NEED AN UPDATED: ABOUT RUSSELL? Welcome to "Travels with Russell"! After 22 incredible years working on cruise ships, I'm excited to take you along on my new journey-exploring the world on the road. I'll be sharing fun and engaging videos that cover a little bit of everything, from the quirkiest supermarkets and bustling shopping malls to fishing expos and even escalator reviews. Whether you're into travel, shopping, or just curious about the unexpected, there's something here for everyone. Thank you for joining me on this adventure. I hope you enjoy the videos and find them as interesting as I do!
Next you got to check out the Shiolkovsky mall. Next subway station! Sure, I do shop there, since it's close to my place. And there is other stuff there, like ATMs, banks, money exchange, etc.
A lot of the malls that were built for that sort of thing 20 years ago are dying out here in the US. It looks like those companies that are not supposed to do business in Russia just licensing their stuff to other companies who are not affected. There are a ton of ways to get around those things. As a US citizen I think the sanctions were mainly for show and other shady stuff. I also see a ton of construction going on in Russia. Is that in the recent years or has it been going on for awhile ?
@@tucoerquilenne6765 all sorts of construction started about 20 years ago. New subway stations, apartment complexes, malls. My info concerns Moscow mostly.
I work in a supermarket in America. If I lived in Russia, knew the language better and how money works, I would absolutely work in one of these. They're all the most beautiful stores I have ever seen.
Hello Russell, very nice shopping mall. Russia has great people and nice place to go. There you can see how the sanctions of the US and EU work.🤣🤣🤣🤣With the sanctions, the west has shot itself in the foot. Congrats to Russia
They worked on this for years before now, to safeguard things that might happen in the future. The main thing in a supermarket for instance is the sheer amount of locally made items.
Town centers in England are becoming like ghost towns, even the out off town shopping areas are finding it hard to survive. Cost of living crises ,when your going full on renewable energy at the cost of both jobs & economy just to say it's greener ,when it's not!. Yes like the idea of community areas where you can meet & shop. Trams are still a good system for mass public transport. I have been watching your videos for a while, started with costs of apartments .So far you have shown me a side of Russia which says ,why am I not living there . Even if you have to wait five years to own a certain type of firearm .
Awesome content as always, Russell! The horse sign represents 'no horseplay,' meaning no fooling around inside the gym. Hope this helps those who are confused!"
The construction of "Mesto Vstrechi" centers on the site of old Soviet cinemas is a common trend in Moscow. In my area in the West of Moscow, the finishing of such a center is also being completed.
@@TravellingwithRussell This is the Mesto Vstrechi Planeta center, a few minutes' walk from the Matveevskaya D4 station, next to the famous round house. But the finishing work there has not yet been completed. And it is much smaller in size than Pervomayskiy, which you visited.
silly jokes The hospital suggested I have keyhole surgery . But I insisted that myself and the surgeon must be in the same room I saw a dog covered in seaweed . It was a Kelpie I had a friend who owned a diving board company . His wife left him and he went off the deep end
Not sure if you have seen this video from earlier in the year. I did it together with a channel subscriber who loves trams as well. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Zs6Mnj3q6jc.html
@@StarLight_1550Have you been visiting before or for you it would be first time? it’s always interesting hm to hear from people first time visiting reactions
Surprising to see so many new places like Malls and Supermarket opening up. Definitely no amount of Sanctions or embargoes are affecting Russia. nice video ser (tramp fan)
13:06 A brief side note - OTIS has actually rebranded in Russia, they have changed their name to Meteor Lift. They (OTIS) still sell OTIS products to Russia, just under another name. The new OTIS elevators installed in Russia are branded as Meteor, but the OTIS logo is still visible on the top left corner of the display.
🇨🇦 Canada 🕊✍️ Greetings Russell! 🙂 💖 Love your personality in all your 📽 videos 🙂 ... It helps us feel at home in 🇷🇺 Russia as you so well describe all that you are showing us in a calm and joyful manner, 😑 thank you so much for that, always pleasant to listen to you! 🥇🤗
Nice video as always! I am curious about this Cinnabon cafe chain. It seems like an American chain? But they don't have any of their outlets in London. All US chains such as Starbuck have shops in London, but this Cinnabon is a mystery! 🙂
Here in America, COVID-19 wiped out about 1/3 of all retail stores in "strip malls" and eventually killed our large malls shortly afterward. They have not returned. Our small strip malls are now about half empty. The stores are out of business thanks to "Bidenomics," in which our government went to war, killing our own oil industry. That caused sky-high inflation, so people are not shopping there much anymore. Apparently, Russia took a different path - congrats on taking the right path.
I thought main reason for this in America is lack of safety and distance that shopping areas are from where people live so online shopping took over most of shopping, though I don’t know that for a fact that’s what I heard
@@Ratimir101 COVID-19 shut down retail shops in America for 1 to 2 years, depending on the State. The small "mom and pop" stores could not survive that long with no sales. and Amazon really took off - we do most of our non-food purchases by Amazon now.
@@noleftturnsThe cash flow went from small business to big business during lockdown. What a coincidence. The fact that it happened exactly like that is easy to confirm by checking the markets at the time .
Nice! 🙂 But, honestly, all new shopping malls in Russia and the rest of the world looks the same. I loved the shopping mall Galeria in St Petersburg, CUM and Central Children Department in Moscow: those shopping malls are distinctly beautiful. Perhaps the one from downtown Yekaterinburg and a few others. You should make a video about Central Children Department: it's the most beautiful shopping mall in the world. ❤
Oh, Russell, it's my native street. Thank you for this, it was very interesting.I'm living here. Welcome to Izmaylovo district. You visited Vernissage and our Kremlin this year. And now, you are here.😊 Here was a cinema Pervomayskii, with one of the biggest monitor (second after Pushkinskii) in Moscow. And now it's open without cinema.
very nice and very clean! all kids are at summer camps - parents are on vacations all over the russia - no wasting time in the city - and who wants to waste time in the city during summer time - no one!
Russell, that sign meant: NO smoking, NO alcohol, NO skates, & there IS video surveillance. It's great that you have stores in Russia w/in-house bakeries, beer taps, and they are all incredibly clean & employees aren't standing around..
@@TravellingwithRussell well, it was Khrushchev's buildings. 5 floors and no elevators. I believe there are still some buildings of this type in Moscow.
@@Botofermer2, I understand the urgent need for accommodation, esp. in a densely populated city like Moscow. However, some of those Khrushchevka’s are antiquated and totally out of place in such a modern city. They sometimes border on being eyesores.
0:46 it's called the "meeting point" (место встречи) because this brand new building replaced the old soviet cinema with the same name "pervomayskiy" and added a new shopping part to it. Exactly the same meeting points with similar architecture are built all over the city.
Good Evening Professor Russell, I’ve missed you! This street reminds me of Beijing, 1989! Professor… try to imagine… 6 lanes across… relatively quiet… think about standing anywhere 6 lanes across… if you were in NYC… 0400 AM? If you were in 16 th Arrodisment France… you’d be a flattened pancake!Professor Russell, I can’t even think about “Shopping” much too dangerous in and around Annapolis, MD… forget Baltimore, MD… I’m on a strict “Budget” no spending money… every cent to fix my home…and my little garden areas! I love the old Soviet Style apartments because I’m familiar with that style… I love this new architectural design of commercial space. The Tram Map is a fabulous Plus for showing the Can-Do of Russian know how! Thank You Professor! Stay safe
Yo! I love that centers, always going there to have some coffee and ride my bike in a park with my husband. That meeting centers are also named after the cinemas that were here in a past - Sofiya, Yantar', Orbita, etc. I love that the font of the most of that name signs is the same as it was in soviet time, so beautiful and various 👍
Perhaps the pet store also carries food for the horses that are not allowed into the fitness center. They can hang out and have a bite while waiting for their owners.
I believe that sign is more of a no alcohol allowed and not necessarily no wine glasses. And also I bet that sign is no pets in general and not just horses
If you'd do your due diligence, you'd know that Otis Worldwide sold its business to S8 capital in Russia. Otis Russia became Meteor, now fully Russian elevator company. I don't know why they are still using the Otis brand name, maybe the deal allows it, or they just use the brand name illegally which wouldn't be surprising.
There was a very big project in Russia, to rebuild many movie theaters into centers. Some of them retained movie theaters. Moscow’s government spends a lot of money on making life more comfortable. All these centers are very affordable.
Professor…we have a little place called “Sprout” and tiny “Meeting Place…safe and excellent fresh fruit drinks, coffee and tasty good little baked goods…some nicely high in protein…

It seems their are new shops and companies opening up in certain places in Russia. It's really a nice thing and hopefully the people living there can have opportunities to work their. We do have kaffe in at least one large store in my town and its free . You dont pay anything for it.
@@scotland638 the convenience is good, especially for the elderly, disabled, those with small children, or shift workers. It makes good sense to include shops, pharmacies, etc into big high-rise developments. The problem is that, like all good ideas, it could be turned into a tool for control-freaks who want to limit individual liberty. Russia is not showing signs of wanting to to do that, but with our governments, under which each new day seems to spawn yet another bad idea, it is hard not to become paranoid...
Correct. I was actually talking to one of the construction workers from the mall. He was so fascinating to listen to about the old building that was in this place.
Hi, Tram Fan here. Only thing I want to get out is in my country anyways, and seems like the same in Russia and probably all countries is the CELL/Mobile PHONE cover kiosks can take a HIKE and get lost. All over the malls in shops in the middle of the malls. JUST overbearing and too many. Its irritating to me lol
I have heard of his name before, i am not sure about his channel though, or if he is still posting or not. RU-vid isn't easy and some people just give up on it.
In all of Russell's excellent reviews of retail space, I was unable to find a value for typical sales, or in other words, how much Russians sell per square meter of retail space inside some calendar period.
13:07 10 seconds on Wikipedia and you would see they sold their Russian business to a Russian company. But hey I get it you want to fit in a lie like a good Russian.
