I know a lot of the fisherman that crab fish and salmon tender in Alaska are based in the Seattle area. Has always been like that historically. But I wonder if there's a benifit to it? As opposed to having your homeport based in Alaska, in which some boats are (Time Bandit for example). Seems kinda far-ish and just burn fuel on the transit alone.
A lot of the fishing fleets home port is Seattle so they have contracts and relationships with the local shipyards and other things regarding their boats. Also it is good to bring your boats into fresh water to kill all of the sea growth on the hulls of these vessels. Also some boats don't have built in refrigeration systems and they have to get them from Trident Seafoods in Tacoma for Salmon Tendering Season. That is one reason why the Wizard came back home to Seattle about 2 plus weeks ago.
