And even then...most comments are against Louis... but Lestat just went through a phase... when he beat the hell out of Louis... but people go nuts with Louis talking down to the interviewer "how dare he" Lestat beats someone he claims to love( "how come Louis didn't see that??!!!) Wowww... black man is guilty no matter what
@GopherCakeStuff
@GopherCakeStuff Год назад
@@kevinlowe4953 exactly. They're like Louis should stop crying about missing his family it's making Lestat sad, but Lestat didn't tell him what being a vampire would entail before changing him. He was there for his family for 33 years, he's just supposed to let that go cause Lestat said so? And about turning Claudia, yeah, Louis begged, but Lestat is 150 years old and knows the vampire rules. If he were a well adjusted man he would have simply said no to Louis. So Louis does get to say 'we' whenever it comes to Claudia. 'Lestat wouldn't have cheated if Louis were more emotionally available/wasn't drpressed" 😖 Him and Louis had already had a conversation about affairs outside their relationship. Lestat was the one who said he didn't want to share and that the main issue was Louis having a history with Jonah but he goes and does the same thing (repeatedly). Louis only retaliates as far as I can see.

@galaxylucia1898 Год назад
No, some of us TOTALLY SAW the narcissistic and manipulative behavior of Lestat, but it was in the love-bombing phase so it was “cute.” But NOTHING justifies the physical abuse and violence Louis endured. Yes, he may have emotionally wounded Lestat’s ego, but there is no excuse for physical violence ever. Louis played a part of their toxic, dysfunctional relationship, but I will NEVER blame Louis for Lestat’s violent behavior.
@Luusie
@Luusie Год назад
I think most people were (like Louis) bamboozled into thinking Lestat wasn't THAT bad when he very clearly has always been this bad (he literally throws human Louis across the church in between crushing two priest). Which is honestly a credit to the writing and acting because you better know all that was intentional. But people don't want to admit they were wrong/bamboozled so they jump to defend Lestat. We're all in an abusive relationship with Lestat but some people don't want to face up to that (and some people are just plain racist/scary). Episode 6 IS a super good follow-up to this one, but I'm honestly worried by how many people are still rooting for Lestat after that. The show makes it very clear that that man needs to go.
@shalayahomebodytv
@shalayahomebodytv Год назад
@@GopherCakeStuff I agree on the Lestat part. But I do think Louis needs to take more blame for the Claudia turning part. Sure if Lestat was a complete person he would've told Louis no, but Louis knows Lestat is a manipulator. It's one of the reasons he left. My problem with Louis is he himself, is going through issues with transitioning into a vampire. He knows what it's like to not be told everything before turning. So why would he do that to a child. He was just as selfish as Lestat in this moment. He wanted someone to help in his loneliness like Lestat wanted him for. He brought Claudia back to Lestat, after he just broke up with him. Why? Because he wanted a companion (like Lestat) he thought he could bond with, but much like himself with Lestat, Claudia didn't act the way he thought she would. In the end he handles it much better by accepting Claudia for who she is, which is what Lestat could never give him. But in the end he put a child in the middle of his abusive relationship hoping she could change things. Not his best moment.

No, episode 6 was the perfect follow up to episode 5 😩 I’m genuinely still in shock from episode 5, but the next episode really showed that the writers are WRITING!!! It really develops Louis and Claudia’s relationship and moves the plot forward
@BrittnyShrub
@BrittnyShrub Год назад
I honestly don't think the book was any better. Lestat implied that he would kill Claudia if Louis stepped out of line the moment Lestat made her. Louis lived in fear of Lestat's rages so much so that he would hold back his opinions about stupid things like liking a play! Louis lived in constant fear in the book. It felt like holding your breath for 100 years. And the love was much less explored in the book than the show so there was no love bombing or fun until Claudia. Lestat may not have beat Louis and Claudia but he kept them linked to him in fear saying that he made them and could unmake them. Emotional abuse like this, living in fear that you might be killed in some horrible way or that your daughter might for 60 years?! Not better than the show IMO. Just a different kind of abuse. The book leaves more room for Lestat's POV in later books to be much less sinister than how he presented himself to Louis and Claudia, but their experience in the first book is horrible because of Lestat's lies and SILENCE and antagonism.
@NyikoDoris
@NyikoDoris Год назад
RIGHT. PROTECT LOUIS (AND CLAUDIA) AT ALL COSTS! The writers showing it from Claudia’s point of view instead of Louis’s (until they fly) is insane writing and makes sense to me, because yeah, up to this point Lestat has shown signs of EMOTIONAL abuse but because Louis himself downplayed the isolation when Lestat killed the one person Louis found refuge in (Lily) and the manipulation in ep 1&2, he would obviously try and downplay when it turns physical so having us see it through Claudia’s eyes drives home just how bad it actually was. Because remember Louis himself is adamant that he wasn’t a victim, but when you see through the eyes of the child, watching as your ‘father’ physically abuses your ‘mother’ drives home just how romanticised Louis tells his and Lestat’s story.
@JessimusPrime
@JessimusPrime Год назад
Claudia could have also made it worst because she was so frightened. Lestat never wears black and now that day he has a whole black on black fit? I’m not excusing Lestat for what he did because something did happened and that’s gross, but Lestat didn’t snapped out of nowhere. Louis has his bag of mess too.
@shalayahomebodytv
@shalayahomebodytv Год назад
Not saying the whole situation wasn't tense, and Claudia was triggering but Lestats a whole 150 yr old grown vampire. Compared to him Claudia is a child. Lestat shouldn't have snapped like that. Yell and throw something maybe but not that beat down
@NyikoDoris
@NyikoDoris Год назад
@@JessimusPrime okay what did Louis do that warrants him being beaten to a pulp? Not love him in an obsessive way? Snipe at Lestat? Defend Claudia? None of us are claiming Louis is an angel however the clear power imbalance between Loustat has been there since the beginning and Lestat’s violent nature has always been obvious.
@corpeter
@corpeter Год назад
@@JessimusPrime the writers sure are playing with the POV here. Lestat sure will not have looked so much the perfectly unruffeled villain after that fight (especiall saying during the fight - cheri let us not fight this way, do not come at me - sounds like Louis was fighting back a bit at least) Yet however worsened Claudia might have depicted it, there is no doubt that it happend. Louis also does not contradict her story. And whatever faults Louis has in the relation not working and breaking apart - nothing ever excuses the way Lestat snapped. Since he is depicted as only seeing himself and patheticly running around screaming love me, love me - there is nothing endearing about it. For now he snapped because he cannot deal with not being the one and only. So no excuse whatsoever. And I say that as a book Lestat fan - why show, why did you have to go this way.
@JessimusPrime
@JessimusPrime Год назад
@@NyikoDoris There’s no justification for what happened to Louis, and I hate that Lestat did that. Outside of that, all Lestat does is enabling Louis even though he shouldn’t, even warns him about it, but does it anyway just to please him and it blows up in his face. Buying Fairplay and how that turned out, making Claudia because Louis wanted to feel better about himself. Louis was so hung up on how *he* was feeling when Claudia left, he couldn’t even give her the space to figure her things out. Sent so many mind text her way he unknowingly sent Bruce her way. For 7 years he was like that, blank, obsessing over finding Claudia, who didn’t want to be found. Lestat stayed when he could have easily walked. Maybe he should have because you can’t help people who don’t want to be helped and that wasn’t fair treatment for him from Louis. But Lestat wasn’t going to abandon him, since he hates that himself. Lestat is overtly messy and Louis is covertly messy. They’re all broken people.

I couldn't agree more. Both my parents escaped abusive marriages, so this was hard to watch. It's not physically abusive in the book, but Anne Rice (the author) and her son were directly involved with the show, so she clearly thought it was in the realm of possibility for her characters to do this. She was the kind of woman who wouldn't let her stamp of approval be put on something that betrayed her vision. Thus, why the movies based on her work she wasn't involved in are trash. Anne Rice was an ally queen, may she rest in peace.

It took me and so many ppl off guard because being toxic doesn't automatically mean physically violent. Usually if there's physical violence in a relationship, there's a build up. It doesn't go from 0-1000 in a single moment. So if the writers sprinkled in scenes where Lestat was physically aggressive to Louis, manhandled him. Or slapped him etc, building up to this, then we would've been better prepared. Still upset of course, but we wouldn't have been so blindsided and triggered

I saw people say she was "ruining things" and it's like ... no ... Louis was literally breaking up with Lestat before finding her. She's the reason they stayed together. Even Louis staying in the house after she left was probably at least in part because he was waiting for her ! And it's telling how Lestat says "remember how happy we were before her", he was delusional and some people just run with him on that one lol. Claudia is their victim, she never asked for this. Like sure, she is a monster too but i don't care what she does to Louis and Lestat specifically. They brought that on themselves. Love your review, agree on everything. I feel you on hesitating about the rest of the series, or Lestat's character: DV is extremely well-captured on the show, and that's triggering as hell. On the other hand, I think it's really worthwhile to have this depicted, as a conversation piece and something you can point to. The vampire metaphor always runs the risk of glamorizing it (two attractive actors, playing characters who are "fated together"), but in that case, it really shows - the culpability of Claudia seeing her parents fight over her own clumsy attempts to deal with the toxic household, Louis seeming blind or passive because he wants to protect Claudia, and Lestat still thinking it's all about his own trauma and lack of love ("look what you're making me do to you"). Domestic abuse is litteraly when love excuses bloodshed, and that's something a vampire show must serve to warn against - putting the signs out there so the red flags flash in your mind if you see them in real life. (The next episode will sadly be a great deal focused on the relapse into the toxic bond...)

True, Louis doesn't need Lestat for anything, nothing at all! He is in this relationship because, as incredible as it may seem, he has love for Blondie. And as hard as it is to believe, Lestat loves his Prince with such ardor that it borders on madness! If Louis leaves him, Lestat becomes more dangerous than he already is, capable of even killing him in the worst way, then killing himself, because just thinking about it, he turned into a horrible demon!

This is horrible and I love it (as fiction). The 1st book in Louis' pov depicted Lestat as cruel but subsequent books basically disproved Louis as lying, and Lestat actually being all good and always right and justified, which I HATED. The series corrected this. Yes, Louis still lies (mostly to himself), but no Lestat is not the golden hero slandered by a bitter drama queen ex. Makes the whole story more nuanced and make way more sense. And makes sure even the most oblivous viewer understands this relationship is toxic.

@@thevenusian1314 I don't think he was choking him, I think he was feeding on him. Because while we don't see all of the abuse when they were downstairs, as it's from Claudias POV and she couldn't see all of it. There wasn't any discernable point where Lestat was feeding on him, while beating him, downstairs. Yet, after he drags Louis out to the street and lifts him up to stand, you can actually see a bite mark already on Louis' neck. On his right side of his neck... then Lestat bites him AGAIN on his left side (Lestats right) and flies them up. So when they're in the room and Claudia can't see them, while Louis is talking to her trying to comfort her. I genuinely think Lestat had bitten him and was feeding on him. And I think he realized that Louis was still talking to Claudia even then and it further enraged him. Hence throwing Louis through the wall, then clearly out the window. I don't understand how some fans can excuse and defend Lestat, and blame and demonize Louis. Like how blind and heartless do you have to be to watch that. And after watching so much cruel brutality, look at the victim who's damn near dead, and look at the abuser who doesn't even have a scratch or bruise on him... and sit there and make the choice to blame the victim, while being like the abuser needs a hug. I don't understand it.

We've got to keep in mind the fight was from Claudia's prospective and she hates Lestat at this point in time. We've never had Lestat's pov and won't until next season most probably. Louis is still an unreliable narrator and has outright lied about Lestat before and been called out for it. Sam Reid said, "There will come a day, I think, when Lestat turns around, goes, actually, this is how it f**king happened." 😂 I think people are forgetting we're not getting a true picture of what actually went down. I do hate how they did Lestat in the show, book Lestat isn't physically abusive towards Louis or Claudia. Lestat is FAR from perfect but he is definitely not the worst when it comes to the vampires in the series, and I hope we get to see the worst of the worst lol. The SA was a step too far in opinion. I don't think it added anything to the story. The actors make this series though.

Even though Claudia hates Lestat, most of her journal accounts have seemed nonbias, even when she writes about herself. She doesnt sugarcoat her antics, she just lays out what happened. So I don't see how the events would vary much, I don't think Claudia would make this up when she doesn't expect anyone else to read her journals but her. The only thing Lestats POV would show is him explaining why he did it.
Год назад
@@shalayahomebodytv True. I don't trust her though. She's definitely made matters worse between Louis and Lestat through her own shenanigans. She's a lot more like Lestat than she'd like and that's why they can't stand each other. They're both devious and want Louis for themselves for different reasons. These are all morally grey characters, something people need to keep in mind when watching the show. Let's just say, Louis paints himself in a good light. If he had kept a diary, they'd be a lot of treacherous and erroneous comments made in anger about Lestat. In Tale of the Body Thief, Lestat calls Louis a "smug, cynical lying bastard" to his face. They both need to work on communication, and they do so, in the books, over many years. The fact Louis has made it clear, that he never felt abused by Lestat makes me question how the fight went down. That fight, even if it wasn't exactly as depicted, was outright abuse. There is no other way of looking at it. Why was there no other people around after them smashing the house up? They have neighbors after all. Nobody heard that! None of that makes sense to me, unless it was a somewhat of a fictionalized version of the event. Who knows. However, I do know you're my favourite reactor to this series!

I agree and I hope the writers will not just turn the perspective and give lame excuses, because in the way it is in the show it was abuse, simple as that. SO I need a well written redemption arc and I wonder how they will do it. The show Lestat as of now has no real layers, his actions are abusive and seem to be out of a need to be loved and an obsession for Louis. Core things in his character have been changed from the book and cannot be simply explained away as misunderstanding or not knowing all - it did work in the books because Lestat had layers, even in book 1 - shown in certain actions (not the shown abuse from ep1 on) - that show Lestat has not, despite the showrunners hinting at his backstory. So far it is not working for me as an explanation storywise - right now it falls flat and is one layer only - so I hope they will come up with something good for his character. The SA total crap - sexist trope uneccessary in the story (well like most shows ever) I hope therefore at least when it comes to the DV they chose to show - they will come up with a good redeption arc and put real effort into it - as I already said. A sad backstory will not do in this case. I agree the actors make the story! I want more of them!

@ 🙂 yes - fellow book reader. But book Louis was also quite a bit different then show Louis character wise. So it is interesting were they go storywise with that as well. I mean the display of eating for show to Daniel- book Louis hates anybody see him feed. And if a human so much as looks at him, he will turn on his heel and try find another victim. For you as fellow book reader - One of my favourite quotes from Lestat regarding Louis: "he had grieved for me, I will give him that much. But he is so good at grieving! he wears a woe as others wear velvet, sorrow flatters him like the light of candles, tears become him like jewels. - Well none of that thrash works with me" 🙂

Honey, do you know this is the foundation and mainstay of most, if not all, human DA and DV relationships? You know how much you'd have to be broken down inside to endure all that and still decide (for some strange reason) to stay. This is why DA VICTIMS must get help when they survive these things. Folks like Lestat will make you NOT RIGHT IN THE HEAD.

I have seen a lot of viewers offer excuses for Lestat's abuse. It's a little different because they're fictional characters, people might not give a real person as much latitude for such actions in real life- but I can't help but think that their real feelings about abusive behavior color how they relate to it on the screen, as how could it not? And I can't help but think that part of the reason that people are comfortable offering such excuses are partly because it's between two men.

Yeah, as someone who grew up in a household that was similar to this dynamics-wise, this episode was triggering 😬 but even more upsetting were people's reactions trying to defend Lestat. Some comments are so similar to how my abusive father would try and justify or excuse his actions bc my mom and siblings made mistakes or yelled at him, like any of that made it okay for him to lash out physically, esp when there's a huge power imbalance with him being not only physically bigger but also having financial control over our lives.

‘Just say it!’ ‘Fuck you! Screw you! Get out of my face Lestat!’ Yes! And there are still people trying to figure out why Louis didn’t answer Lestats question. Does that mean he still loooooves him? Like, maybe it means he’s been beaten so hard he’s almost in a coma and this disgusting creature just needs to get the fuck off of him… I really do have to side eye the creatives on this one, especially the longer it went on. You can tell from your reaction to just the beginning that a big chunk of that was unnecessary to make the point story wise. And in a behind the scenes video called ‘the Fight’ (which is just not the correct term for what they put to screen, Louis was a dishrag so if they wanted a fight they should have had him be able to participate) the actor said there were disagreements on set as to what was happening and being represented and they were trying to figure it out. I just find it curious with how intentional they made and speak about all the other changes to time period, race and ages and yet this one was causing confusion on set even while they were shooting.

I was wondering the same, when watching the behind the scenes. And tbh it does not make me trust the writers very much in this regard. They have shown some lack before certain things. Same goes for the SA - disgusting take by the show writers "Thoughen up" Claudia - are you f** serious?. I feel for Sam - he loves book Lestat! He sure struggled with this. And it shows in the behind the scenes. He seems a such a kind dude.
@Mashoulan

Yes, that remark exposed a tone deafness you really don’t want in a show runner. It didn’t even come across that way explicitly to me while watching- she had been away for 7 years of experience, certainly this was one but you don’t need to say SA makes you an adult… and then with this, a similar lack of awareness at play on a huge scale. Claudia’s pages were torn out but we get to watch Louis being dragged by the throat. Unlike the movie we don’t have dialogue with the human victims here- I thought to make Lestat more sympathetic. But that theory goes out the window when Louis becomes Lestats ‘extravagant’ torture porn victim- not just a random human, but a husband. He would have been enough of a villain already if the did half as much. And with no TW (but put on the next ep- ha) it just really comes off as them not realizing the optics of their story.

I understand why they did it, emotional abuse and trauma is difficult to show on camera and they wanted people to SEE Claudia and Louis be abused to they made it very physical... it's also important to remember all of this will be revisited in future season :)

loved the therapy session - I love your sass. I keep saying it - you are hilarious girl. The laughs are very needed for what turn the showrunners decided to take. And to answer your questions - its the writers doing. None of this sort is in the books. It is a very different dynamic to begin with. The are times where there is squabbeling in a physical way and people say it is the same sort of abuse - well it is not. (because first of all they do have verbal fights usually ) Lestat never overpowers him (he could but he doesnt) the squabbling is more like this: 1) Lestat gives Louis a slap in the face because he does not stop feeding on a human who is already dead - so it is a slap to snap him out of it and not to become sick. 2) Louis attacks Lestat to stop him killing a human - in a time where Louis is only feeding on animals and Lestat pushed him away - like do not interfer, nothing serious 3) Louis does not want Lestat to turn Claudia (big difference here story wise) and Louis does attack Lestat pysically and he fights back - but it is not described as a beating down at all, furnuture gets destroyed, a window... - and Lestat stops in the middle of the fight before it goes to far - and Louis riled up in the middle of the fight was wondering what made him stop all of a sudden, why hold back... Very different dynamic. There is one more fight but without giving spoilers I am sure it will come in the show - but again ... Lestat fights back after being attacked. It is so much different - so book lovers and Lestat lovers are schocked and people do go like he was always evil how can you defend him etc. Well I guess the Lestat lovers are the book lovers and it is difficult to accept the changes the writers made to his character. While in the book he is vain, bratty, very funny, very lonely, struggeling with the outer world (while Louis is struggeling with the inner world), wanting to be accepted etc. - it is not a pathetic - oh Louis love me only dynamic. Their relation is messy, toxic but it is all more about existential angst and them being polar opposites then abuse or DV. There is one quote (of another book) by Louis that discribes their book dynamic to the point: " ...Sometime you frighten me so badly I hurl sticks and stones at you. Its foolish. I am glad seeing you, though I dread admitting it. ...I cant bear the thought of existing now without you. You infuriate me. Why do you not laught at me, you have done it before.." (then something something regarding the story of the book.) Finally Lestats response: " I wont let him harm you Louis" (I turned and threw an evil glance at him) I would never ever have let anyone harm you."

@@shalayahomebodytv No they do not. It can be good to have different views on source material but it can be hard if a beloved character is changed drastically. this is why the fandom is divided. But have a go at the books. Book IWTV Lestat is depicted as the villain but there are many hints that there is more to him then Louis can or wants to see. The hints are kinda exciting because it keeps you wondering what he is hiding. Lestat is quite an ass tbh in Louis version, yet it is clear from the start there is a reason behind it (and Louis learns the hard way). They are polar opposites and Lestat goes about it all wrong, that much is clear as well and he keeps secrets. Hence they have a very toxic relation and Lestat does manipulate situations but it is also clear that he wants to teach Louis lessons he is reluctant to face. Usually Louis does not so much complain about the lesson as such but how Lestat goes about it the wrong way. He feels cheated for having such a poor teacher. He looks down on him pretty much all the time - his philosophical way of looking at the world is so much better than Lestat actually embracing the vampiric existence. It is were they clash. Louis believes he was chosen for his money only not because Lestat might have actually been interested in him (like being for 70 years with someone is nothing). As I said totally different dynamic - but very interesting to read. Add Claudia to the mix (she is the embodyment of Lestats mini-me, character and looks wise) and you have the perfect chaos. It is very tragic and Lestat loved his girl with all his dark heart and then has it broken. But he surely is not innocent at all. He sure is the anti-hero. Mistakes and counter-mistakes are the sum of it. And not to forget the book never was a romance novel. It is about loss, grief and struggle with existence - an existence that lasts forever. The world changes - they do not. I am curious how the show will dig itself out of this (later on - after season 1). Because as you said - this kind of abuse (any abuse really but especially DV) there is no excuse for it, no backstory can account for this. So I wonder how serious they will take the redemption arc and if they will adress that- there is no excuse and the writers have to be really sensitive and carefull when adressing it. But I hope they do. Only healing and serious relation work could help overcome but never to undo (L&Lshould go to you for councelling 🙂). I wonder how Louis shown in the now came to the point he is now. (and again different then books) Louis has very much of Lestat behaviour here - as you pointed out. The showrunners made a big character change here as well - so even if you read the books you have no idea were it goes story wise. So I am interested in were it goes - although as book lover - it hurts badly. Keep watching - I am interested in your thoughts! Greeting to you from across the pond!

The "mother" daughter relationship of the three is wild to me like lestat has the emotion thing of that kind of relationship. He gave life to her but sees her as a mistake and is jelous of her and the attention she gets theyre catty and butt heads like alot of mother daughters and louis is more physical. He requested that lestat guve life to her literally pleaded for her and is coddling a protector type. Housewife in Claudia's own words and an abused mother protecting his daughter, but can also be viewed as like the oldest sibling because of lestats position over them. Ong the thought that cane to me with this episode is lestats view on louis. Its been over and ovwr again. Fledgling sounding alot like slave. The punishment of protecting his own. The tradegedy he was out through for his "redemption", not to mention the whole lestat savior thing. Under a racialized lens louis and claudia are essentially his property. He owns them. Louis emotionally and somewhay physically and claudia by association with both his power and care for louis(if you're updated on later eps) cuz thats her mom, older brother, and father figure. But truly im a louis defender till i die. Hes a blame pusher and seems to be aware of his power in the relationship to some extent to know that everything he wants lestat would do for him so he is the main culprit of claudias whole thing. But lestat is a fuckin enabler. He brings up her trauma as a weapon constantly and to touch on the ownership doesnt respect her whatsoever becasue shes just a byproduct of louis will in his opinion. Louis trapped him with her because he wanted her to live but lestat trapped louis with her for his wellbeing and her safety. Shes a pawn in their relationship to lestat. But i could go on hella about that. Thats the most major part of louis toxicity is him blame pushin and not taking accountability. Somwone in a different video pointed this out but they put louis in an awful situation of choosing between them. He didnt say yes or no to wither of them and above all in that moment he never couldve becaise nonmatter how much he loves claudia i dont think hell ever stop loving lestat more. Thats why he stayed. He wanted both. His daughter and his love, his new family because thats whats really importsnt to him. Family and humanity. Ong im writing an essay sorry yall. Anyways he caouldnt say yes or no so lestat made the decision for him by essentially beating his ass and leaving him downed(not elaborating spoilers) Again louis defender but also claudia. Louis is depressed as all hell he said it himself in that state he cant just switch up and give all his attention to lestat in that moment its a mom having lost their daughter. Housewife duties unattended both for husband and home. But goddamn if you didnt eat with that "nobody can love the way you love lestat" cuz you hit that nail on the head. Hes notnin love hes fucking obsessed. Sure some of it may be but so much of it isnt. From day one man was obsessed and for so little as well. And if im being honest lestat wants so much that louis just doesnt have in him. He fell in love with louis humanity but cant handle when that humanity comes into play with vampirism. He wants louis love alone but cant handle not cheating on him with another or letting him be in an open relationship. He wants luois to love him in the way he loves louis but as a black, homosexual man in the jim crow homophobic ass america having repressed his desired for the entirety of his life and dealing with depression and greif theres no goddamned way he can just do that. He has him moments but lestat is dramatic with it in a way louis could never. They dont understand each other on the levels that they could. They love each other and cant let go. Louis is trapped in manipulation in the first relationship hes felt love in and free in never needing to hide yet his own partner takes so much of that for granted. I love lestat to death hes an amazing character but that french mf is on demon time. Imma stop before i pass ff length

By bringing SA as a sad sexist trope for toughing up the character (the commentary for the episode had me gag because this is the only reason it is in there) it shows a lack of awareness and bland disrespect. Same goes for the sexist trope while reading her diary and the "virgin forever" scene - stupid and mindblowingly wrong conception of female body and totally uneccessary - discribing a murder would have been better - but no we play a sexist trope for laughs. and I am afraid they put it in the show, so we will be softened up or on board for Claudias decision and cheer for her. As many already do. I do not really care for her unfortunatly, I do not empathize with her 14 yo drama, she could make it on her own, if she put her mind to it. She does not need L or L, she can pretend to be older, even find someone etc. Bruce was a prick but there could be others. So this storyline does not really work when it comes to impact in comparison of having a 5 or even 10 yo. (and I know why they had to do it) But now we need added drama so she can take the role of the protector because her own drama does simply not have the same impact nor could it serve as an excuse about what is to come. (however the show runners will tell the story) I get the changes in her aging her up but in the books Lestat was always her father - not uncle or brother - and therefore her actions were her responsibility and it always could have been either of her fathers - which even added to the drama. In the books I understood her but it was a messed up thing to do. I did not cheer for her but I was not mad either. It all was just too tragic. But is is her story and she owns it in a way - her curse to be grown up in a body of a 5 year old is reason enough to be angry at her fathers. No extra needed. And not to sugar coat anything - she was the one who did the DV in the book.

@@shalayahomebodytv did they though? Because in the vampire lestat it's pretty much acknowledged that Louie lied. He lied a lot about lestat. I can get on with tweaking the characters but this was wholesale character assassination. And it feels like they did it because lestat was white. The fact that Claudia is basically written in this remake to be a serial killer worse then Bundy then we are supposed to forget all that because she was SA'd kind of supports that narrative.

I'm with you on this. (And I hate how they added SA to Claudia's story.) This never happened in the books, but the characters are written very, very differently in many aspects.

Shayla I luv u girl and I felt the same way domestic violence is not the answer but don’t worry Louis does get his punches thrown back on lestat. If anything you should be mad at the writers cuz I know for a fact this fight did not happen between Louis and Lestat but between Armand and Lestat.

The tv show and writing team changed lestat character. Now he's a complete monster. How could the writing team not think this was going to get back lash. The queen is going to be far worse once they get around to her character you wait and see. The queen of vampire actually burned other vampires in book. She did not give a fuck on how many lives she destroyed and long the ones she kept alive served her.

You have to understand that Louis is an unreliable narrator. Lestat tells his story and... SPOILERS..... Lestat tells his side in The Vampire Lestat. Then in all the other books Louis...well... Let's just say... Louis is NOT a reliable narrator.

@@shalayahomebodytv Grounding, taking her stuff, kicking her out is an American thing. Anywhere else you'll get your ass beat. She was being completely disrespectful to Lestat. If he wanted to kill her Louis wouldn't be able to do anything about it.

@@petboy5839 I don't believe it's an American thing. I'm pretty sure in other countries, killing your kids for being disrespectful is also frowned upon. I can name several countries where you can't kill your kids for talking back. Trying to frame this as an "American thing" is ignorant and disrespectful, to other countries.
