I know it probably doesn't make financial sense, but I'd love to see more of this truck. Growing up, my dad bought an absolute beater 86 F150 while our family was going through some seriously hard times. These honest old Ford pickups who've seen some things really deserve love, not just the pretty pristine ones.

You'd better check that radiator! If you are losing trans fluid with no external leakage, the internal trans cooler in the radiator may have split. That MAY explain that nastiness you saw when you pulled the radiator cap.

As a ford Mechanic, the Oil pressure sensors in them are fake, They are pretty much just a sensor that tells you if it has oil or not, and its not even accurate if the sensor is old and dirty. Ford did that from the late 80s to around 2015, and them 2008 and newer Econoline vans, you don't need oil in the system for the gauge to even work, them vans they are just in one position all the time when they run. You can see the gauge doesn't move at all with any sort of throttle response, but does respond quite a lot with a scan tool if the tool can read oil pressure from the computer.

Good potential, with a little tlc, to make a good useable truck. I have bought, repaired, and sold vehicles for a little over 50 years. An ignition lock cylinder replacement real simple, much easier than changing steering column. Most any Ford product from 1970s to early 2000s will interchange. Rough idle due to ECM relearning idle, will improve more with driving. Congrats on your RU-vid success. Keep the shiny side up and the greasy side down.

I wouldn't worry about the distributor pickup coil until it reproduces the problem. Both the ECM and the pickup coil are much less likely to be problems on these old trucks than other issues with old wiring and sensors. I had a "no spark" condition on my 93 F150, and upon careful inspection and checking with the voltmeter, I found that the 2-wire connector that plugs into the coil had a crack on the inside, and the wire wasn't making a good connection. Replaced the connector, and it was good to go. I didn't expect the truck to run great right after the temp sensor replacement. It takes a couple drive cycles for the computer to adjust to the new numbers it's getting. So you have to drive it a couple times, as you did. I think you got a pretty good deal. Those trucks are easy to work on, and if the transmission holds up, it would be hard to replace it for under 2k. That engine can do alot more miles as long as you have good oil pressure. Thoroughly enjoyed the video!

You don't need a new steering column. Just a new lock. Get a replacement lock from 1A Auto or ebay or Amazon. Then locate the lock pin under the column (it is in a hole in the underside of the shroud next to the ignition). Take your screw driver and turn the ignition on to run. Push pin in and pull the lock out. Now because the lock part with the part the you turn is gone, you will have to shove something into the rest of the lock in order to pull it put. Once you remove the rest of the lock then you can place the new lock assembly in (Make sure the new lock is turned to the on position). Once it is in then you are good to go. Pretty much a 5 or 10 min job. You don't even need to remove the shroud to replace it. I think you should put some money into this truck. You don't see many of this era F150 in such good shape. I think you underpaid as a truck like that in the MD/VA/DC/PA is a $2500 or $3000 truck all day.

That's a pretty nice F-150, I like the color combo. I just got myself a 78 F-150 ranger for 1k.

Ignition cylinders on these trucks are VERY simple to replace and you can get an ignition cylinder for ~$20 from O’Reilly or Autozone I believe. Definitely worth replacing. I’d really like to see more on this truck!

It’s like my truck. Except I got a rust free gem in the rust belt that I rebuilt after it was wrecked with good mileage and the thing has the functioning dual fuel tanks
