In Canada you can't really collect your lottery gains anonymously. It is mandatory to take a public picture with your cheque
@edwardlopez9061
@edwardlopez9061 4 года назад
I think the smartest thing to do when you find yourself in that situation is to call or message every single person that you knew back in school and all of your distant relatives on Facebook or Instagram and ask them for money because you can’t pay rent or something like that because then you’ll find out who is real or not after you announce that you won the lottery. So that way when they come asking you for money when they find out that you won the lottery you can just easily reject them with no guilt.

TechYK As a Canadian who did live in the States for several years and married an American it is true that their is no tax on lotteries or gaming. The higher taxes you refer to includes universal healthcare so everyone is covered whether rich or poor. If you add what many Americans pay for their healthcare on top of their income tax it is pretty comparable to most States except those states who don’t have state tax. There are a few states such as NY and California who pay more

Alex Pasko I wasn’t factoring taxes. I was only converting Canadian dollars to U.S. dollars. The taxes however depend on where you bought the ticket. In the U.S. everyone has to pay the federal rate, but depending on where you’re at you may also have to pay state and even a local tax. Some states in the U.S. you only pay the federal rate. It can make a huge difference.

after he paid off his debt lets assume he has $800k left. if he invested all of that for 30 years at a 7% return he would have over $6m. if it was a 12% average return which dave uses in examples but i think is a bit unrealistic, he would have almost $24m! thats assuming he doesn't invest any of the massive $330k income he and his wife have. if he lives on 100k a year and invests 220k and the 800k lottery winnings he would have $29m from a 7% average return or 86m if he gets a 12% average return. either way, if he invests he will retire very wealthy and still have a large budget for life expenses from today onward. this dude is indeed very lucky.

To everyone saying this couple makes 1M every 3 years, it’s not true. Here in Canada they tax us like crazy, high earners get taxed half, imagine that. My husband and I make around 250-300K a year and although we live a very good lifestyle we don’t think we’re rich. Real estate is also very expensive here in the big cities, try 1M for a small detached house. Yep...

Fervent Reminder not really, unless you get really creative or do something illegal which obviously should be a no no. Even if you get very creative it won’t make a big difference. I believe anyone who makes over 250k pays over 50% in income taxes.

His question was more about staying out of debt and growing his wealth, not about how to give all of his money away ... "Advice" like this really makes me feel uncomfortable. I feel like the studio is hoping they're get a large donation from the caller as a "thank you for telling me to give my money away, I feel really good about myself now".

Most people aren't giving their money to for profit organizations as charity. They give them to nonprofits. Also, why would a guy worth 200 million be hoping for someone to give him a large donation? A $250,000 check would is only .125% of Dave's net worth.

So this couple make $330,000 a year. The wealth of the 1% in America is insane. I don't think I've ever met anyone who where you win £1,000,000 in the lottery and it means almost nothing because all you need to do is work for 3 years to match that. Fucking crazy, spread some of the luck around....
