Alex's acting was actually really incredible. His portrayal of shock, trauma, guilt, and raw, broken grief; it was perfect.

I agree. His crying while sounding “funny” is true of a kid in his situation and someone really hasn’t “grown up” so to say. This movie really got to me, it’s so good
@SnailHatan

“Perfect” is a stretch. It was realistic more than most movies imo, but he barely portrays any grief except in the scene when he’s smoking with his dudes

I see so many people saying the son can't act because of his crying, but to me that shows a lack of knowledge more than anything. That type of crying is actually extremely accurate for people with trauma. So you laugh but its actually great acting, and definitely well researched. (Source: helped various people with trauma at a centre) EDIT: to add to that, I think people see his crying as unrealistic because we are conditioned to what I call "movie crying", which is a more theatrical type of emotion than a real one. His performance was much more authentic for a teenager IMO.

I went through a terrible loss and no joke that’s how I was crying. You’re right, people are absolutely conditioned to think that what the movies show you is how things actually go but in actuality that’s not the case. People cry differently and react to trauma or certain situations differently. And if anything that type of crying sounded like him reverting to almost a child-like state of vulnerability.

The grandmother was the leader of a cult that followed Paimon. They put him in Charlies body when she was little, most likely during the time she stayed with the grandmother, meaning Charlie is not Charlie anymore but Paimon but Paimon prefers a male body, making the son the final goal... The part where the mom reads the book on page 81 it pretty much spells out the basic story of the movie :)

Also the movie seems to suggest, if you dig deep enough, that Paimon never wanted to be summoned in the first place, hence the look of almost fear and disorientation in his eyes as he gets crowned by this cult of crazy humans. Also some suggest that the demonic and otherworldly aspects of the movie are actually metaphors, hallucinations of a family scarred by a long history of mental illnesses

I study acting and I am in acting school and let me tell you, the son’s acting was one of the best. It was realistic and just portrays so much realism. I like that this movie isn’t in your face about everything. It’s not holding your hand or treating you like a dumbass. There isn’t an obscene amount of exposition that blatantly explains what’s happening. It’s intended to have you give it a few watches and pick up on the details each time to make it make more sense and discuss it with other people. It’s the exact same thing with Midsomer. You’re meant to feel overwhelmed or uncomfortable and even confused the first time you watch it because you’re experiencing the emotions the main characters are experiencing.

I saw this movie in theaters, and I have to say that it is one of those movies that reminds you of why the move-going experience is so important. The theater was packed. The hype was high. The first few moments of the movie began, and you could already tell that the mood of the room had changed drastically. Absolutely nobody was prepared for that car scene. The tension in the room leading up to that scene was steadily building, but quickly transformed into extreme levels of anxiety, as we were all left staring at Alex Wolff's character's face for what felt like an eternity. The theater was so silent during that scene, that you could hear movie-goers in the lobby down the hall. From that scene onward, no one felt anything but anxiety, tension, and obscure horror for the rest of the film. 11/10 theater experience. It speaks volumes of just how amazing this movie is, and why it is, in my opinion, should be added to the "classics" of the horror genre.

Alex Wolff has always been an amazing actor. On the Naked Brothers Band he is clearly the character that has the most creative storyline because the show creators were his parents and knew how talented he was doing an extremely vast amount of emotions. His older brother Nat was always the emotional good guy who was into the same girl the whole time and his character arc mainly revolved around Rosalina. But Alex even though had a crush on the same girl the entire time too goes through a roller coaster of experiences, emotions, and growth. All while he was 7 or 8 years old. At a young age he could be sympathetic one episode and the villain pranking the rest of the guys the next episode. He could be the little baby of the group one episode and by far the coolest guy in the group the next. I was Alex's age when NBB came out and I always identified with his character and I was extremely impressed and satisfied to see him as an adult perform so well in a different style of film that is much more mature and impressive.

Question: y’all ever watch Patriot’s Day? It’s about the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing and Alex Wolff (Naked Brothers Band dude in this movie) played one of the suspects and he was very very good in that

Hereditary is a story about one plucky king of hell named Paimon and his quest to find an appropriate male body to possess. He faces many adversaries, but ultimately succeeds. I think the movie is trying to say something about gender, what with Charlie being a tomboy, but idk what. also you dont need to check ur buddy for cryin come on we're all adults here i cry at the movies all the time lol. i cried during spider-man

I haven’t had nightmares or like gotten really scared by anything since I was a kid but this movie…it had me sobbing at the beginning because I have a little brother and that night I woke up so scared because the mom was on my ceiling in a dream☠️☠️ haven’t been able to watch it a second time it fucked me up

Not a lot of reaction channels react to "Drag Me to Hell" or "The Cabin in the Woods" if you're looking for more horror ideas.
