Today's challenge:
Waking up early, Mark Wahlberg wakes up at 2:30am, michelle obama is at the gym at 4:30am, Tim apple wakes up 3:45, Dwayne the rock johnson wakes up at 3:30am and Elon musk doesn't sleep
But I never really believed in this, it always sounds like just changing the time when you sleep.
Why do this? Do the pros outweigh the cons?
There are lots of claims, (better sleep, peak state, love life more, more confidence), those I'm very skeptical about, but these are the most interesting:
1. productivity
2. no food, get shredded
3. it will build a routine
4. Social life, friends, family, and relationship, I have a girlfriend…

During my yoga teacher training in India, I learned about ‘Bhrama time’ aka ‘GodTime’ which is 3 am to 6 am and how it is incredibly amazing for you and transformative in many ways… but my favorite takeaway was if you study at that time , you retain way more information , and I practiced this for a long time way more than a month and I totally agree with that and the rest of the benefits… it’s such a magikal time to go for a walk outside or just being active outside in some way (if you are in nature that is) just listening … and being present… breathing and connecting;)

To be fair though waking up for work is a lot easier no matter the time, if you don’t get up you don’t get paid. Whereas if you wake up at 5am everyday with no short term gain it is much harder EDIT: You little kids are way too mad over a RU-vid comment 🤣

Early morning exercise is key for me. Allows me to listen to my thoughts. Little distractions. Brisk air. Increases heart rate for a nice adrenaline rush to wake me up since I don't drink coffee. The rest of the day feels easier.

For the next couple of weeks I will also get up around 5 since I will do a morning shift that starts at 6 am. Social life will be my biggest challenge too since I often have meetings until 10-11 pm (difficult to change when most people work until 6 pm).

Yes! I've been doing it for 3 weeks and now my body awakes on its own before 5. It feels amazing to get so much done before anyone else, I feel like I'm winning everyday.

liked and subscribed, I have been waking up before 5am tbh between 415 to 430 am for almost 5 years now but I often rest until 7 or so on my two straight days off in the middle of my work week. yes it makes for a longer day yes it seems to be somewhat healthier if you do healthy things and yes it absolutely can increase productivity but decrease social life alot. I have two kids under 10 yrs old and lead the cafe department in my hotel so for me it makes sense for work and family reasons. I do miss being out later or up later a little bit but I truly enjoy the peaceful dark quiet moments I get to myself early in the morning when it is still dark out and the world slumbers hours before my awakening.

I usually wake up at 6:15 and go to school at 6:45 and the mornings feel like im not even living. Besides the basic things like brushing my teeth theres not much you can do in 30 minutes. So i am definitely going to try this out, even though social life is a problem. With me it is even more the case, as I focus on gettimg 9 hours of sleep each night. But I find it often a lot harder to focus on studying in the evening because school is really exhausting. So mabey Ill focus the evenings for free time with my family and the mornings for school. The biggest problem is that i sometimes have school until 5 and dont get home before 6, so only two hours of freetime in the even does kinda hurt, especially because my dad works really hard and most of the time doesn't come home before 7. Anyway ill try going to bed at 8 and getting up at 5.

I confirm this. The days when I've woken up at 5am, I've felt like I've accomplished so many things by 9am. Of course, you have to be doing something not lying in bed. I would go for a walk or meditate first thing. There's something about the air around dawn that keeps you refreshed for the entire day.

@@johannes01 Your body gets used to it very quickly! And it's OK to take a nap in the afternoon - even 15 minutes with your eyes closed is greatly refreshing. But the main thing is to find your rhythm. This 5am malarkey isn't really for everyone because our bodies and needs are different. We all have our own rhythms. Some people are better with a later start, and that's totally fine.

I wake up at 4:30 to take a walk at 5 am, and I walk for an hour. Been doing it for years. I love getting up that early and walking because of how quiet everything is. Sure it's dark, but to me, it's peaceful.

It depends on your internal clock, the way your body naturally functions. I like quiet, so really late at night or the wee hours of the morning are great. I just wish my body would pick a schedule and stick with it.

I'm all about the circadian rhythm. I think it would be healthiest to wake up with the sun and start relaxing for evening when it disappears. And depending where you live and the time of year, yes those times will change. Seems like the most natural thing imo.

Born an Iowa farmer. I got up at 4 or 5am much of my life to work with Hogs before the heat of the day set in. During Harvest we worked 6am till about 9pm every day for a few weeks till done. Also plow snow in the winter so basically on call and gotta go when ever. May have to plow snow for several plus hours on very little sleep.

5 am is amateur hour. I'm up at 2:30 every morning and working out our running on alternate days by 3 am. I'm married, over 40, and have no life, so going to bed at 7:30 to make it happen is easy for me. Lol I really enjoy the peace and solitude of early morning runs while everybody else is asleep.

When I was trying to buy a house for my wife and kids I gave 12 months getting up at 4am.and going to bed at 9pm 7 days a week. I got 10 years work done in 1 year. I achieved more in that year than the entirety of the rest of my life. It really worked for me, however it's not something I could do long term, I get up now at 7am 5 mornings a week and 9am at weekend. When you're trying to achieve something it's the way to go but when there is no life changing goal one needs to enjoy life too.

My coworker lives in California, and the rest of the team is in Arkansas. We decided to start having 7:00 AM (Arkansas time) meetings everyday for like 3 months straight, so the poor guy had to get up at 4:30 AM everyday. It did not make him a new person, it just made him a very tired person.

I've been waking up at 4-5am for a few years now for literally no reason, my body just wakes me up and I can't go back to sleep. It's nice for school since I can get some more work done in the morning, but I would also prefer being able to sleep in. I hate it during winter, but waking up so early is rather enjoyable during the summer.

For me I've lived both lives. I've always woken up about 15 minutes before I need to leave for work, and I've always stayed up until I was tired and genuinely wanted to sleep. What changed was my work hours, which is now why I wake up at 4:30am. Am I a better person? Yes, definitely. Waking up without the sun is unnatural, so forcing myself to get up in the dark gave me a certain resilience that applied to all elements of my life. Did it effect my social life? Yes, definitely. I had to climb out of my friends pockets in order to maintain this new schedule, and as a result I saw all my friends in a new light. I realised that the only casualties of my social life were people that I probably didn't want around anyway, and I also saw my best friends for their best selves and it strengthened those bonds. As an average person, who isn't overly motivated for amazing routines and isn't all that disciplined, waking up early was 100% positive. For the buff dude in the video who clearly has eons of discipline I don't think it would matter if he woke up at 5am or 9am, he's clearly a master of his game regardless.

I started doing this over a month ago, I found it really helped me exercise more and eat better. But I think that is only because I am able to spend more time outside in the sunshine and not rush to work hungry without breakfast feeling stressed. I also get to spend more time with my pets and even get to read a bit

I’m a hunting guide, I wake up btwn 2-4 am from sept thru the end of November, then coyote hunting starts thru march, so I wake up b4 5 from sept-april! I don’t see many differences in waking early except I get to get my workouts done earlier in day and some cleaning done early. That’s about it

there's just something about early mornings that just makes you feel more focused, energetic, sharp memory etc.(provided you went to bed early the night before and had a good night's sleep). And I can almost swear time slows down a little at that time. Like, I do 3 hrs worth of work and look at the clock and only 1 hr has passed...sometimes even less than 1 hr......

@@wildcatroq24 None of your points prove or even state anything about the difference between a wake time of 5 vs say, 8, as an arbitratry example. A) You say that going to bed at 8 and waking up at 5 is awesome because you get a 15 hour day and you "have all the time in the world to get things done". How does waking up at 8 and going to bed at 11 change any of those things? The time you start at does not impact the fact that 24-9=15. B) who cares about your anecdotes of what time you get off work and how you are lucky enough to get off work at 2:00? How is any of that information relevant to what time you wake up? C) You state that having a routine and a schedule is motivating and helps you because you always know what to do next. ......and? What does this have to do with 5 AM? You could wake up at 1 pm and have a schedule- this point is completely irrelevant.

I wake up at 5 AM daily and I love how things start to fall in place once you take one step towards your Progress, If you wake up at 5 you will be energetic the whole day and will fall asleep by 9-10 PM. I was the one to wake up until 2-3 AM but this change in my routine worked quite well.

Not everyone is early bird and that's by design. I've been waking up for ~10 years around 6:30. What did it do to me? 1. Couldn't do anything productive by 10:00 anyway - my brain would barely wake up around that so i kinda wasted a lot of time 2. I was constantly tired 3. I had to force myself into going for a sleep early (during my most productive hours when i was actually starting to get stuff done). Finally at the last year of uni i changed my routine into actually waking up with my bio clock (around 10) and going to sleep when i was actually feeling tired (around 3:00 in the night). Suddenly, I started to be productive, started working out and had quality sleep. Not everyone is the same.

The number one thing your body needs in life is sleep but it’s also the most overlooked thing because most people don’t think that sleep matters but it dose your body needs that time to rest look at monks they are some of the best at this they can sleep while even sitting down going into meditation so deep they are putting their body in a sleep state this was also taught to some of our world war 2 guys during combat.

It's cool to see someone realistically attempt a routine like this, because life does get in the way, and you're not going to always stick to it. Anybody can manage most things for a week, but it generally tends to take more than a week to truly form a habit.

I have chronic insomnia. I would say treasure your sleep, sleep in in the mornings if you can, enjoy your social life, and sleep as much as you can because if one day you find that you can't sleep anymore, you're going to miss it. sleep restores you, it's not a bad thing.

In a muslim country such as my country Indonesia. We have to wake up around 4:00-5:00 AM depends on the season. The reason is because have to do Fajr Pray and we go to the masjid. This also make us feel good on having our day. The prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam also forbid us going back to sleep after the prayer.

I remember, when I joined the military of my country I got up at 0300 each day to reach the base just in time. For five years. But I was in my Twenties then....just like "Browney" in his clip. You´re indestructible at that age, no matter when you lay down, no matter when you get up. ;)) And no matter what they´re doing to you between getting up and laying down. Today my joints are a mess, I´m becoming 51 in November and gained 80 lb since I was a Twen. I´m working for a Security Service, mostly getting up at 4 in the morning. Which indicates that I have to go to bed about 9 or 10 in the evening. I won´t complain about it, but getting up as a civilian at 4 or 5 for exercising is for whippersnappers who are sons for a living. ;))
