I was pretty good friends with his cousin (essentially little brother) when he was at Kentucky & getting drafted by Charolette. We were pretty young & used to make fun of him for getting drafted by the worst team in the history of the NBA😂 He swagged out our AAU team with Jordan gear though. I wish he could’ve figured a role out in the NBA, but a 7ish year career in the league is nothing to he ashamed of. And his jumper will always be iconic for better or for worse lol
It's crazy that he was drafted 10 years ago but it feels like a life time ago give how the game is played today. Looking at his shooting breakdowns on BB-Ref, it's impressive that he turned himself into a semi-decent jump shooter by 2018-19, his last season with over 300 FGAs. He was at least over .400 eFG with his jump shot that season, considering he was at .270 in his rookie year, that sort of progress is nothing short of miraculous.
It's...just game footage with an image spliced in here and there, wtf you talking about?? I'm not even trashing it, it works, just no clue wtf you're glazing him for here.
@@michaelhaydenbell I'm not saying the editing itself is amazing. It's more so the decision to use that kind of editing with this kind of content. In the manga/anime channel scene, a lot of videos are edited with this pacing and with these kinds of cuts. This is something I have not seen much of in basketball especially not being a short/tik tok. Just giving credit where it's due.
@@TrustTheBuzz its okay that guy just wanted to hate lol. Anyone reading your comment can infer what you mean. Obviously the technical literal editing production isn't world class lol
Aye Kenny, MKG apparently been busy since, I was listening to UK basketball commentary and he started some organization that raises money for speech therapy programs in Kentucky for those who experience a stutter since he did as a kid (I could be wrong but that’s what I remember)
True story, MKG was one of my favorite players as a 12yo (behind Nash, Millsap and Diaw) and you cant convince me he cant have a role right now on a team. I will always defend the man lmao
Bro 3:38 MKG perfected hittin back of the rim 3 pointers with the Carmelo Anthony “düünk-egh” sound for like 15 min of his life. Put him in the HOF rn.
i used to be a bobcats fan and watched mkg's full career he actually wasn't that bad on pull-up middies, he made significant improvements on his moving middy but yeah it was pretty sad.
Well, he was always bad at pull-up mid ranged shots though, the numbers are what they are. Outside of his at the rim numbers, anything more than 3 feet out he was atrocious the first 7+ years of his career...well, except for those 7 games he played in 2015/16.
@@andrewshandlewhy are you trying to argue like "wasn't that bad" and "always bad" are polar opposites. i watched every game, and i know the numbers trust me. as per synergy sports, in 2016-17 season, MKG made 70 out of 111 off-the-dribble jumpers, that's 38.7% which was clearly "wasn't that bad"
@@izeizeflo I’m saying that his “pull up middies” were flat out bad. Just a hint on how language works, when you say something “wasn’t that bad” you are literally saying it’s “not bad”. 38.7% is dreadful in a league where the average eFG that year was around 50%, and you are cherry picking like 20 made FGs from the 5th year in his career to make a point. It’s also amazing how the “I watched every game” guy is always wrong about the guys they watched.
@@andrewshandle Are you mad because I proved you wrong? It's jumpshots, bro. In 2016-17, the league average for shots within 16 feet to the 3P line is 40.2% (only 1.5 more than MKG's average) that is not definitely "dreadful". All your arguments are narrative-based and you haven't brought up a single tangible evidence yet. I have no time to debate anymore. You can have your moral victory and boost your fragile ego for the day, smart guy.
@@andrewshandleyou’re giving out a lesson on language while acting like it is devoid of nuance. Adults with a working brain knew what he meant. Lol.
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is a perfect example of why you don't draft guys who are "winners". Yes, they won... at the high school/college level, but who knows if they're gonna win at the pro level? All the hype in 2012 is how he had a winning/mamba mentality, oh please like that got MKG any accolades. For reference, Charlotte years before Kidd-Gilchrist also drafted Adam Morrison off of... you guessed it, winning mentality! THAT COMPETITIVE EDGE TO WIN 20 NBA GAMES IN A SEASON 😨🔥
I was shocked to see that no coach on the staff decided to work with him to change his form and improve his jump shot, then I remembered this is Charlotte Hornets, this was possibly the worst landing spot for him coaching wise.
He worked a lot with Mark Price. There maybe videos still up about it. Decent pro, not shooting, being q Decent athlete, more hustle than game for this era, caused him to be out the league quick. But Charlotte did give him a good extension. Congrats to him
I had a chance to meet him when he stopped by Morehouse. I was walking to class and I saw him! And I said “HEY you’re MGK” He smiled and said Hi my name is Michael, what’s your name? I told him my name and we dapped up. He’s so chill and laid back in real life and hella tall. I’m like 5’10 compared to him being 6’7.
