The little boy fishing singing the jingle is priceless.

I owned a towing business on the Gulf Coast of Alabama from 1981 into the 1990's. One of my regular accounts was an AAMCO transmission shop. One day Lou, the owner, called and said he had a vehicle for me to pick up and bring to his shop. When I arrived, it turned out to be a Oscar Meyer wienie mobile. If I recall correctly, it was built on a 3/4 ton Chevy chassis. I've forgotten some of the details, but it was successfully delivered.

That " Wiener Mobile" is absolutely out this world. It's definitely a gem of mass market advertising.

The jingle that I still sing today 😂... at 57 years old has always brought a smile to my face ❤️❤️❤️😊😊😊😊😊

I remember those whistles ! Here's a story: when my mom was young and still living at home, her date actually drove up to the house in that Wiener Mobile !

"Acquired by...merge, merge, merge". It's the same story with every family-owned business that does well. They are all temporary. The name on the packaging doesn't mean anything these days.

I managed to catch up to one of the Wiener Mobiles here in town about six years ago in front of a Safeway! I got one of the "I saw it" stickers and a whistle! That was only the second mascot vehicle I've encountered here in town since a Hershey's "Kiss Mobile" showed up to another Safeway many years ago!

My Bologna has a first name it's Oscar, My Bologna has a second name it's Mayer, Oh I love to eat it everyday and if you ask me why I'll say, that Oscar Mayer has a way with bologna, How's That? Ate too much of that too.

Remember the Weinermobile, remember the jingle. Anyone remember the whistle? My Grandparents would have no other Weiner in the house. Very fond memories.

Oscar Mayer was a staple of my childhood. I think the first three words I learned to spell were Oscar, Mayer and bologna because of that jingle. Of course I had to sing the jingle to remember how!

Every kid should have at least seen a Wienermobile once in their lifetimes. I certainly did. 🌭

I have driven by the Madison, WI Oscar Meyer plant a few times. Quite a big place.

As a kid in the early 60's I remember the Weiner Mobile coming by and passing out the Weiner whistles. Wish I still had them.

When I was in grade school it was a popular stunt to sing the jingle on the playground without getting caught. "Weiner" was considered a swear word in the area, so there was an element of risk to this stunt.

I remember as a Young boy living across the street from Safeway in Redondo Beach the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile would come by with little Oscar and give out little whistles

The Wiener Mobile made it to Saint Joseph, Mo. when I was a boy. It was at the local Safeways, which Recollection Road has also talked about. It was cool. or was we still saying, neat back then? LOL!

Oh, that jingle, "I'd love to be an Oscar Mayer Weiner... then everybody would be in love with me." I knew that there really was an Oscar Mayer, but didn't know too much about the history of the company. Thank you for this presentation.

Saw the Wienermobile up close and personal once. My parents and I were in Florida on vacation, and we pulled into the hotel parking lot, and there it was. Me, being maybe ten, was quite impressed by it. The driver just happened to see us checking it out, and came by to give us a look inside, and even gave me a Wienermobile Matchbox car. Still have it somewhere.

The story about the bologna jingle explains why at the end of the jingle the little boy asked, "How's that?"

Enjoying this channel. I remember the Weinermobile pulling up to my local supermarket. Little Oscar jumped out. I believe it was George Molchan. Then me and my friend showed him around the store. He was cool and gave us each about ten Weiner Whistles.

Back in the day's of last part of the 1940's my mother used to make a recipe dish for supper that she called "Bologna Bowls." I still make it to this day. I fed my own kids on it in the 50's and 60's, and now the grand kids. Here's the recipe: Make a pot of mashed fresh potatoes, and season to your liking, or use instant potatoes. At the deli counter have them slice as much Bologna as you need for each person a half inch thick or three quarters inch thick, or buy at least a 3lb. hunk of Bologna and slice it yourself. (what's left over use for Bologna Sandwich Spread.) Next step, fry up all Bologna on both sides, and the edges will curl up, to form the bowl; next, pile mashed potatoes in the "bowl" and heap on some shredded sharp cheddar cheese. Put under the broiler until cheese is all melty, gooey, and turning a nice brown color. I will suggest that if you need to make a lot of them then use a larger metal pan, greased or sprayed for broiler usage. That's about it except for a bottle of ketchup. My mother nearly always served canned Del Monte Peas in the days before we had frozen vegetables. And, somes she would mix them in with the potatoes because they were easier to eat, and they didn't need to be chased around the plate. If you decide to use canned peas to mix in with the potatoes, "!!!Drain them first!!!" Don't use the Pea water!!! I know this looks like a lot of work, but it really isn't. I just wanted to make sure I had all the proper steps down so you'd know how to make this cheap fancy meal. Serve goblets of champagne for adults (LOL,) and, chocolate milk with straws for kids. We grew up right outside Chicago Markham Illinois so we used to play with them like they were little cars they were pretty cool thanks for the memories.

I remember when, I worked at Meijer in Chesterfield, Michigan. I had seen the Oscar Mayer Weiner Mobile in the parking lot at the Meijer store I worked at.

I can still sing that song and to me it's iconic Americana at its best. How many of my fellow Americans can still sing it I can.

I remember the commercial with the car! They would also have the car show up at fairs when I was younger. Still remember the Oscar Meyer jingle to this day! Lol!

When we passed a Wienermobile in Wichita, I just had to get a picture... yup, it's still on my phone!

Saw the Weinermobile twice in like 1989 and 1993. I wish I could recapture that kind of absolute joy again.

Funny to think there was a time when Oscar Meyer was a high quality brand. By my childhood they were considered pretty generic and bland, though a cut above the discount brands.

The Wiener Mobile came to our school when I was in second grade in Glendora, California (about a hundred years ago). We kids were allowed to look around inside, but I don't remember much about it.

The jingle I remember the most was the combining of the Perry Como classic "Hot Diggity Dog" with "I Wish I were an Oscar Meyer Weiner."

I loved watching the little boy singing the song on the pier. He was so adorable. The ad did its job as I remember eating quite a few OM wieners and bologna sandwiches that year. Another fun fact about the Wienermobile was funny columnist Dave Barry played a joke on his teen son and showed up to pick him up from school. His son, at that time, didn't like his peers seeing his Dad taking and picking him up from school. So, Dave rented the Wienermobile to make it very obvious he was picking up his son. It made for a very funny column piece, especially for those of us who had teens in the 90s and could totally relate. ❤

You hit the nail on the head this time. Something as simple as the Wienermobile and a free whistle is something I fondly remember from the late 1960s. The Wienermobile visited Ralphs supermarket in Gardena, California (Van Ness and Rosecrans) when I was a kid, and I remember it was very exciting!

My memories of oscar mayer commercials are the weener jingles and bologna song too.

I was about 7 years old in the early 1960's. My Dad had just remarried. We had just moved into a tract home in Anaheim CA. That's when I rode my bike to the little mall near our house. And there it was! The Wienermobile!! I was pretty excited - but I'm not really sure why. I didn't know at the time, but these Wienermobiles were everywhere.

I was driving my tractor trailer out of a toll booth in Buffalo, NY and saw the Wienermobile broken down in the other lane. The driver’s side gull wing door was open and steam was coming out. “Gosh,” I thought , “it must be done!” Sorry ….. great stories- keep up the good work!

Great Memories from The 60’s as A Kid

I remember back in the late 70's in Philadelphia a Wienermobile crashed just off a stretch of "old" I-95. They towed it to a junkyard just across the Delaware river in Maple Shade New Jersey on Route 73. It sat there for many years along with some other "famous" vehicles, including one of the old WFIL radio double-decker buses. When the junkyard closed around the year 2000 there were some nice finds there that made it into the local newspapers. And (singing) "Hot Dogs, Armour Hot Dogs....what kind of kids eat Armour Hot Dogs?"....

I eat a hot dog once every blue moon. I've seen the Weiner Mobile on the road 2 or 3 times throughout my life since the 70s, it's a rare occurrence to see one. 🌭

Our family had this tradition in the 1960s and '70s, if the weather looked really bad or a storm knocked our electric out, my mom would slice down the middle of these hot dogs, stuff them with American cheese, and wrap them in bacon. She would bake them in our gas stove and we would eat them by candlelight. I probably haven't had one of those since 1979! 🙂💕🌭

One thing we so miss these days...Jingles! I remember after I watched the commercial of the boy singing, I was in 1st grade and told my teacher "I can spell bologna". She said "No...show me" I then mumbled the first part "Oscar Mayer has a way..." then increased my voice "with B...O...L...O...G...N...A". My teacher sighed then laughed.🤣🤣

Some years ago a friend of mine and I spotted a Wienermobile on Rt. 322 near Hershey PA. So of course we followed it as it left 322 and wound its way along a country road for awhile, then pulled into a driveway. Turns out the guy driving it worked for Hershey Foods and had borrowed it....for some reason I don't remember. In any case the driver's compartment was Cadillac quality with plush seats, thick carpeting and a great sound system. I don't know how many people have actually followed a Wienermobile, but it's worth the drive.

Thanks for another great one! I love your videos. My great great grandfather's family immigrated from Germany in 1882 and ended up settling in Chicago. Watching this, I couldn't help but wonder if they might've been early Oscar Mayer customers.

I remember in the 1960's when the Winer mobile went to Puerto Rico. It was a big event covered by the news and thousands of children showed up!

On the way to Little Rock,Arkansas from Hot Springs we fell in behind the Weinermoble. Followed it for a long time.

My brother-in-law worked for Kraft foods. He has gifted me several Wienermobile collectibles over the years from the small whistle, to the Hot Wheels model, to a very very oversized pillow version lol. Kids don’t know it today - they should bring it back in Electric form! 🌭⚡️

I think the irony of the weiner song was unavoidable for our childhoods in the 1970s. Amazing the song lasted as a publicity (retired) until 2010.

Wiener is named after Vienna (Wien). That’s why it’s ie, not ei. Weiner would be pronounced wine-er.

Summer picnics, swimming in Lake Superior, and grilling Oscar Mayer hot dogs. Attending an Iron Rangers hockey game and eating an Oscar Mayer hot dog. These are things I remember.

While on a trip back home for a family reunion, we passed both a Mr Peanut and an Oscar Mayer Wiener mobile on the interstate! I had never seen either of them in person. It was super cool! I love that commercial with Andy Lambros singing the bologna jingle. It actually brought nostalgic happy tears to my eyes! Thanks for your great videos. Keep them coming!

When I was a grade school kid 9,000 years (uh, about 60 years ago) there was a joke about Oscar Mayer. I wonder if anyone of you ever heard it. A man finds a magical lamp. The genie of the lamp appears and after effusively thanking him for release, offers to grant him three wishes. The man wishes for $1,000,000 dollars, then he wishes for a sporty convertible which appears before his eyes immediately. Perhaps with bulging pockets full of $100 bills, he hops into his car and speeds off. He turns on the car radio, and as an advert plays he sings along. "Oh I wish I was..."

I just saw one of these driving on the freeway in Chicago last month.

In the mid-1960s my dad was taking my brother and me from my grandmother's house in Burbank California to our house in Glendale. We have to travel through a small town called Atwater Village and parked at the grocery store we shopped at was the Wienermobile. My dad turned around parked in the parking lot. We got out walked over and saw he was giving out Wienie whistles. We asked for one and we each got one. What a great memory. Over time we lost them and wished I still had them.

Oscar Myer was never really prolific here in Canada. Too bad. I have had the honor of tasting it rarely and it's always high quality in my opinion.

In the 1980's I was working for a Chevrolet dealership in Houston Texas. A wiener mobile came in for a overheating problem. After it was repaired I drove it around to make sure the problem was fixed. I sure got a lot of looks.

I believe there is a video on you tube of the restoration of Oscar Mayer's mansion. It was an amazing home. Nice story. Hard work, family and dedication to a craft. Still works today.

Don't think I've eaten an Oscar Mayer product since the 70s, but did just sit here remembering the jingle from when I was a kid.

Thank you, that was a great history lesson. I have several versions of the small Hot Wheels Weinermobile die-cast, and the more recent Monster Truck version. It would be great to see a real Weinermobile one day. Little Oscar did not drive the Weinermobile, he sat up in the tail of the hot dog, with the driver in the centre.

Kraft and Heinz - the death knell of any quality, right there. Oscar Mayer was wonderful stuff all through my childhood in the 60s, but the corporate sellout began their decline and it's just sad to see.

My dad told me that the Wienermobile came to his hometown in Ocean County, NJ when he was a kid. It could have been in the late 40s or early 50s. Too bad he never got a picture of it. The Oscar Meyer Weiner whistle, I had one and learned to play the Oscar Meyer hot dog jingle. I don't recall where I got it and now wonder if I still have the things in a box somewhere. That whistle had to be from the '60s and was made of plastic of some sort.

Oscar Meyer used to offer internships to college seniors wanting to work in public relations/marketing with the Weiner Mobile. It was tempting but my friends would have been relentless with the wiener jokes. I went to the beach instead.

I remember when I was young boy had those hot dogs all the time. Still do thanks for the memories sir. Outstanding video.
