Funny how everyone forgets the criticism leveled at the first movie. That's not any faithful representation of the Joker. There was no Batman. Some wondered if the events actually happened. It wasn't tied into a cinematic universe. It was basically Taxi Driver and other Scorsese films chopped together. It was just a sad clown with mental health problems. Too dark. I remember all the criticism. And the audience remembered them too!
They gave us the Joker origin movie a few years ago. They gave us the reintroduction of Batman with Patterson a few years ago. Both movies had a serious and similar tone to them. Joker 2 was a premium opportunity for DC studios to include Robert Patterson's Batman and Phoenix's Joker together in a fantastic movie. It is bizarre that DC studios and the producers did not see this opportunity.
Hollywood + comics is a double edged sword. If they get it right, you're laughing, if they get it wrong, your keys tank. And sadly, they mostly get it wrong. The issue is most of them have never read a comic.
The first movie was ok but by the end of it you realised most of it was in Joker's head. He didn't really have a relationship with his neighbor lady, so I thought this would be another dream. And I didn't go see it.
The only industry that makes quality movies with music numbers in them is Bollywood/South India. Tamil, Telugu, Kerala, and Malayalam movies hit on a different level. Minnal Murani is an AMAZING superhero movie starring Tovino Thomas that has no item numbers but blows away most of what we get fed here in America. They respect the intelligence of the viewer, they don't produce writer's room scripts by committee that fall flat. All they do is focus on letting us escape our reality and enter into their fantasy world. And Tumbbad might be the absolute best horror film I have ever seen. Don't waste your time on American entertainment- it's no longer entertaining.
This series could have developed into an awesome "twist" on the Batman genre... now it can be thrown into the trash. Oh well... there is something going viral on Twitter about spitting in the faces of the fans of the first movie.
Exactly, kind of like this video itself. 🤦🏻♂️ Please, begin watching this video @ 9:11, trust. It will contain (basically) everything you really want out of this vid NEway. *NEVERforget *coincidence
Hi David will they recoup any money from streaming dollars and dvd sales at retail? Or is that such a small number that if you don’t get it through the Box Office you’re pretty much done? Thanks!
Any physical sales is so small it won’t matter. They do make money off vod and then streaming rights. But since it’s wb it will just go on hbo max. Which is their own platform. So it won’t make any money there. If they sell the rights for a limited time to someone like Netflix. Then they can make around 10-50 million. Depending on how long and how much demand there is for the movie. But being that no one likes this one. Probably not a lot
The real joke is on those viewers who believed the first Joker movie was about a man who becomes the real Joker villain. It never was intended to be that. People’s reactions are because they wanted the true villain in the sequel but the director never did. The director knew actually what he was doing. The ending was his way of sticking it to the staunch Joker fan base. He succeeded based on the overall reaction. Even though the movie was very weird and unsatisfying, I did think that Joaquin Phoenix was outstanding in playing a role that was very difficult to pull off.
The only way is to change everything that was good about the first movie and throw in a heap of contempt for your audience! If the people in hollywood that want/care about making $$$ don't seize back control soon hollywood may never recover! Imho!
WB could probably make bank doing stand alone Elseworlds style movies like The Joker or The Batman in addition to their "universe" movies but studio heads will always want to turn that singular success into a franchise. Give writers and directors a decent budget and let them play with characters.
Dude...the fact that they turned it into a musical should have been the first warning. I bailed as soon as I heard that trash. Then... The story and how they did the characters...trash
The concept of another Joker was dumb. A series of Batman flicks where he is a Jack Reacher kick ass blue collar type with no rich boy gadgets, it can be HUGE.
I didn't even like the first movie, but I know that I am an outlier in that. I thought the first movie was horrible, in fact I thought it was one of the worse movies I have ever seen. I even think the Amazon Lord of the Rings series is superior to it! haha. The acting in the first movie was subpar (no change in emotion, nothing really challenging on the acting front, moving your arms slowly around does not deserve an oscar, so very much over-rated! you could pull any random person off the street and he would of done a similar acting job in that movie). The story was not new, it was recycled from movies that we have seen before. All in all such an over-rated first movie. I never had any plans to see the sequel. In contrast the Heath Ledger Joker was spectacular, mind blowing, one of the best performances of all time and well deserving of an oscar. Just my opinion.
Not going to lie, the moment I found out it was a musical I lost all interest. Glad I followed my gut, haven't seen it yet. To be honest I didn't like the first one as much as everyone else. My reason is I don't care enough about Joker sans Batman swooping in at some point. I like the Batman universe because of Batman... I'm weird like that.
