Update 12/16/22: Well phooey. The story of Ash and Pikachu is finally coming to an end after all, huh? It's a weird feeling, man. I thought I'd be all emotionally devastated and shit, and I was for, like, three hours. But, now that I've had time to process the reality that my very first anime is moving on after 25 years, I'm oddly at peace with it. I guess this is kind of like seeing an old friend or your kid grow up and watching them leave the nest, eh? I just hope Team Rocket finally gets some closure or imma riot. Legit had to process this for a good 4 hours after I heard the news. I was kinda shocked and pretty sad at first but soon I thought that maybe after 25 years and becoming the best in the world, it is probably time to retire the character. Can't lie and say I'm not gonna miss him, he's one of my heroes but I feel like I have to use what I learned in Bye Bye Butterfree. Sometimes, you have to let go of something, even if it means a lot to you. Doesn't mean you don't still love it, you're just saying goodbye, no matter how hard it is. Also yes, if Team Rocket don't get the final hoorah they deserve, I'm grabbing my pitchforks.

The pokemon anime isn´t going anywhere XD. And they aren´t replacing Ash. His relationship with Pikachu is way too iconic for the franchise. Not to mention that they wouldn´t replace Ash without doing a huge marketing campaign for the new guy.

You gained a new sub man. I loved you ever since the 1st One Piece vid, but to find out you love Pokémon too is just the icing on top the cake. I was always on/off with the anime but the games have had my heart consistently for the last 18 years and have gotten me through some rough places so I feel you man. Great vid!

I initially got into the Pokemon anime midway through the Sinnoh region, I watched the entirety of Unova, a bit of Kalos before falling off. Then, I picked it up again for All (watched the whole thing) and then I started Journeys, but got busy with college and I had to drop it. Thanks for making this!
I binged everything that was out at that time like 15 years ago. Haven't watched an episode since. But there is a intro bassline that sticks with me still to this day! Don't remember which opening it was, maybe the 4th or 5th. I'll look it up right now and put in on repeat for an hour.
Can't believe the anime did not take the shot at making Go's first meeting with mew and the reason for the full Go background to be that he found a sleeping or hurt mew under THE truck while on his way to the camp, not knowing at all what it was... and THEN mew saved him afterwards...
The family's TV got toasted by a thunderstorm in 1998 and we couldn't afford to fix it until mid 1999. That kept me out of the Pokemon phenomenon and gave me a permanent cultural between me and pretty much everyone else in my generation and those that followed. But I still watched the whole video
Even though ash may be leaving the anime all of the memories we have of growing up with him and pikachu will never fade. He's an example that each one of us can become champions in our own right n in our own lives
I been watching since the 90's and in spite of all the series that wrapped up and ended over the decades Pokemon was still around, it always felt like a constant and there's comfort in that, it's a show that early on felt more than just a show but a friend too. But even with how formulaic it was it's also for that same reason I loved watching the series like it was the same friend I always knew
A lot of people told me I was an idiot for saying “Journeys sure does feel like a series finale”. Then the recent news happened. Gotta say I’m feeling pretty smug right now.
And... the story of Ash as a protagonist will be finally over, with the finale chapter runs from January to March 2023. Truly a c'est la vie. Anyway, Rico will come soon in April 2023 as the new protagonist.
Yeah, I stopped watching Pokémon midway through the first season of X&Y because all my friends stopped watching and I felt left out and had no one to talk to about. A decade later Pokémon Legends came out and I resumed watching Pokémon again starting from the Diamond and Pearl series. At first, it was slow pace then I stopped watching again after 10 episodes or something. Later that year I started going to the gym. Over time I got board of listening to music at the gym so I put up Pokémon and haven't stopped since then. And from that point, I kept watching Pokémon through my phone while I worked out, it really gave more meaning to why I should continue going to the gym, overtime I caught up to the last episode I was on a decade ago. (I don't really remember what episode I left off anyway) working out helped me power through weird filler episodes and Sun and Moon and Journeys in general when Pokémon wasn't the same anymore. Just last night I watched the latest Pokémon Horizon episode available right now, (32 episodes) and Pokémon Horizon has not disappointed me so far, in fact, I really enjoy the new Pokémon series. But now I am out of Pokémon to watch, I'll probably start watching from the very first episode and go until I hit season 10 where I started.
All the previous series had at least a skeleton structure of progression (gyms) including Sun and Moon (Trials) SM even had some of the most fun and creative filler episodes, where characters returned from previous ones. Journeys doesn’t even have that structure present to keep your interest. The filler is pretty bland because they don’t care to stay in a region longer than an episode.

Pokemon is one of the anime of all time. The characters are written. The story is there. The animation is on the screen. The voice acting is delivered. Truly an anime that exists. I give it a /10
Wonderfully said. It felt like I was almost next to you watching the show as you said your commentary. I must say, I was surprised to hear your thoughts on Pokémon Go. You always struck me as the type to be playing it and trying to catch Pokémon when out and about.
The anime lost in with Sun and Moon. I wasn't going to put up with that decrease in quality. Now with Ash they have to let him walk into the sunset and should have done so a long time ago. No journey can go forever or at least we the viewers cannot follow it forever. It must end at some point least it falls apart.
watched this after they announced ash & pikachu's retirement. I stopped keeping up with anime somewhere during sun & moon and still have not watched the master journey. And now I won't get to feel the wait & anticipation of next episode with ash & pikachu and talking with people as soon as new episode come out . Earlier I wanted to catch up before the final against leon. now I want to catch up before final episode. I probably won't be able to since I have a lot of things going on. It feels like going through every step of doing something you love and giving up just before you get to the best part. I loved that last part where you talked with the characters. Makes me want to talk to them for real. You got a new sub. I hope new series give watchers same experience if not better. I never got it into games much. This anime was Pokémon for me.
I think you heavily underestimate the dedication and love that Zoomers have for Pokémon. The first half of us were 19-14 when Pokémon Go came out; I promise you we have been watching Pokémon since diapers. Being born in the first week of 2001, I am very heavily a "OG Pokemon fan". Honestly though, I enjoyed Pokemon Journeys. Didn't like Goh as much, I found him to be unrelatable actually! The World Coronation tournament and the structure of it all defiantly changed the pace for me, and made it much more exciting.

The Japanese producers and writers don't want to continue with Ash getting together with all his friends to fight Team Rocket, they don't want to plan Ash and Giovanni's final battle, they just keep ignoring all the plans.
That opening cover at the end was something I didn't know I needed. This was a great send off to the series Now why didn't the goats Gary, Paul, Alain, and Gladion get proper goodbyes huh? XD
How I would've down Pokémon Journeys: Ash gets on his serious shit after becoming the Alola Champion and starts learning about IV Training, EV Training and Hyper Training. Focusing more on battles than ever now. Gohs still in the anime but instead of catching all of his team without trying, he does it the old-school Ash way, befriending them and having THEM choose to be his team, enforcing the themes of friendship and creating a bond with your Pokémon.
Honestly, I would be fine with anipoke ending or continuing after Journeys. Ending: Ash has become World Champ. He's the very best like no one ever was. Let his legacy rest in peace Continuing: Ash is still a kid. He wants to travel the world, make new friends, and catch more mons. Let his legacy live on Now that the Scarlet and Violet anime has been announced, I'm super hyped to see Ash interact with Nemona, Penny, Iono, Larry, and everyone else
i actually grew really angry at journeys because of how much of it focused on freaking sinnoh. I was genuinely so looking forward to a series about galar. I had so many things in my mind about what genre it could be. Xyz took a more shonen approach. sun and moon went slice of life. So I was expecting something similar, like sport anime or something... idk... I was just really sad by how little galar content we got.

I was a kid who cried watching ash leave Charizard behind so long ago.. I see now that was nothing in comparison to leaving ash behind as a character at some point, but I just wanna say don't worry, after 25+ years pokemon will always be there to be your Thursday slice of comfort food for as long as you want ❤️

That's dedication man The show didn't really fall off for me; I just kinda stopped watching somewhere in Jhoto as life got busier. I picked it back up with the Mega Evolutions Specials because edgy, overpowered Alain was everything teenage me could ask for. Oh yeah, and seeing Steven and Mega Metagross was also DOPE. I then started watching XYZ, watched some of SM, watched some of Journeys, and watched the Masters 8 religiously. What a wild ride it's been
I grew up watching the anime, so, I didn't have any struggle doing that. But for people who did not grow up with it.... I can imagine it's quite daunting
I'm a little conflicted, honestly. A small piece of me would like to continue watching the anime since Ash is confirmed to still be staying as the main focus, but the rest of me is pretty much done with anime since there's not much to do anymore. Goh wants to start his own journey now that he's practically fulfilled his goal of reaching Mew, by making second encounters and first-time physical contact with it. And as for Ash, like I said, I feel like dropping out after Journeys. He's already dethroned Leon and became the World's Strongest Champion, therefore basically the very best like no one ever was. So now what? What's the point of watching him continue his adventure even further and beyond? There're already several regions throughout the Pokemon world to fill up the entire planet, there doesn't need to be more. And besides, Ash's efforts of achieving his "Ash" goal of becoming a "Pokemon Master" is vague to practically impossible. Unless there're any Amourshipping moments before the whole series concludes, I am done with the anime, for good.
They'll probably open the paldea anime with him being instantly dethroned? Or maybe a new strongest trainer appears that he wants to challenge. Or maybe he wants one last journey before retirement? There are a few options, but none of them sound very satisfying tbh

Certainly not yearly cuz there is alot of time for trainers to gain enough experience to reach masters 8 level. Ash plot aside he has experience as a trainer to apparently bring out the best in the pokemon he uses for a region

It's sad to see Ash go in away, since we all grew up with at least one series (I was Late DP and BW) In a few years they'll probably bring Ash back, as a legacy character. Unless they reset the continuity entirely, although it would be cool if Ash still exists in the new series
Here some fruit for thought. If the mutl universe exist, then in theory, every single episode of pokemon could feature a different Ash and co, and every time you rewatch an episodes, it's a different Ash and co living through those events. Each Ash may also have a different future or past, and the only constants are the episodes that requires one. This means that if an Episodes does not have Ash's rival Paul seen or mention, then there is a possibility that they never met. You have dumb Rick and Morty Fans to thank for this comment by the way. For people who love a show about the infinite universe and their possibility, a surprising amount of people have an narrow view on these topics

Alala I cried at the end of your video im hyped for the last(?) next one, Im 20 years old and I was there since the 2nd crew, I completely relate with you, I'm so proud after all this time it's like a new era all over again but anew, I hope Goh and maybe also Koharu will stay if Satoshi is being kept for the next season, even if it was hard to drive like in the 7th gen i hope in the 9th one there will be more main characters (Nemona and maybe Penny ) also keep reading or watching One Piece and keep it up

Im a longtime fan and as heart broken as I am and will be while watching the show I’m still gonna watch and give these new kids a shot because that’s what Pokémon is about being open to new experiences Pokémon is such a one of a kind unique franchise and ash and pikachu have such an one of a kind unique journey There’s no characters like them in any anime or even within pokemon itself They are so special I’m gonna be showing the anime to my kids

I know many people won't do it but I think it is nice to be a little open mind and give the new protagonists a chance. New protagonists for a new generation of Pokémon fans. i‘m not joking i started in july and finished last week. it was the best 5 months of my life so heres my opinions: 1. kanto and orange islands: i vividly remember all of those episodes from when i was a kid so that nostalgia and that music just put me in trance. 10/10 2. johto: same as kanto. 10/10 3. hoenn: bro that was intense. but i missed the poke league BUT the battle pyramid was nice. 8/10 4. sinnoh: you already know. 10/10 5. unova: really sucked at first how ash was humiliated by iris but it was kinda true. seemed like he was new to this pokemon world and forgot all of his early pokemon journeys experience. but the music and story line were both great. those filler episodes i‘m not even recalling that was straight BS. 6/10 6. kalos: my boy looked clean. his first finals. some puberty problems of that last gym badge but he got straight up. i loved every episode of the kalos line. still 9/10 because i couldn‘t understand ash losing to that troll alan 7. alola: THE VIBES. i know, it was REALLY a kids show. but the vibes and atmosphere of alola were just perfect. and for everyone who says it wasn‘t a real league blah blah BRO ASH ASKED FOR IT AND HE GOT IT BRO STOP HATING. 10/10 8. s&s: you already know. i think its really the best one. maybe my emotions are talking but i think they represented ash‘s character and his past very well and very deserved. thats what i missed in kalos and in unova. 11/10 i will watch it again in some years. talk to me in the comments
Alola has some crazy good and emotional episodes don't know why is it so dunked upon. On top of that Ash Vs Kukui was by far the best 6v6 battle of all time (for me, until Ash Vs Leon came out).

Sun and moon was pretty good cause this series feels like Ash taking a break after all the traveling through gyms in the past regions which is a nice change of pace
Fantastic video! All of your criticisms of Pokemon Journey are absolutely spot on. I think a large reason why the show ended up being as mid as it was is that according to interviews with the producers, the series was meant to be more episodic rather than serialized like the previous series. And while that did make the series feel very directionless, I think another thing that really hurt the series was not having it take place in the Galar region. One of the best things about the Pokemon anime is getting to see Ash travel across the newest region yet in this series, he spends 80% of his time in the Kanto region! If the series would have actually taken place predominantly in the Galar region, I feel like that would have at least made the series a bit better.
@@adrianramirez9166 Barely anything of substance would happen between long stretches of episodes along with not expanding upon things as much as they should have. We needed to see more of Ash PWC battles, Project Mew should have been around from the start and Chloe should have been in WAY more episodes
I am in a similar boat. I have been watching the english dub from the very beginning. September of 1998 to the voice-over debacle of 2006. From 2006 onwards, I switched to watching the Japanese version. I missed a few episodes here and there, but I made sure to catch up with all the eposodes before a series ended. I began to fell off at the end of Diamond & Peal, we all knew Ash/Satoshi was not going to win the league, but I feel like they did him dirty. Though, I respect that they made Satoshi the only known trainer to defeat a darkrai and a latios. Not to mention that this is the first time he has made it to the quarter-finals! Also this is the last series to have Satoshi and Brock with their original designs. I feel like the Pokémon anime was done at this point. Before DP, the anime would always end with Ash going to a new region, but with DP, Ash was returning home. The Best Wishes series even "confirms" this. I skipped best wishes, only watching the league episodes. Biggest regret ever! smh! I decided to watch the X&Y series and thank god I did!! Afterwards, I mostly dropped the anime. only watching league episodes. I will say this much, despite the many years I have watched the Pokémon anime, I am glad I have stuck around in some capacity. I am sure everybody including myself lost their mind when Ash beat Cynthia. Fulfilling a legacy in which I bet the anime was NEVER going to do. 12 years later, I have been proven wrong. 😆 Nothing wrong with that , I am just glad it happened!
It's weird, for me journeys is what reignited my love for the anime, I love the new characters and I loved the premise of just traveling around the world doing research and catching mons. Felt so much easier to watch compared to X and Y where they would do fuck all for 10 episodes and the only conflict on the episodes was team rocket doing something. At least in journeys goh was always catching pokemon and the characters felt like they had way more agency on what happened so it always felt like at least something however small was being accomplished
