The great thing about this game is that it's individual plot is one of the darkest of all the games. The villains are straight up lying and gaslighting the hell out of Sora and the best part is that Marluxia's plan actually worked almost perfectly. Sora was genuinely willing to let Naminé kill him just for her sake. To be willing to let Marluxia puppet him around as a weapon for Naminé's sake.
The hilarious step back from villain plan A: "Open the heart of all worlds to Darkness and destroy the universe" to plan B: "Gaslight the absolute shit out of this middle-schooler" Absolute best part of the game
I bet Ansem's real evil plan was to have all the players memorize his darkness speech after hearing it so many times in that huge cutscene that you couldn't skip.
That was an intense reaction to Larxene. xD Funny story, in the manga for Kingdom Hearts she can be seen reading a book written by the dude who invented sadism.
I just wanted to say: don’t listen to people that call the game bad. I thought I was too for the first hour but it gets so much better as long as you’re willing to learn the card system. I breezed through the whole game except for one boss fight near the end but even that just requires some switching around to account for their strategies
I... Can't agree with you there chief. I found the cards to be somewhat obnoxious and clunky, destroying the flow of the combat. Making it feel jittery and disjointed. I feel Riku's campaign was better, as the card system felt more complete, but Sora's campaign just felt frustrating and sluggish. I can accept that I was just bad at the game, but I still can't recommend it to anyone because of the frustrations I had playing it.
I've given Re:Chain of Memories like 4/5 tries and I just can't get into it. It does not work on a big TV, cause it wants you to constantly look in all the corners of the screen, as well as the middle. Recently picked up the collection on Steam for my Steam Deck, so maybe it works better on that
@@Zonefire15 that's what happens when you work with child actors throughout a series 😅 I think Haley Joel Osment was like 12 when he voiced Sora in the first game, then he was 15 I think when he did the 2nd one.
Yeah, imagine the time gap between 2002 to 2005, PS2 owners who played KH1, then goes straight up to KH2 and immedieately felt that they've missed a ton of things right at the beginning, things like: Who's that Roxas? Who's Naminé? Why and when did Sora and the crew got inside on those capsules? Why there only 8 members at the Organization XIII? And they found out that they have to buy the GameBoy Advance and play the, at the time, exclusive Chain of Memories to know exactly what really happened between KH1 and KH2. Like how anyone would ever know that at the time? And it baffles me that Square-Enix did the same thing with the Union X series.
Perfect timing! Sick as a dog right now and all I can do is limply lie in my couch watching stuff. Time to enjoy your rollercoaster of an experience going through CoM ☺
Ah, Chain of Memories. That game emotionally wrecked me way back when, and melted my brain, too. Watching it melt your brain and heart is adorable, Frankie. I enjoy watching you play the more mature games (Well, FF7 and FF7R, because of your game videos I've only played those lol) but watching you with KH is very sweet. In retrospect it's awesome that you called him Stinku before you knew he developed these smelling abilities. Maybe you can do that too, ha. Yes, Larxene is a witch. Namine is awesome. Kairi forever.
I'm guessing the reason Nomura is having Riku smell everything is because smell happens to be the number one trigger for memory, and Castle Oblivion is all about memory! Or maybe him saying repeatedly that he is able to "smell the darkness" means that when people use darkness to impersonate other people he can smell it? I dunno, it's always been a question of mine too...these were just something I thought once or twice over the years
i don't remember from where I got the information, but apparently the smell thing comes from a weird translation decision. apparently in the Japanese version what Riku says is something among the lines of "feel", like "You and Kairi feel the same", which is kinda complicated to translate and apparently makes more sense in Japanese, but deciding to translate it as smell is even more of a weird decision lmao. Could have avoided the weirdness if they just switched it for something like aura lmao
Yes! As one of your newest subscribers but longtime kingdom hearts fan I'm loving your emotional rollercoaster with the series so far! Good Luck you will need it🙏🏽 and may your heart be the guiding key!
when you think about what they were doing to sora and namine this game is by far the most messed up plot in the series lol larxene actually backhanded a little child across a room bro.
Okay. I only just started the video, so idk if it's brought up again....but are we just going to gloss over Frankie saying she took a voice acting class with Quinton Flynn? 😭
I kind of envy you. Experiencing this immediately after 1 will give you so much more information when you play 2, and the revelations you'll have, that some of us had to wait years to understand, is going to be an amazing journey as you walk through the next game. You say this one is dark... it's funny. I'd say you don't know the half of it, but you won't understand that reference. Not yet.
If you really wanna break your brain on this plot, its implied that the meteor shower memory was actually an event w/Sora and Riku, not Kairi. The only meteor shower we know Sora and Riku witniss is the one that brought Kairi to the islands. Kairi's good luck charm: she gave it to Sora during KH1, not during a meteor shower. So 2 big contradictions. Namine cannot create new memories, only remix the memories you already have. So the meteor shower is a shared memory betwen Sora and Riku that Kairi couldn't have been present for. If you look into the origin of Oblivion/Passing Memory, it represents Sora's memories of Riku, and the keychain is Sora's crown necklace. Originally, Riku was supposed to give Sora Oblivion's keychain in KH1, like how Kairi gives him Oathkeeper's keychain (her wayfinder charm). Altogether, the implication is that Riku swore an oath to protect Sora from a meteor shower and gsve him his crown necklace as part of that promise. When you play BBS, you'll know how far back Riku's devotion to protecting Sora goes
I think it's unfortunate that they remade CoM for playstation instead of just porting it over. The GBA version is significantly more palatable. The deckbuilding part was actually a fun change of pace (and also made the game SUPER easy if you know anything about deckbuilding). Also, the combat is far simpler when you don't have to worry about 3D environments or camera angles during combat. That inclusion completely ruined the gameplay in my opinion, so I can't blame people for skipping this version.
The remake was totally worth it for the new, final phase against Marluxia at the end of Sora's route, at least for me. So epic...and quite possibly foreshadowing content we had no idea was coming until the twilight of KHUx (no pun intended).
Hi lollia I love KINGDOM Hearts to and all the characters And yes I have played all of the games except KINGDOM Hearts 3 You did a great job with your reaction to KINGDOM Hearts Re Chain of memory
Its sad to see people avoiding to play Re:CoM, such a underrated game. Sure, the gameplay IS a bit weird at first, but when you give it a chance, you're in for a really fun (and stressful, ngl) experience.
This is the only Kingdom Hearts game where the the villains made me very annoyed and mad. Sora seemed to get hurt and punished in this game more so than the other games that feature him as the main character.
This is known as the darkest game in the saga, so I'm writing this in here: -There are two crossover fanfics between this saga and "OUAT" (I'm surprised there aren't like hundreds of them). Sora, Kairie and Riku's story was that Kairie was the princess of a kingdom in the Enchanted Forest that swore to protect the world of light, Sora was her Keyblade knight, and Riku was simply a knight. The Dark Curse separated the three of them and made Sora and Riku enemies, Kairie's fate kinda unknown. Why am I talking about this ? Ever since I read them and played "Nirvana Initiative", I have been thinking. What if the worlds'saga is meant to suffer a complete reset "Dark Curse" style ? For a new world to be born ? I guess, like Kirari and Yumeko from "Kagegurui", I want to see the universe come to its flashy end, to see its rebirth and what comes out of it. Actually...I don't think this is something recent. Ever since the first game, when Ansem talked about death, that I could only wonder how this universe's hidden side is ? What lies beyond lign and darkness ? What happens when the light separating them evaporates ? What is left ? Will the dead rise ? Will people be reborn ? The possibilities are endless. And all it takes is someone to perform the heart surgery without being manipulated by neither the power nor the characters.
No, he doesn't. Both times he "abandons" someone - he was against doing so and was asked by person in question to go without them and promise to do his DUTY (which arguably hurt him enough that by KH3 he was willing to not even try to recall his keyblade and be killed as a result - Survivor's Guilt was too much to bear) Seriously this was just a joke and then half of community gaslighted themselves into it.
Hi! I don't have a twitch account but I have been watching all of your Kingdom Hearts 2 videos on twitch. But video 7 doesn't work and I desperately need to relive KH2 holloween town, it just says network error. I've been really enjoying going through this games story again and seeing someone play for the first time really helps bring back those emotions when I first played. Pretty Please fix the day 7 video, i just want to inject that sweet sweet nostalgia narcotic and cry along with you.
Too bad you didn't play it. Marluxia's fight is just so good to do on this one, But glad you watched this before playing Kindgom Hearts 2 because the story starts to be more complicated from there. You should watch the videos from 358/2 episode too. I didn't when i start to play Kingdom Hearts 2 and I was ????? what's happening? who is this guy?? I was totally lost.
“Watched” lol I beat soras story went into rikus and could not be bothered to complete the same game the third time in a row so I watched the cutscenes
