@@sharvisharvz_pyrotechnics5559 For me it's software, bar none so far. I have FSD on my model 3 and this latest update is pretty wild in terms of the jump in autonomy. Afraid I would lose out on that for all the other stuff Kia offers.
But Chris, like you mentioned you don't need the falcon wing on the EV9. You can pull and reverse the car out of the parking space via the key fob. You don't even have to get near the car next to you.
@@thehardyinvestor Yeah until you actually use them. I hate them. They do hit things still, i.e. if you reverse in they WILL hit the adjacent car's side view mirrors. I'm always paranoid they will run into something. They've run into my garage door tracks up above and scratched up the car, etc. They are cool in theory but in practice horrible. Same with the powered front doors, latest models only open about 2 inches then they hold on tight so it feels like you're going to break them if you need to get in quick. I"m considering moving to an EV9 for this reason alone with all the dumb doors.
@@thehardyinvestorlol they break all the damn time, even in new ones. A Client traded one in after only 5 months of ownership because the falcon doors were unusable.
@@thehardyinvestorroflmao imagine buying an inferior car because you're worried about blocking a car park aisle for the 30 seconds it takes to get in your car.
And now Kia is giving the $7500 rebate themselves to get more people to buy the EV9. Plus most dealers are giving an additional rebate on top of that because no one is buying them. I got my EV9 Land with $7500 Kia rebate, $500 Kia Loyalty discount, and $7000 dealer rebate bringing a $75k MSRP car down to $65k out the door (after tax/title/doc fees). Tesla Model X can't beat that.
On the smaller frunk size of the EV9, the Hyundai/KIA engineers specifically addressed it. They said that they decided to maximize the interior space instead of creating a bigger trunk. So, the efficient utilization of the interior where the driver spends most time is prioritized in the EV9 and their other EVs.
That stupid non-folding captains chair is the reason why I didn't get a plaid... no sure why Tesla did that, they should've allowed the Plaid configuration to also be 5/6/7 seats.
The main reason why I would buy a Tesla model X over a Kia EV9 is because of the Tesla supercharger network. The Tesla supercharger network here in New York City is ubiquitous and easy to deal with. The EV9 is stuck using Electrify America or EVgo. That is unless you have your own charger at home. Beyond charging at home I don’t feel comfortable using the public charger networks and I would prefer access to Tesla supercharger network. If charging wasn’t an issue, then I would consider the EV9 definitely for a family of four. The EV9 is comfortable and it has plenty of luxury features all around including heated/cold seats for the front and the back passengers.
Wow, I've seen several videos and reviews on this SUV and I'm really liking it. It's the first electric vehicle that I've actually wanted to buy for the family. But starting at 55,000 i hope this will be sold as used vehicles in about a year.
Instead of having the cars' doors opening 90 degrees, I'd rather have an option to limit it so I don't have to worry about my kid dinging the car next to me.
Weird that the third row isn't motorized in this trim (GT-line?). Here (Norway) you can lower and raise both second and third row from buttons in the trunk. There are also buttons to control the recline of the third row, by the cup holders in the back. Doesn't really matter all that much, but it's a nice feature to have.
Thank you for this. I've been wondering about the EV9 but going to the dealership to take a look is dreadful. Bad enough I get so many spam calls a day, that's the feeling I get going to the dealership. So many good things about this car. But on/off button? How's the software support? Will the Kia boys be able to break in to this car? Even with continued issues with our Model X Plaid, I'm still happy with what we have... yes it sounds strange.
I’ve hated Kias for a few years because of their minivan, but this one definitely has some cool and nice features. Love the space and look, but the X has so much more, especially for just another $20k-$25k more. I also don’t like that the kia 7 seater is only available in the lower trims.
Come on Chris, don't believe sales agents when they say no mark ups! They will add extra warranties and/or fees one way or another... Also, I'm not sure if you are aware, but Kia/Hyundai Canada charged someone $60k for a battery replacement on the Ioniq 5, which coat 60k new. Tesla's are expensive, but I wouldn't trust dealerships with cars that are currently losing them money to sell. Maybe in their next gen models. I do agree the EV9 looks great and has a lot of useful features.
right? I find the Tesla to have a meh look, don't find them appeal that much, but the blue here does look fantastic. Right now Ionic 5, ev6, ev6 and model 3/y are the main ones on my mind, and the biggest factor is range. Also the model y's roof is fantastic too lol. Overall I think the model Y would be my choice for a well balanced car with range/charging being the main factors.
Great presentation you highlighted the benefits of both vehicles very well and while the model X is nice it just seems like the EV9 would suit our family better for road trips, especially when Kia gets NACS. Don't get me wrong, the Model X is faster, sporty, better frunk/sub trunk space, better software but 3rd row is too tight to accommodate taller passengers. Plus the EV9 is a better value for your money IF you can get it around MSRP. Loving the ocean blue color, looks sick.
Have a Plaid and just got the EV9 for Wife and kids. It’s amazing and Tesla better tighten their shit up as they won’t be dominant for very long with the innovations coming from Kia and Hyundai. Thanks for doing the video Chris and not being a fanboy exclusive to Tesla.
you are funny on frunk lol, I am an 2 week proud owner of Land EV9 and after owning 20+ good cars like 4 MDX and Q7, I am super happy and just amazed on EV9, the designer team of EV9 precisely planned and design the EV9, Ihave also drove X and Y and asked my friends who owns both X and Y and Z lol, I hated how Tesla drives it was the most aweful driving experiance, Y was super AWEFUL to drive vs EV9 its so much fun to drive you feel like driving Suburban size of vehicle, suspension is out of this world with almost no noise inside and listening to Kia's own Nature of sound is priceless and calming. I loved the Amber lights wow, I bought the LED Spectrum as well and Golden State Warrior display theme which looks so cool. did you forget one special thing EV9 has - Apple Digital Car key which is not like Tesla Bluetooth key it is NFC and boy it syncs with your Apple account and will work even the phone is out of battery, the trunk can open as soon as walk behind car and no need to put down your grocery bag. can go on and on and on, I spent 8 hours and applied Avalon ceramic coating and now it shines so much and so much hydrophobic lol. LOVE IT. the only thing I wish kia would have added is dashboard cam, it has camrea all over but no option to record or view on red light. one last thing- I have 5 dealership or service centers to go in case I need help. I nhave same color. lol
Tesla would have dominated in this segment if they released a larger SUV with a functional 3rd row. Could have easily kept cost down too by staying with normal doors.
I forgot Meridian sound system, it is not too much sound but it is so crisp and all audiophile will appriciate the sound quality and boy it has Apple car play but guess what I am loving EV9's own mapping system, I love how it shows the exit or ramp with real sign on map.
This is a pointless comparison ! Model X is a different beast and a beauty ! EV9 is a nicer soccer mom car aka Van ! There is NO Model X equivalent car out there for comparison ! Maybe EV9 vs Rivian Van would have been more appropriate comparison !
Why do car manufacturers keep making the headliner cream colored or gray? Like why not color match the whole car all black … I’ve seen this a lot lately when they reach the final year before the redesign of certain cars then they make it all black
Slightly used EV9s are an even better deal. I'm finding Wind and Land models slightly above $50k with 5k or less miles. That's a lot of car for the money.
@akis.4493 I was a little upset about it, but it is a Korean exclusive. But honestly, the craze of the tesla people with their monitoring turned me off on the idea of it. They are so obsessive. I'm fine with just having the notifications of something wrong and the 360 view.
Everyone brings up how the falcon wings make things easy… Most New England homes (and garages) are 8’ ceilings. Try getting your kid out of the car while in the garage with the motor and door there.
two things with the tesla x windshield...the tint seems too far down and i can see the reflection of the road lines in my peripheral vision and it is annoying...
Im 6’ 4” similar to you and i can say i didn’t fit a dealership in 3rd row maybe I needed to move second row up which i thought i did. I will check again a dealership. My wife palisade 3rd row is bigger it seems. Thanks for the video
34:24 my wife JUST scolded me the other day for using my middle finger to control a touch screen at a hotel we were checking into. She said I look weird 😢
How many families that can afford a $55K+ vehicle have more than 2 kids? Hopefully, this pushes Tesla towards a less expensive X or a Cybertruck conversion to Cyber full size SUV.
No. Woeful quality control, inconsistent infotainment, cheap materials, low space utilization, etc. GM's developers seem lost for a while. Or dozed off. I'm not forcing you to buy EV9. Just not to buy Lyriq.
Until these EVs can access the Tesla charging network, there is no point in buying them. Not because they are bad cars, many of them are more compelling and better built than the Tesla's. It is just because the 3rd Party charging networks are not maintained as they should be. There should never be a situation where you need to get a charge only to arrive at a charge, and it is not working properly. Also, the charging speeds need to be more consistent across the board. Tesla is the only provider of a well-maintained, consistent charging infrastructure. I am bullish that will change, but that is a big problem with EV adoption from manufacturers outside of Tesla at the moment, which is why it makes sense that they are all moving to the NACS standard.
I would think about it if it had a longer range because it is a bigger vehicle, for a contemporary family the tesla is fine and I would think it is safer, I am not interested in being able to carry more adults, because each adult has their own car.
Kia was one of the brands that tracks and reports your driving style to LexisNexis, which in turn sells it to the insurance companies. Your rates then go up or you get dropped completely.
Tesla X falcon doors seals the deal winner. Makes it so much easier loading people Especially kids in and out. Imagine park in a parking spot with a car next to you. If you have kids and drove a van with sliding doors, you would know the benefits. Only if the EV9 had sliding rear doors like a van.
The X has some cool features but for me personally the exterior design just looks too dated. It's been time for a ground up redesign of both the Model S and Model X.
I haven’t watched the video but saving it for later this morning. That Ev9 looks nice but it’s a Kia, which I despise from previous Kia ownership. It does look promising though. Also hoping for the Lucid Suv that supposedly will be out later this year.
@@EverydayChris Love the video. All your videos. You did a great job and covered more than I would have thought of. I was really impressed with what Kia has done, especially with their very first EV. Love some of the features, but going from the X to the Kia would be going backwards. Props to those that go straight to Kia for their first EV.
I'm just going to wait for the High Tech Chinese EVs at $22-33k from the likes of BYD that we will have in the US by 2027 or sooner which will easily have 300+ miles range
Chris, did you notice any head bobing in the EV9 while driving? I had it for a couple of days and I got motion/car sick every time I was driving, not passenger, driving it. I then noticed my head was going back and forward all the time. That was with cruise control but on a "MEH" road. I feel like the wheel span of the EV9 makes it "sail" the road like a ship and makes me sick.
@@EverydayChrisThanks for the quick reply. I feel like my brain is telling me buy the EV9, but my heart says buy a Model X. I've always been a Tesla fan and I work a lot with IT. I just feel like the Tesla is a better fit for me, but with three small kids and the space the EV9 would give me. Man it's hard. Also they mark up the EV9 like crazy in my country, and no Kia connect, so 80% of the software is useless :\. Doesn't even show me the estimated battery percentage on arrival because it needs Kia connect to show live traffic and without that it just doesn't show estimated battery at arrival -.-. Kia is really reaching with their subscription price at 20$ for a month. And it doesn't even work here -.-.
THAT EV9 LOOKS THE BOOM 💥 👌 FCUK THE TESLA LOOKS HORRIBLE AND I HAVE EXCELLENT EYE 👁 SIGHT ! EV9 IS SO BEAUTIFUL 😍 SAW ONE FOR THE FRIST TIME ON THE ROAD YESTERDAY ITT JUST LOOKED SO BEAUTIFUL KIA ARE SMASHING IT 👏
