One thing I haven't seen addressed about the OMAD way of doing things, is that from my experience doing OMAD for over a year, is that I think that giving my gut a break from permanently processing food from eating meals all day, SEEMS to make me feel way better and sharper during the day. I eat at dinner time every day, and that's my meal. When I do eat breakfast or lunch, I always feel so sluggish and way less sharp. I wonder if giving your gut a break, leads to positives that we don't know about yet?

I love the clarity and sharpness of mind of not eating all day. I use this as a tool for coaching, interviews, and other things that need my sharpness of thought. Probably the yield of ketones I'm getting injected into my brain.

I’ve done OMAD and IF for years. My body got used to it. I would also train hard 🏃‍♀. Started pushing the intermittent fasting up to 124 hour or 36 hour fast per week followed by daily intermittent fasting of 17 to 20 hours. I think it really messed my hormones up. I started getting irregular. And then my energy was really low. It was hard to get motivated to work out. I had very little strength. And I noticed that my metabolism pretty much just quit. it was like my body was in starvation mode so when I I. I’ve heard of other women talking about this. It took over a year to get their metabolism back after doing intermittent fasting for too long.

I have course corrected at 51 years old. OMAD was a tool I used on and off for 3 months to strip fat off that led to 4 pack abs to 6 pack ads, taking all that fat off the organs, which I started at 47 years old. Fasting was a huge part of my over system. Utilizing fasting for timely eating was a huge habit formation that consistantly kept body fat% below 14% year around. The main thing here is that OMAD was and is a tool, fasting is a tool for timely eating to help with disfuctional eating patterns that made me aware of the process needed to learn to get this dream outcome. Also keeping my protein at 1.25 grams per pound of body weight per day allowed lean muscle mass to retain and grow... Great science Thomas! This science has been applied to real life for my clients. I have used this for myself for the last 4+ years. REAL LIFE RESULTS with this knowledge!
@MrBottlecapBill
@MrBottlecapBill 3 месяца назад
My whole family naturally does this but you're correct. One meal a day can be done safely but I've always found it was hard to get all my protein and nutrients in with just one meal due to stomach shrinkage lol. I just can't eat that much. So I spread it out to one larger meal at dinner time and one decent snack about 8 hours away from the meal for normal day to day eating in a non weight loss situation. If I wanted to lose eight I'd skip the snack and watch the pounds drop like you said.
@lolawants2008
@lolawants2008 3 месяца назад
1.25g per POUND of weight?? I’d always heard 1.3-1.6g per KILOGRAM.. per pound means that a 150 person would be needing to eat nearly TWO HUNDRED GRAMS of protein daily… that’s beyond excessive.
@agelessgains
@agelessgains 3 месяца назад
@@lolawants2008 for my personal needs I take consume this amount of protein on lifting days... then I go back down to 1 gram per pound of body weight on non lifting days. As we get older our bodies use more protein for repair, recovery and immune system... I have seen long term clients including myself have better over muscle growth and recovery that leads to better performance with a lower amount of injury by increasing the overall quality protein intake on specific days.
@Mr.Tulitoes
@Mr.Tulitoes 2 месяца назад
@@lolawants2008it’s not excessive. The recommendations are minimum that we should strive for. Protein is the building block of the body. If you’re doing more physical activity or just overall moving a lot during the day, then you need far more protein. As we get older we need more protein as well. There’s no reason for us to limit protein it should be prioritized in every meal.
@bitrudder3792
@bitrudder3792 2 месяца назад
@@lolawants2008- there are coaches who help people that aren't doing great on carnivore, and tell them to scale back on their pro Tien and add up to 20 g of carbs/net carbs (your choice, apparently) of cruciferous veggies primarily. So there is a set of people who don't do well if They eat too much protein at one meal and/or avoid carbs. Hormone issues, and assorted other problems. On the other hand… Some people are absolutely thriving on much higher amounts of protein, and some find that they do better on certain kinds of proteins than on others. there are no hard and fast rules, and some people thrive more on eating the same meal over to over and others seem to need more variety. There are so many variables that we don't even know how to factor into this equation. I would just say that we need to keep learning and trying to figure out What the variables are and how those impact us when we eat in different ways… And not to expect when eating plan to be THE eating plan for the rest of our lives.

I have eaten very large protein-laden meals for years and have always known that my body utilizes it very well. I've always been told that I should only eat no more than 30g of protein per meal. Even nowadays, I backload my protein intake to my last meal of the day, +/- 100g per meal, and my body utilizes this while I sleep. I don't do OMAD, but my meals during the day are smaller so my metabolism isn't negatively affected.

Thomas: You are one of two people I watch every day! I have a comment about the timing and amount of protein you mentioned at around 6:25 in the video. If you get protein earlier, then yes - you will use it for synthesis. If you wait, however, you extend autophagy due to the demand for aminos and the lack of intake. So I try to do one meal a day and cram in a lot of meat and dense veggies during that meal. It's easy because as soon as I start eating it makes me hungry. I’ve been carnivore for the past 5+ years-best nutritional choice I’ve made in my entire life. Started doing OMAD in the evening around the 14th of February this year. I usually have a nice fatty steak, some cream cheese, and 6 eggs, or I’ll simply miss the cream cheese and make a fatty 6 egg omelette with a few spices seasoned in. OMAD is the second-best nutritional choice I’ve made in my entire life. I’ve dropped at least 9KG since then, dropped by 3.8 body-fat percentage & generally feel and look 100x better in the month and a half since I started.

Im Glad to hear about being able to have more grams of Protein in my diet. I have done a lot of OMAD and shot from 76KG down to 69KG, with some 3 day fasts as wel. I only have a little bit of fat on my stomach and am trying to loose the last bit. What I have been trying, is some good quality meal replacement shakes (with Good quantities of Protein) with the one meal a day. I have started doing the gym, so don't want to loose muscle Mass, which was happening when doing OMAD and Cardio only (Cycling).

I always thought we could absorb however much protein our body needed to. I do OMAD and I don't really see a problem with it, with either protein or micronutrients. I really just don't worry about it.

It was known sinse the Roman Empire. It was known in Middle Ages' England too, where commoners had to fast 3 days a week with not eating till 3PM and even later, with OMAD, during the Lents.

Yup, I was just eating my one meal of the day while watching, 1 pound of ground pork, 4 eggs, 1 cup of raw cheese and some crumbled pork rinds, just because I like the crunch and salt in the mix, how much protein in that? I don't know, but it will sustains me for another 23 hours easily.

How are you defining enough time? Time before what, you eat again? Exercise or sleep? Unless you throw it up, won't you digest and absorb it regardless?

after 5 weeks of being on OMAD (low carb more protein more veges, whole nutrient dense foods) and it literally got rid of my dreadful brain fog i had for almost a year. i no longer wake up feeling like a zombie! i was so concern to fix it and IF fixed it. i no longer feel constantly sleepy throughout the day! i lost 8lbs, my acne cleared, constipation and bloating gone. binge eating solved. i won't return to eating 3-5x a day and that made me feel sick and sluggish. While doing IF, i still can workout and don't have an issue with it. i still indulge to carbs or a sugary treat once a week only after eating my protein meal. don't eat carbs/sugar alone it increases your glucose spike. You will be amaze how less often ur body "needs" to have food.

I never questioned getting enough protein when on OMAD. If you are deficient in maximum protein intake I did not think it was such a terrible issue. My concern is with the micronutrient deficiency. There's just not enough space in my stomach to be able to eat a wide enough variety of foods to guarantee all micronutrients. Thanks for the study review.

The biggest issue with omad for me, is simply consuming enough calories to satisfy my BMR. I can't do it, so I have my main meal at lunch, and then a second "top up" around 4pm. So it is sort of an extended omad. That way I can get my nominal 2200 kcal/day. With strict omad I just can't stuff enough food down my gullet in one sitting. I have been doing this for 10 months and loving the results. For reference I am an ovo vegetarian.

Good content and information again. But despite You touched a little bit this, the question still remains about protein use as a muscle building material. When eating a lot of protein in small time window, then it gets digested slower than a smaller amount. But more of it is awailable at the same time compared to the situation when consumed smaller amount at a time. So, is it possible that this huge amount will not be used as muscle building materjal, because there are limits to the amount that is used accordingly. It means, that this amount that exceeds this usable amount as muscle builder is used for energy storage as glycogen and or fat. And it’s bretty obvious that there are differences what kind of protein is used. For example, steak is digested slower than eggwhites. And despite that at some point there are alot of digested stake at certain time, the steak still gets digested during longer period of time compared to eggwhites, for example. So, it seems that how much protein is reasonable to be consumed depends alot of what kind of protein source is eaten. It looks like the best way is to devide the daily amount more than just eating one meal a day. Or at least consuming different types of protein sources on one sitting. Of course there are many more aspects to it, what and when and how much to eat and drink, but this little issue with OMAD that I described above needs to get clarified a little bit deaper. So, Thomas or team, if You accidentally read this, it would be beneficial You to cover this topic with some more nuanses.

I do OMAD out of self-defense essentially.....if I eat during the day, I can end up in a coma on the couch, depending on what I ate.....eggs are the least problematic, but most anything else puts me somewhere between a lazy brain fog, and as I say - a deep nap when I dont otherwise want or need one, as I sleep very well at night. Also, not eating during the day keeps me razor sharp mentally. I would love to figure out why I have this reaction to food, as it would make my life a lot easier. As such, this video is reassuring in that I can at least get enough protein on OMAD, or at least close to it, if not the micronutrients. I depend on shroom powder, greens powder and a good ol' multi for that I guess. YOU DA MAN!

That’s exactly how I feel too. Yes anything but scrambled eggs and I feel like the lion looks after a big meal on the savannah. It’s like ‘nothing else matters whilst I’m digesting’ it’s like I need 2-3 hours before my brain starts working again.

I already knew this way before these studies since I have been doing IF for 18 years, gaining muscle just like eating 6 meals per day, the only thing that matters is eating enough protein, calories, nutrients and that's it, the effect will be similar to any other type of eating.

How would eating more protein in OMAD work for Type 2 Diabetics? I’m aware that Type 2 Diabetics do not absorb nutrients very well which is why we are always hungry. Perhaps we can train our bodies to uptake more protein

Some things you might want to know are the importance of staying hydrated, listening to your body's hunger cues, and making sure to get all the necessary nutrients in that one meal. Drinking water or other non-caloric beverages can help with that. Secondly, if you're feeling hungry before your mealtime, it's okay to have a small snack or adjust your eating schedule. Make sure that your one meal is balanced and provides all the necessary nutrients your body needs. Including a variety of foods like proteins, healthy fats, and carbohydrates.

I've been doing OMAD for years, with small cycles of regular 16/8 and cycles with no fasting. I personally like OMAD as it's the easiest on to keep on track. It was the easiest way I ever lost 30kgs.. repeatedly. So there have been relapses, but when i'm on it, i'm fit and lean, can do 2 workouts a day, feel no cravings with total peace of mind and I don't require more than 6 hours of sleep. These are my personal views and observations of my own experiments. I do not suggest that you dive into this head first. I started with following this channel in 2018. Thanks Thomas!

I´ve been on keto over a year now. I never plan my eating or fasting. I eat when ever i am hungry and fast the rest of the time. I might go 3-5 days with OMAD and 1-2 days 2MAD. I let the body make the desitions and i live how it says. So my fasting periods has huge slide from 10 to 27 hours. When i eat, i eat so much that i am satisfyed but not too bloaded. And on of the thing that impacts on that fasting period is what am i doing. If i consume lots of energy i will get hungry faster. If i don´t do anything physical i sure don´t need much of energy and the fasting period is konger.

Now we need to know whether we absorb lean protein better than protein with fat and/or fiber and/or sugars. If I recall correctly, sugars don't actually enhance absorption, while fat and fiber likely merely slow absorption. Perhaps slowing absorption improves total absorption? I currently go out of my way to eat lean protein immediately after a workout, then eat moderate fat the rest of the time. As for intermittent fasting, I like to fast until my resistance training, and fast a day or two on weekends, but follow a "normal" schedule the rest of the time. One problem with estimating lean mass is that hydration throws the numbers off, so I don't believe I really know what my lean body mass actually is. The best I can do is weigh in the morning, and see the trend of change in the estimated lean body mass (impedance scale.) I believe lean mass is underestimated for keto and fasting because the muscles are less hydrated than usual, and I think muscle is where most of the water goes / comes from. Perhaps the liver, too, but it's not nearly so large as total muscle. I'm sure this has all been studied. I don't think there's a good way to maintain consistent hydration, even if you don't fast or eat keto.

OMAD is great for discipline and hoping off a cycle of craving. However, I found longer IFs each week (36-72 hrs) focuses the mind and connect with the body in a more natural way. So, OMAD to correct oneself and then longer IF each week when feeling great 😅
