The twist with Ocelot is he was working for the Americans all along. He was your real contact, Adam. Eva showed up first, she was working for the Chinese, Snake thought she was his contact.

Ocelot was twisting his arm with every shot like he saw in cowboy movies. This works with revolvers, but fucks up the semiauto guns. He tried to shoot big boss but a bullet got caught in the slide. Instead of shooting him, Big Boss showed him how to clear the jam, and suggested he use revolvers from then on to avoid this. He keeps doing this, teaching ocelot how to be a better soldier instead of killing him. Because he can't die, because this is a prequel and he's in the other games. And yes, the ladder is long enough to play an acoustic cover of the theme song. The entire theme song. And this is essentially a bond film. Weird Minions with unexplained powers is normal, here.

Just a reminder that Revolver Ocelot's animations are live animations via suit, so someone had to actually do those tricks.

The End is rightfully considered one of the best boss fights of all time, and even if the rest of MGS3 wasn't great, it would still be worth it. Same with The Boss at the end of the game. Fun fact: During the fight with The Sorrow, if you killed a vulture that was feeding on a dead soldier, and then ate that vulture, the dead soldier will accuse you of feeding from him. Also, if you kill Ocelot in the one chance you legitimately get to do so, you get a Game Over telling you you've created a time paradox. It's pretty funny.

Yes, there is an actual ladder that when you climb it, it takes so long that it plays the main theme of the game, which is also called snake eater.

So, Revolver Ocelot is The Boss's son from her and The Sorrow. He was born via C-Section on the beaches of Normandy (yes, during the WWII battle) and was immediately disappeared from the field hospital by a group called The Wisemen's Committee. Think WWII-era world Illuminati. Because The Boss was such a legendary soldier they presumed her son would be too, and was also a valuable bargaining chip to keep her in line. She ends up assassinating The Sorrow on the very bridge Snake gets thrown off during this video because they threaten Ocelot's life. Eventually when post-war tensions began to flare up and The Wisemen's Committee broke apart, there was a massive stash of cash floating around titled The Philosopher's Legacy. It's stored on a microfiche which is like a photograph of data or something?? The US wants it, the Soviets want it, China wants it. So when it turns out one of the Wisemen dropped the Legacy in his son's lap, that's what kicks off the events of the game. Colonel Volgin is the kid holding the Legacy, all grown up and wanting to use it for his own ends. The US orchestrates a fake defection by The Boss, sending her out with two Davey Crockett mini-nukes and launcher. However, Volgin actually uses them and sparks even greater tensions leading to the Cuban Missile Crisis later on. For now though, the CCCP demands the death of The Boss - ignorant of her double-agent status. So Snake is sent in to kill her after the recovery of Sokolov fails (the mission was just a cover to get The Boss in with Volgin) and ensure he retrieves the Legacy for the US. They can't just extract The Boss because the Soviets never knew about the ploy and think she's actually a war criminal so the US disavows her - which ties into the central theme of soldiers as disposable tools and "the enemy" being a completely ephemeral concept. So when Snake goes back in to kill her after his initial failure to extract Sokolov, China intervenes in the CIA operation and replaces codename EVA with their own agent. The second CIA agent, ADAM, is actually Ocelot. After growing up in the custody of the former US Wisemen, he's become a CIA agent and is supposed to help Snake kill his mum and get the Legacy back to the US. Which is why the whole game long he's just fucking around with Snake to maintain his cover as a GRU major. However, he does actually try to sniff EVA out as a spy and kill her because she's a Chinese agent. Snake has no clue about any of this the entire time and only finds out after killing Volgin, The Boss, recovering the Legacy and escaping after one last game of quickdraw Russian Roulette with Ocelot. He spends an evening with EVA romantically boning on a rug in front of a fire and then in the morning, awakens to find her gone with the Legacy. Snake then returns to the US, meets the President and is awarded a medal for killing his surrogate mother and mentor and solidifying her post-mortem reputation as a defector and war-criminal during the height of the Red Scare. He also learns that literally everyone except him (and his support team) were in on all of this the whole time and he was just getting jerked around. So he decides to leave the US and start his own band of soldiers, interpreting The Boss's last words and teachings as a philosophy of "soldiers should be free to fight and die on their own terms without oversight or being controlled by the state". This misinterpretation of her personal beliefs is the foundation for a lot of tragedies and events in the rest of the series. The Boss's *actual* belief was that soldiers should choose to fight, but hold fast to their honour as soldiers by obeying orders and making personal sacrifices for what they want to protect, be it a country or whatever. She also believed that there's no such thing as a permanent enemy or friend, and to hate/love people just because they currently oppose/ally with you is shortsighted. Her time in space (yeah she went to space don't worry about it) inspired in her the additional dream of the world united as one single people, a belief that was twisted by Major Zero (Snake's commander during MGS3) into being about uniting the world under a single person and a single will to direct humanity by. Essentially, every single thing that happens in Metal Gear Solid as a series is because two dudes had no clue what The Boss believed in. Though, when Snake dies at her grave many years later, he does finally understand that her ultimate desire was for the world to achieve a perfect unity via co-operation and not control, and all the people of the world should respect the will of others while holding true to their own. A utopian optimism of true harmony, basically. EDIT: Oh and before I forget: every single thing that may have went wrong, needed "cleaning" or covering up at all during Snake's successful mission in MGS3? All of that was handled by Skull Face, another CIA agent who was shadowing Snake through the entire duration of the mission and was never detected by anyone which directly led to his hatred of Snake because he couldn't handle being second fiddle. According to MGSV. What a retcon!

Revolver Ocelot (or his younger self, Major Ocelot; the guy with the revolver, obviously) is a multi agent that aids Naked Snake. In MGS3, he leads a GRU unit called the Ocelot Unit. If you remembered the MGSV reaction, he’s also the guy on the horse at the beginning of the video. I’ll leave it there since I’m lazy to explain Ocelot’s role in MGS 1, MGS 2, and MGS 4. Yes, I’m going by chronological order.

Revolver ocelot is by far the most important character for the entire series, even more prominent than any of the snakes. He is the cause and driving force behind every event. As for palpatine, he and the major snake was disgusted as were in a relationship

The boss defects to the Soviet union and all those weird bosses were her squad mates back when she was on the field. The pain literally just has a load of wasps that can carry him around. Palpatine and the guy snake was impersonating in the base were a little to close in friendship so when he grabbed his balls he instantly knew he was an imposter lol. As far as the story goes, what he was referring to as the only fans is called the philosophers legacy. On that chip is all the records of all the major players in the war business and all the money is on it. The boss defected under orders of the United States to infiltrate and take back the philosophers legacy and the end fight where you kill her she is explaining what she did and why. Then tells you to kill her so you can be viewed as a hero

What is happening in mgs3? Lots of convoluted conspiracies and various secret agencies and mercenary companies backstabbing eachother while also possessing secret weapons ranging from giant tanks and mech walkers that can deploy nuclear weapons to parasite enhanced super soldiers and psychics. Also yes climbing that ladder takes enough time for the game's main theme song to play, if you ever see jokes about snakes around very long ladders in a game (ie somone leaving a message in elden ring saying "likely snake" or somthing similar) it's a reference to this odd piece of game design.

Funny thing is: the actual story in MGS 3 is even more batshit insane than Max0r makes it seem. lol And we love it for that. But I'll take a stab at answering some questions Kit has. There's a lot going on at any given time, but one of the key points is surrounding the Boss' philosophy she develops after WWII and in particular after having to assassinate The Sorrow who is the father of her child, that child being Ocelot. After fighting in WWII where there were seemingly definite allies and enemies the Boss has her worldview challenged because The Sorrow is Russian and now an enemy, someone she loved, is now an enemy. After killing him she develops a mindset that enemies are never permanent and only relative to the circumstances at the time, perpetual enmity is meaningless. To that end, she wished to bring about a world where people were no longer divided based on the borders on a map. The details of how to achieve that or how it would work was not expanded on by her as she was killed by Naked Snake at the end of his mission. Which is when you find out she was only feigning defection to the Soviets and that she was still deeply patriotic for the country and people of the US, not its government, whom by this point she despised. Naked Snake aka "Jack", was one of her students as The Boss aka The Joy, ran a commando unit known as The Cobra Unit. Formed in 1942 during the battle of Stalingrad. It was multinational and consisted of herself, The Sorrow, The Pain, The End, The Fury and The Fear. Effectively this universe's Suicide Squad, with the members being superhuman in some regard. Each member embodying a certain "aspect" on the battlefield. The Joy is both the leader and was known for being ecstatic during fights, The Sorrow was a medium who communicated with the dead (among other powers), The Pain specialized in infiltration and had bees that lived within his body, The End was a sniper who could sustain his life through photosynthesis and had the better part of a century of experience (born in the 1860s), The Fury was a pyromancer and astronaut that suffered a horrible accident on reentry, The Fear was a master at stealth hence his optical camo, as well as being double jointed and able to consume rotting food with no ill effects. The Boss was forced to kill The Sorrow by a group known as The Philosophers, of which she was the daughter of one of its members. The members being a secret group of the most influential people in the US, having split off from The Wiseman's (formed after WWI) council which was comprised of members from the Soviet Union, UK, China, US, etc. The Philosophers threatened to kill Ocelot (The Boss and The Sorrow's son) if she did not kill The Sorrow. That was in 1962 during the Cuba Missile Crisis. In one of the starting areas of the game, you can even find his remains, after she tosses Snake off the bridge. Snake had studied under The Boss after The Cobra Unit was disbanded. He became her student during the Korean war and would fight in that war as well. Their relationship wasn't only student-master, but romantic too. He was present during the Castle Bravo incident, exposure to the radiation renders him sterile. He would go on to train with US Army Special Forces and go on missions in South East Asia. At some point becoming part of the CIAs experimental FOX unit. The Virtuous Mission, the game's tutorial/intro, is a demonstration for the CIA higher ups to give the full greenlight for the unit. Major Zero was the commander of FOX at this time, its first commander. He had been a close friend of The Boss during the early phases of WWII, conducting raids in Egypt and such, including with the SAS. Zero would go on to work with MI6 and then the CIA. FOX is one of his pet projects. Snake and Zero are also friends at this point. As for Sokolov and the Shagohod (Treading Behemoth), it represents an unacceptable shift in nuclear proliferation as far as the US is concerned. In 1964, there were no ICBMs yet, only IRBMs (Intermediate Range Ballistic Missiles), the US mainland was not under direct threat because it was out of the Soviet's range, which is why the Cuban Missile Crisis kicked off to begin with. The entire concept behind the Shagohod is to act as the first stage of a ballistic missile, it accelerates to 300mph then fires a missile, needing only a 3 mile runway to speed up and then decelerate. This increased the range enough to strike the US directly, meaning it had to be destroyed. Sokolov was highly fearful of Volgin and didn't want the Shagohod falling into his hands, which is why he reached out to Zero to be smuggled out of the USSR as he was critical in completing the project. This is just a brief synopsis of some events. There's a lot more going on. And its spread out over more than just MGS3. lol I didn't want to write an entire thesis paper for you yet.

Neat little tidbit: You might notice that after Ocelot shoots out Snakes eye that the first person view looks a little weird when you look side to side. That is because the devs offset the camera to one side to reflect that he can only see through one eye.

If you pay attention to MGS1 and MGS5 you can see the contrast between Volgin and Ocelot interrogating. Volgin is a disaster when questioning his prisoners, so lost in his delight of torture and suffering he doesn't realize he gives away information instead of getting it (he spilled the beans of where he hid his money in front of Ocelot, Eva, The Boss and Snake). While Ocelot liked the display of torture, he is much better at interrogation than him. In MGS1 he got Kenneth Baker to give his launch code by breaking his arm and in MGS5 he knows exactly how to torture Huey to get the answers Big Boss needs. Volgin tortures people so much, he ends up killing most of them. We see Ocelot kill via torture only once (not counting the bad ending in MGS1), and that time it was because the prisoner knew who he really was and would have jeopardized his agenda.

The game is so meta that you get a game over for causing the time-line to collapse for killing our revolver boi. Even a certain somebody, who Snake meets later in his years, voices his concern AND IS NOT EVEN NAMED IN THE CREDITS.

The entire story and character of The Boss in the game is so genius and heartbreaking that literal grown men break down crying at the end. You have to play it yourself to understand just how powerful the message is at the end. All I can say is I wish me and my brother were old enough to fully understand the context at the time when I watched him play through it.

27:23 This is something I noticed when I was doing an English paper on Metal Gear Solid 3. My friend did his on Metal Gear Rising. We brought up a lot of similar points. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was not written by Hideo Kojima. It's an imitation of his vision. Narratively, it's the poorest canonical entry in the franchise. It is stupid fun, though.

My time to shine: They don't kill ocelot because and I quote "He's still young". But the real reason he's in MGS2 which takes place in a more modern setting so he can't die for continuity reasons. They have a lot of money. They are also responsible for most of what happens in the Metal Gear franchise. Yes the Sorrow boss does in fact throw every guard you killed back at you including the bosses. So this is either a tricky avoidance game or a cake walk if you go the non-lethal playthrough. Yes the MGS (in numerous installments) does try to hint that killing is not good that will effect the game in some way. Ocelot significance he is actually the the agent Snake was suppose to meet. He also happens to be the son (biological) of the Boss and the Sorrow. It is also heavily implied in later games that Ocelot does have a romantic attraction to Naked Snake(Big Boss) Short summary: Mission to Siberia to extract the scientist behind that rocket propelled nuclear tank goes wrong because the Boss defects with two American Davy Crocket nuclear war heads(These are real they were meant to fired off jeeps for anti-tank column purposes) and her crack team of commandos with freaky skills that helped her win WWII. The colonel uses one to blow up the research base to burn the plans of the tank and incriminate the US, also he's an asshole. All this happens during an internal power struggle in the USSR A week later we're back in action. Snake is sent to recover the scientist, destroy the tank, and confont the Boss for her treachery. He almost immediately meets with boss who pretty much instantly makes the mission go sideways but snake escapes meet up with their contact who gifts him THE M1911a1 (This is the only way to describe this scene). So Snake continues his mission sneaking/fighting his way through guards, facing ocelot, the merry band of WWII misfits and climbing THE LADDER. infiltrates the base, impersonates an officer reaches the scientist and then things go sideways. He gets tortured, loses an eye, and is imprisoned. He escapes. Dies. Faces the Sorrow, then dies in there which then un-kills him. I'm not joking... Meets up with Eve where he rest and recuperates before heading back to the base. He sneaks into the hanger sets the bombs fights the colonel before escaping cue the chase, tank and the annoying escort section. He then faces the final boss which just so happens to be The Boss. There fight is emotional as much as physical in a way I can't put into words. At the end during Snakes victory she reveals she didn't actually defect that first mission was a way for her to infiltrate Volgin's inner circle to find out the philosophers bank information and sabotage the tank. But that went sideways when he used that Davy Crockett to destroy the base. She knew then that in order to make things right she needed to die here and Snake had to be the one to do it. This was the true reason behind the mission. She had to sacrifice her honor and her life for her country and her pupil who was close enough to be a son to her. They return home, Eve leaves him because she's actually an agent for the Chinese and it turns out Ocelot was suppose to be the contact. Snake is congratulated for a job well done. But all he feels is betrayed by absolutely everyone. By Eve, his commander, his country and mourning the loss of his mentor/mother figure. He then goes off to pioneer the modern PMC business. Which is another story.
