Hey 👋🏻 as it turns out the AirPods Max headband is removable which means that I was wrong in my initial impressions video. This is great news, but it brings a lot of questions, like - will third-party companies be able to create custom headbands, can the AirPods work without the headband and will Apple be selling replacement headbands in the future? All this and more, in the video.

Wow, that is amazing the fact that Apple designed these headphones like this with replaceable headband and earcups. I've also seen a video where the Max almost stops charging when the battery reaches 90%...probably to preserve battery health!

Headphone headbands and earpads are user replaceable since the 70's... And replacements for stuff like Sennheiser cost 5 dollars. Apple fans really are ridiculous sometimes. Studio headphones live for 40 years. This crap will be obsolete in 3 years. People already are buying covers for them, because Apple doesn't allow replacements...

That’s sooooo awesome! That means I can wash the headband much easier if it gets dirty. And the whole power thing is amazing! I dislike that everything is loosing the power button, but I live with it. This so eye opening!

This is so cool! I’m guessing one of the reasons they don’t work without the band is that it’s actually routing power between the earcups. I think Quin over at SnazzyLabs (and iFixit for that matter) reported that there are only batteries in one earcup. What a cool overengineering thing though, this is extra AF! Thanks for the cool video.

Actually, IFIXIT did a tear down of AirPods Max and made that info available to all including the part about the removable headband.

Those connectors seems really simple. I’m sure we’ll see third party headbands soon. Also, damn.. hate to admit it, but that’s some good engineering right there.

To be honest - I am happy that I found this video. I love my AirPods Max so far. And I love the fact that I can replace earpads so easily. Now I wasn't sure about the headband at the beginning. But after watching this video I am happy to know that even the headband is replaceable. At least in theory. Of course it's only a speculation whether there will be a replacement for that component officially offered by Apple. But history has shown that 3rd party manufacturers at some point will be able to offer replacement parts even for AirPods Max. I mean if there are very precise fake copies of AirPods Max, which come with reverse engineered accessory pairing process of Apple, nothing will stop asian market to reverse engineer the headband design too. If not even produce the very same design at much lower cost with lower quality.
