I watched Dreamworks *THE ROAD TO EL DORADO* For The FIRST Time.. Most Spicest Movie EVER

They knew exactly what they were doing when designing Chel, and I can't thank them enough.😂 This movie is so underrated, and it's honestly a shame it flopped. They had a whole tv show planned and everything.

An underrated classic. Same with Atlantis.

Blondie was always my favorite. He seems to have more heart than his partner. Not saying he didn't care. But he was in love with the girl and the gold. While we get. Glimpse of seeing Miguel spending time with the people and he shows that he had compassion for them and his love for adventure. I don't know but that's who my favorite character was in this show.

He should watch Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas. It’s one of- if not the most- underrated Dreamworks movies.

My favourite thing about this movie is that every detail of the prophecy does actually come true, if you rewatch it again. Miguel and Tulio did arrive on a four-legged creature, greeted by Chel with an offering, they do 'devour the wicked' (eg 27:58) by stopping Tzekel-Kan and the practice of sacrifices in El Dorado, and they also protect the city by blocking it from the invasion of Cortes' Spanish troops. Many more details too, but it's really fun to realise that Miguel and Tulio kind of... weren't lying.

From Chief being a god, to the armadillo being a god..I think there was Even one about Altivo. And, uh, PS; it wasn't about the power of his hips up there so much as the power of her 🫦

Some things for you ; El Dorado means "The Golden" so basically it means "The Road To The Golden" The women who plays chel is Rosie Perez who also played in White Men Can't Jump, It Could Happen To You, Do The Right Thing, Birds Of Prey : And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), Pineapple Express, Dance With The Devil, Untamted Heart, & more. The music was made by Elton Jon. The animation for the film combines 2D & 3D techniques. The animators traveled to Mexico for research and inspiration. The original title was gonna be "The Epic of El Dorado" The character Chel was initially planned to be a villain The scenic landscapes in the film were inspired by real-world locations There's a game for this movie. The movie was supposed to be a musical.

Billy is often fighting for his life in these videos but I think his reaction to Chell in this takes the cake 😂

Every time I watched this as a kid, I always wished Miguel had stayed with the people. He just seems much happier and truer to himself.

In regards to Miguel not feeling the blood rolling down his face. They had just finished playing a physically exhausting sport that would've lasted for hours, given how the timer was based on the movement of the sun. Meaning everybody involved would've likely been profusely sweating by the end of it. So even if he had felt the blood, it probably wouldn't have been distinguishable from a drop of sweat.

One of the most underrated films from DreamWorks Animation! Seriously, this film is so much better than how critics reacted to it at the time. Shame that the film flopped when it came out, but I'm glad that it's getting more love and attention that it deserves.

People are complicated. But, Chief Tani is 100% the best guy.

Flog is where someone is beaten with a whip or stick as punishment/ torture, i loved this movie when i was a kid & all the adult sexual innuendo jokes went over my head back then till i had gotten older is when i had gotten the jokes 😂 Chel is a baddie i love her personality plus she knew what she was doing with Miguel and Tulio 😂 i am willing to wait for Prince of Egypt reaction to come out but i will guarantee that you will love it it's a masterpiece in both art music & the characters personalities

One of my all time favorite animated movies. Kevin Kline and Kenneth Branagh have such amazing chemistry because they recorded their lines together, the songs from Sir Elton are bops, Altivo is the most charming horse ever, and Miguel flying through the air makes me cry every time.

Oooooh yes! El Dorado as a concept has a really interesting history because it was made up by conquistadors. Basically they saw a ritual done by native peoples that involved a new tribe head being adorned in gold and dunked into a lake, the gold getting washed off in the process. When conquistadores saw that instead of going “oh yeah, to a trade based economy, gold has little value as it’s a very soft metal so they’d use it in the arts instead” they went “oh these people must have so much gold that they’re just wasting it like this” and so the city of gold was born. Eventually the name was shortened to ‘El Dorado’ basically just meaning ‘the gold’. Also in terms of the “year of the jaguar” it’s a reference to the Aztec creation myth, jaguars appear a lot in mythology being synonymous with destruction and death. The first cycle of creation involved tezcatlipoca (god associated with jaguars and war) becoming the sun, creating giants then having a hissy fit (hah) and having the giants devoured by jaguars. Basically when you look at tezcalipoca through a modern lense he’s a bad-guy god.

I was about to say “ain’t no way he just disrespected Phil” but then he did indeed put respect on Phil Collins name. That rollercoaster of emotions in 4 seconds gave me whiplash 😂

This movie and emperor's new groove are my childhood. My best friend I quote these movies, bit especially this one all the time. She even gave me an eldorado themed camping trip when i graduated. She had a white minivan that we called altevo, she handmade a map with pitstops to our destination and quotes from the movie, she gave it to me in a box with dice ans somw other trinquets. She went all out. I still have all that stuff all these years later. And we still quote this movie for a ton of situations. For example when we don't want to do something we say "the stars, are not in position for this... stars. Can't do it. Not today." Were 32 and 33.

El dorado actually is a myth for Colombia so when I was little my parents always used to show it to me and it never gets old! I’m glad you watched it!

Elton John was to El Dorado as Phil Collins is to Tarzan, I just cant picture anyone else doing the soundtrack for this movie other than Elton. His voice is soo good for it. Also, fun fact, in the original script Tulio and Miguel are a couple and Chel then makes them a threesome but of course early 2000s we cant have that. But there are hints so fans do have their fun when it comes to artwork and fanfic. My favorite character is Miguel because of his love to explore, adventure. Him wanting to interact with the people won me over, also gold while pretty isn't as valuable as experiences imo. Crazy thing for me learning about him is he is voiced by Gilderoy Lockhart from HP and the Chamber of Secrets!!

PAINFUL AGONIZING FAILURE!” Also, is nobody gonna talk about the fact that when they first arrive in El Dorado yet feared of execution, Miguel says to Tulio, “I just want you to know… I’m very sorry about that girl in Barcelona.” Now that’s a story I would love to know about.

oh ABSOLUTELY THE WAY I CLICKED THIS SO FAST The Road to El Dorado and Atlantis: The Lost Empire are two of the most incredible animated films that simply had unfortunate timing in cinemas and continue to stand the test of time for being AMAZING.

I love movies that don't have a distinct hero-type. Everyone here is on this neat neutral ground: - There's one man searching for El Dorado from the get-go, Hernan Cortez. They accidentally stowed away on his ship. - There are the two main characters, Tulio and Miguel. Both the main characters just wanted money and always cheated to get it. - Tulio wanted the girl, the gold, and his friend. - Miguel saw that he could add a flavor of joy never before seen for these people and loved being the one who did it, so he'd gladly continue to fake being a god to be that person. Even so much as pushing that persona - which while he did good things, is still morally wrong. - Tzekel-Kan, the High Priest, assumed that the gods would be bloodthirsty, as their legends tell that they would be if they arrived on the year of the Jaguar. He was a man trying to live by his teachings/faith and fortify the gods the way he knew how. Which is why when Hernan Cortez showed up, Tzekel-kan was certain that THIS was the god he was searching for. - The two real good characters, in their own right, is the Chief, Tannabok, and his people. Tannabok was this loving man who just wanted best for his people and disagreed with the High Priest. He figured out that the two weren't actually gods right away, but Tannabok saw how well Miguel worked with his people, and figured that the people would do well with his rule. And the people, just as Billy said, knew nothing else. What I love is that the battles were oddly justified or nonexistent. With the High Priest, it was GOOD that he was thrown out from El Dorado. He was a man, proclaimed with substantial power and had his finger in everything the people did. He's the one who pushed sacrifice, offered no remorse when he did - even seemed to like it, and used the gods as an excuse to get his way. He would have continued his torture if he wasn't taken out, because no one dared stand against him. The High Priest was justified in trying to get rid of false-gods, but he had to go. The other battle that never came to fruition was against Hernan Cortez. It never happened and I think that is straight up amazing. There was a moment of clarity for Tulio where he realized that all these people were put at risk because two, cheating men waltzed into this secret city and continued their fraud. The least they could do is prevent anyone else from dying. No giant battle scene was needed, and I LOVE that. The entire movie they make us afraid of this Cortez character. They poke at us saying, "Oh, here's nearby. He's on the island. He's getting closer. He has a guide. He almost there," and then, whoop, he turns around. It is fabulous writing. The story legitimately is about moral conflict and that no one is right here, but no one is entirely wrong either.

No cause this movie was SO spicy?! And I see it even more now as an adult LMAO!!

One of my co-workers said "it's not even busy" then 5 minutes after he said that, 10 or 11 cars showed up in the drive thru and front counter all of a sudden had a line out the door.

1. I'm pre-GPS adult old, so I had to use maps to get anywhere, got really good at charting courses 2. Navigation in the army made sure I had to get good (or get lost in a desert with full gear) 😂 3. Unless you're naturally great with absolute direction, you need a compass to stay on track

My theory is that the armadillo was actually the/a god. When the volcano is going off and Miguel and Tulio are arguing, it cuts to the armadillo chasing a butterfly for some reason. When Tulio yells stop, the armadillo- and the volcanno- stop. It also feels like a random animal companion, one that the main characters don't even really acknowledge that much. It's just there. Plus we know that magic is real in this world, so. :]

I grew up watching this film and the soundtrack still slaps. Love your appreciation for it. :D

I want it noted that while Tulio was actively willing to sacrifice himself for the girl he loved, Miguel was willing to sacrifice himself as well. He didn't leave her behind, despite the fact that Tulio had betrayed him with her. She wasn't at fault and he put himself at risk to save her life as well.
