I just talked to our local Haas rep (Ellison) and he said just the other day he finally got invited into a money-making shop that still had the ordered/provisioned Renishaw wireless probe sitting in a drawer! And your videos and content have totally matured especially with the top-notch people you have now in Texas.

I am cutting 4130, with a HAAS Mini-mill with 10 times the confidence, because you said its possible, then proceeded to do it, live. full depth, using Kennametals tooling, which isn't cheap, but it pays for itself rapidly. I have been thoroughly enjoying the videos for the past year, but this has been one of the more insightful and inspirational ones that's come out. I've been thinking about starting up a garage shop for the last few years and just never have heard how people are doing it or how you can get there.

College is not for everyone but I will say as someone currently enrolled in a Machine Tool Tech program at a university it is sometimes the only way in. Love what you guys do! Titans story was a major influence on me becoming a machinist. Thank you.

Very inspiring how you came up and the people who had faith in you is an awesome story. Can't wait to view the next podcast. You have changed a lot of peoples lives in a good way. If more people can take the same approach things would be a lot different. Much love and gratitude 💥 While listening to the story about Chicago reminded me of when we handled the Internet service for stub hub for the Ravens/49'ers superbowl. Long story short we were paid to stay around the clock from Fri-Sun for network support. We were talking with a police captain at the time and I asked him why was the pockets of crime allowed to come back into the city after hurricane katrina. He said "you don't understand... It is all about the money being generated by the system that funds everything else along with taxes". Granted, this is the opinion of one person but after that conversation I began to look at things a bit differently and it all made perfect sense.

Stumbled across an old forum because I was trying to find how a man like titan that is so easy to respect ended up in prison and the forum was asking if he was the real deal or just a poser who was full of bullshit. It’s really cool to see how one man changed a whole trade in under a decade

ive renovated my living room (concrete pad construction) into a machine shop, this podcast is real inspiring!!!

My first shop, knowing I had never run a CNC before, only provided one week of training. I had witnessed my trainer writing a program once, and helped him set up a fixture one time, but the rest of my "training" consisted of running production parts. My first shift by myself , I was given a job to set up and program. No fixture existed for the part, so I had to make one. It took 14 hours just to get a first piece done. When the plant manager arrived, he asked if I had learned anything. I told him I learned how to get my ass kicked all night long, and he said, "at least you learned something." I have never, during 20 years of machining, used software to write a program. I'm a dinosaur. I taught myself to write everything, G and M code, by hand. I only worked with that company for four months, but by the time I left, I had personally machined 23 fixtures and 10 5-axis tombstones, and a ridiculous number of small parts, having only crashed twice.

AI will never replace guys like you. Your enthusiasm is contagious.

Need more of these podcasts. Was great to hear the stories and the perspective of the guys. You guys kept talking about what I assume were the older workers who didn't want to change and now you have younger guys coming in hungry to learn and improve their craft. I personally have been told by my previous foremen and my father that I should leave and hop around to 1, get wage increases and 2, learn more from other shops. I blew their suggestions aside for years but this past year the company I work for has just made the job depressing. First issue is with higher ups deciding that they are going to be in charge of the shop but then don't want to do the job so it ends up falling on the guy who they think is too young (25yo) to take it anyways. Second, the same management is outsourcing jobs we used to do in-house for no reason. Last, I've gone up to management asking for them to buy a DN Solutions PUMA TT series machine to boost production and bring back work to be met with higher ups saying it would cost the company money. I must've saw a Tyson video or maybe I binged your vids last year and got inspired to start updating/upgrading so I did research on machines and already had the image in my head how I could flip our machining process with these machines. The first machine I wanted to get was the Puma TT so I contacted our local distributer to get all the info and setup a whole presentation to explain what the machine can do, and how I could setup ~90% of the lathe jobs to do everything in one op including all mill work. Also, barfeed jobs that usually took a week or more could be shaved down to less than half because there'd be no issue running it all night (right now the only machine we have with a barfeeder is a HAAS DS-30SSY which the 1 turret, smaller sub-spindle, and tiny part catch accumulator don't make it possible). I didn't want anything too crazy, just the machine, chucks, and the tool holders it came with (maybe a couple more standard holders but not much else). I first brought it up with other guys in the machine shop, which led to me talking to other experienced guys outside of the shop (foundry, grinding, assembly) in case we are bias. Not a single person thought it was a bad idea, they all saw the cost of the machine but understood that if it ran lights out then we'd make more money. When I presented it to the people in control of the money, I got shot down because they said it would cost some absurd amount and when I respond with the price of the base machine, chucks, and I only wanted to start with the live tooling given with the machine to prove it's worth before going all in, it was met with a 5 min list about how every little thing that could cost the company more money, including programing when we already run Doosan lathes... I ended up getting the "we'll (not including me) have to work out how long it'll take to pay it off before we decide." At my work, if the office has to make a decision it's already made because they will never make decisions.

So often you never get the stories behind the channels you love. Really looking forward to more deep dives into the industry and the lives changed by it!

This is great! I’m 18 just getting into the trade you guys inspired me and helped me get my technical schools shop running good again and develop curriculum. Now I’m working in a job shop and doing more cam training hoping to get on your level someday.

I live in Pittsburgh. I’m 50. I’ve seen manufacturing come and go from our area. We now have a lot of specialty manufacturing in our region. I’ve been machining for thirty years. I can walk out the door and get a new job in a heartbeat. I love what I do. I’m a habitual line crosser, I love pushing a machine to its limits. If I’m not running 90% spindle load, I’m not satisfied 😂

Great podcast. I look forward to the next one. I'm a new 63 year old CNC machinist getting started in the garage of my house on a 2011 Sharp SV-2412SX. I've been a software engineer since '86. I'll retire from programming within the next few years. But I'm not the type to sit around the pool sipping on Piña coladas until they put me in the ground. Instead I plan on being one of those garage stories you spoke about @42:05. And when my time is up, hopefully I'll have a legit business I can pass on to my son if he wants it, or some other ambitious young person who wants to keep it going. When I hear Titan and his team, I always walk away uplifted and encouraged. Thanks guys.

Good to hear the beginnings. Sounds so much like myself. Been running my shop now for 18 years now. Doing aerospace, oilfield and hydraulic industies. Full sevice 5 axis machine shop. Inconel , monel, duplex SS is my normal.

The most INCREDIBLE thing with this channel is NO ONE can keep up with everything new that comes out. I worked at a CNC company that made aircraft parts. Their still in 1990 , Some parts were so painful that they made boxes for jobs. We would put in the last drill bit, mill bits, jigs in a box to repeat later. We did the wire ties the old way. and the crazy thing is we tried 10 different drill bit companies and only one of the cheaper bits lasted the longest, All Leblond Makino and Mori Seiki CNC machines. now 5 Axis or higher.

I remember working with you at AMS. I was also with you the day Maui past. I'm proud of you and what you have become. Keep up the amazing work.

Love your vids guys. I'm transitioning from the IT field & am almost done w/ my Machinist Tech course at Tulsa Technology Center, where our instructors utilize RU-vid for general lectures or overviews of machines, general programing, & even reference your videos to show potential. We hit manuals, CNC 3, 4, & 5 axis mills & up to 3 axis lathes & get to test on at least six NIMS certifications from operator to programmer & general safety of course. Got Okuma, Takamatsu, Doosan, Haas, RoboDrill, Fryer, Mori Seiki & Mazaks for our CNCs w/ Whacheon & Bridgeports for our manuals. Best in Oklahoma for sure. Since I started this course in January, I've been falling in love w/ it. Can't wait to get out to workforce & just keep going. Use your resources for sure. I've been using calculators & online resources to push my programs to the max RPM or SFM these machines can go within limits of tooling & material &, even though my instructors are impressed, they still want me to slow it down. lol Always looking for the most efficient way to get the job done w/ quality.

I e learned a lot from your videos. And still watch to see the next thing I may can apply in my work place. Sad part is I run more than others and the technique is not applied to other machines. My foreman attempted to get me a raise and was told I wasn’t getting paid to think! Roll on Titans of CNC!!!

I havent been machining for quite 2 years yet, started at 19 but I absolutely love it. This is absolutely crazy to hear. I'm running a mighty viper bridge mill with 158.00 x, 106.00 y, and 43.00 z, 90° head. Running large steel weldments, often filling the whole table, lots of set up time, shimming and finding twist and just learning how to machine. Getting pretty good, often holding tenths on lengths and widths and bores and depths, print standard in my shop calls for .002 per 10 feet flatness, but often get dimensions for .0005 on flatness, parallelism, and perpendicular. I ran mazak and mazatrol for over a year before moving to this big machine, so I am comfortable programming myself, and have studied and now understand g/m code, but we have programmers for that so I don't get to anymore. Frustrating to hear and see the speed and feeds cutters and tools should actually be ran at, often have 1 inch endmills running and 400 rpm and 7 ipm and its just painfully slow. I'm an insanely fast learner but theres no other shops in my area, so basically what I'm saying is fly me out to titans so I can be as great as you guys. Its hard being the only person in this shop that wants to get stuff done, the rest just want to have the work day over with

So many of the things you discussed resonated with my experiences in this industry. I’ve been a CNC machinist for almost 40 years now and still hunger to learn more. I find myself constantly frustrated by the whole “we’ve always done it this way and it works” mentality. I had a job we used to make that constantly broke tools and had a 47 minute cycle time on a good run that I got down to 13 minutes and still had original tools left at the end of a 500 part run. People didn’t like it and the programs and setups all magically disappeared and I was told they didn’t like it to be too quick. The company has always struggled financially and you can understand why. Also, I got a job because during the interview I was handed a complex part and I was the first person who picked it up and didn’t say “how the hell do you make that?” So that method of interview assessment is a very valid way of picking better candidates. I’m from the UK and what you discuss is totally relevant to here too.

I took some machining classes in high school. CNC wasn't around then so we had to grind cutting tools, dress grinders, use a book to figure out cutting speeds for certain metal. When cutting threads, we had what was called measurement over wires, etc.

Sometimes when you work at a shop you do not know what the part is you are working on, years later I found out that it was for the SR-71 landing gear, just the titanium billet cost $60,000 before any machining.

I know nothing basically about running a cnc mill yet I’m currently building a cnc mini milling machine lol it’s just for around the garage no real need or plans for it. But will be nice when certain things are needed.

Its hot in texas but we have killer weather in the spring and fall and winters are mild.

So I’m obsessed with machining I found y’all out of thin air last week I enrolled In a trade program to learn cnc basics and hands on operations and I’m going through the academy adamantly the next nine months I want to do something I love and I want to make the most precision machines knives and guns that are possible and I want to know if I could ask questions and get advice?
