As a note, I typically get 3 coats out of 2 cans of clear. The most durable and best finish I got was on my Gary Fisher paragon where I did all the steps and did 6 coats of clear with regular wet sanding. It’s been a year since and the bike has taken a good beating and is still holding up really well. Also, the clear takes a good 2 weeks in dry Utah weather before it feels fully cured to me.

800 is way to coarse for this application.. start with 1200, 1500 and then jump straight to 2000 with very minimal pressure on all three grits and minimal passes (but spend the most time with the 2000) .. objective is to smooth the very top coat and that is it

Yeah I’ve always been disappointed at the lack of finishing most Spray.bike projects seem to have. Like they are REAALLY cool looking, but the flat, rough, powdery finish always puts me off. I had to know... is it just that no one cares to do the work/don’t know better or.. will it just not finish properly. It totally does though!
@EireGTi
@EireGTi 3 года назад
@@Spindatt Ya, I think there is certainly an argument for the general aesthetic that the matt finish has, Squid have it nailed but some of the projects do disappoint when they leave them looking unfinished or no better than a quick, cheap fix. I think this video has definitely changed my opinion of it in a big way! It looks better than a lot of the low to mid range production bikes..... Actually tempted to try it out now seeing the results

The frame had some small scratches, but nothing major.I did replace the seat though - the seat it came with was very uncomfortable. The tires need to be re-inflated every 4-5 days, but this appears to be quite common for the narrow 700x25 tires.Overall, in my opinion, this bike looks and rides like a much more expensive bike.
