; "Mandeville Sisters have uploaded a video"!

My sister has cerebral palsy and the staff in Pizza Express often subtly cut her pizza for her before they bring it to us. It's quite sweet, AND they still trust her with a knife and fork. Your waiter sounds bizarre and we're giggling away at this - some people just have NO IDEA how to interact with people who have disabilities...!

WOAH! I would've asked to speak to the manager. If you ask for a knife AND fork you should get a knife and fork regardless of how many arms you have, it's not up to them to decide what you'll use , besides they were rude by dismissing you guys like that and treating you like an alien. That's absolutely horrible!

It's a shame he didn't know what he was missing out on lacking such a large chunk of his brain and all. I have a neuro autoimmune disease and so have different symptoms depending on theday/month etc and I now generally use a wheelchair (or occasionally a walker) but I can still stand if needed for short times etc. Anyways, I was recently told I was just being lazy using the wheelchair by a furniture salesman when I got out of the chair to test a mattress and see if it was comfortable the weird thing was he watched me manually lift my legs onto the bed before saying it. When I replied that it was what made it possible for me to get out and also not fall, he responded with 'but you could if you wanted to, you just probably like the attention' at which point I left because I was obviously not buying anything from him. I never mind people asking questions but the level of ignorance is sometimes a bit staggering. It wasn't really very funny, my favourite thing is when toddlers start chatting with me because they think I am one of them (& like in a stroller). That is always kinda amazing! haha! I hope you are both having a great week! x

I went out for dinner once for my sister's birthday, and she decided that she wanted to try this new Steakhouse restaurant. So the waiter comes over and we order drinks and then tell him our food orders. I'm a vegetarian and EVERYTHING on the menu was meat except the starter salad. The waiter goes around the table taking our orders and when I tell him I wanted the salad he said, "no sorry that's an appetizer and you can't have it for a meal." My mom tells him I'm a vegetarian and he gives me a weird look and says, "well why are you at a steakhouse restaurant?" We said it was my sister's birthday and we wanted to try it out. He again said that I had to choose something off the dinner menu. My dad then got up and said he wants to see the manager. Finally, the waiter said "okay she can have a stupid salad." 😂 When our food comes (1hour later btw) the waiter hands me my salad I see there's bacon bits in it, and he whispered "have fun picking those out." WORST RESTAURANT EVER!

I was on holiday when I was younger and it was the first time I had ordered my own food in a restaurant. I was really proud of myself and asked for steak. The waiter said "well-done?". I gave him a really smug smile and said "thank you" :') my family still don't let me live it down!

I don't know if I should laugh or cry. But you handled it so well! And I have a very limited range of motion in my right arm and, ironically, I intern for a company that teaches cooking classes! Probably my best story was when I was having one of my worse days (I can use my hand as kind of a claw to hold things steady, but today i couldn't) and I had to recruit one of the kids I was working with to hold the veggies steady while I was chopping things. (: Best thing was that she was having the time of her life, so I guess it was a win-win!

My niece's arms stops at the same place yours does, but on the other arm. I don't think I would personally be able to restrain myself if someone did that. Am I an over protective aunt? Maybe. But I am also physically disabled and I will raise hell when places aren't wheelchair accessible or get treated differently.

You guys seem so polite about it. You guys are so positive yet that was such an incredibly stupid and unreasonable situation. I think a lot of people would have handled it a lot differently but you guys are so chill. Good to see that you don't let others get ya down and continue to stay happy!

LOL I totally hear you Grace!! And you're right, you gotta have a sense of humour about it! I have had waitresses offer to cut my food for me, and pour drinks for me, whereas when I was younger I would be offended by this, now I just say "it's fine, whatever". The weirdest thing to ever happen to me was when I was in my early twenties and was followed out of the supermarket by a guy who wanted to give me a door mat because I was missing half my arm LOL, he actually had wanted to give me money, but didn't have any, but he happened to have a spare door mat .... there are some very interesting people out there 😂😂😂

I love these story time videos, it is so bizarre his some people react. I was at restaurant with my parents in the Catalan part of Spain up in the mountains where hardly anyone lives(we were also desperately trying to find a restaurant quickly because we were starving). We were trying to order in Spanish, but the waitress just kept on speaking in Catalan, and didn't help us at all. She kept on giving us weird looks. Because the menu was all in Catalan, we didn't really know what we ordered. She gave me my dads meal and my dads my meal, we realised half way through that I was eating the wrong thing. She also came with my mums meal and some other things that we didn't think we had ordered. Then when we got the bill, there were some stuff on it that we hadn't ordered. That was the worse restaurant experience I have had lol

The thing is the poor waiter didn't even know what to do because she thought he actually drank the refills even though she came over to our table like 17 times and the parents were completely oblivious to this. +Love the storytimes xx
