Remember that bad people don’t represent the whole country. I’ve been in Ecuador for almost 1 month and experience has been so good! The tourism board actually send me a letter of apology which was incredibly nice of them!

You're a legend Jorden. The same thing happened to my Italian friend in Florence, Italy. She is from Florence and was walking on the sidewalk while talking on her cellphone. A guy came buy on a bicycle and ripped the phone out of her hand. Like you, she lost her mind, and gave chase, but the guy was too fast and she couldn't catch him. My friend is a 59 year old woman and the guy was probably 30. She didn't care. Like you said it was fight or flight and she chose to fight.

The most common theft in South America. As a regular traveler and living in Colombia 6 months of the year I see it all the time. Tourists always are careless with their expensive electronics
Better advice is to use a cloud to autobackup pics and important things and have a travel insurance. Then just log on to find my phone and lock/erase it .. then u have everything when u need a new mail
A thing you need to remember if you ever go to ecuador is the fact that YOU NEVER pull your phone out in the street, since in the last few years the crime has increased by a lot. Edit: Some areas have more crime than others but still be careful as there is crime in pretty much every area
